And, by the looks of things, largely has succeeded.

Not that it matters. The people they are pacifying with their delusions of government benevolence are all going to die anyway without really affecting events one way or another.

I've wondered the same myself. Talk about blind hogs and acorns!

If this were a novel - or movie, wait for it - most of the sub plots would be edited out as too complex for the average reader/viewer/'murican to comprehend. For example, the FBI had the obvious agents provocateur "who were not charged and will not be named" as cover for Ryan Payne, et al, the real informants. Also noted is the astroturf campaign to ridicule the ranchers in every news story and blog post. Tweet, tweet!

The article reinforces for its audience that anyone unhappy with our present government is an extremist. Many people are completely happy with the government the Founders left us, the problem resting with official incumbents. Interesting is how the left repeatedly tries to portray is opponents as extremist militants.
