One of those weekend programs looks good to me. None in Alamo town per se but bunch in Fredrichsburg which isn't far away.

Now, anybody know where I can get .308 ammo cheap for practicing with? Looks like anybody taking the course will need around 500 rounds. Don't want to spend a lot on ammo to be thrown at paper targets. Ammo for game or varmints (irrespective of how many legs they walk on) is another thing. Only the best for them.

Bad Cyborg - You can shoot an Appleseed weekend with a .22 semi-auto with no problems. I instruct at Appleseeds, and most of our students out here bring a Ruger 10/22, which we recommend. I shot my first two Rifleman scores with a 10/22. We hold classes at a few places where the longest range is 25 meters. All the skills transfer over to centerfire just fine.

Can't say enough about Appleseed, and the history lessons are just as important as the rifle skills. Every Irregular should stick with it long enough to shoot "Rifleman" which is an expert score on the old Army Qualification Test. And, every Irregular should give serious thought to becoming an Appleseed instructor.

I know I could but I'm getting ready to buy an FNAR for defensive purposes (hence the X% in my sig) and I want to get at least decent with THAT weapon. I already know the rudiments of shooting. Qualified Marksman at Camp Upshire, Quantico with an M14 in 71 and at Bergstrom AFB in 83. I want to get instruction with what will be my primary distance weapon.

Any ideas where/how to get inexpensive ammo for target practice?
