Oops. McCain seeks DOD explanation on salvage yard bomb.

The worker killed when military ordnance exploded at a south-side scrap yard has been identified. Tucson police said Daniel Wright, 46, was killed Wednesday when he cut into a metal object that turned out to be a military bomb, Tucson police said. Police also identified the ordnance as an MK-82 general purpose bomb. Detectives are investigating how it ended up at the scrap yard.

"found his body?" probably more like body fragments. Isn't that our biggest common use pieces of ordinance?

No. Mk82 is a standard 500 lb model. Biggest in that category is the mk84; 2,000lbs

EOD here. Let me throw my 2 cents in. First off John McCain is an idiot if he doesn't know how this 500 lbs GP bomb made it into the scrap yard. Almost all impact areas have a problem with scrappers. Normally a group of meth fueled extreme white trash, they will enter impact areas, normally on Sundays during base mandated quite hours and gather all the metal they can find, completely ignoring the signs posted telling them of the danger. The scrap yards know about these people and are supposed to call the police when they bring in anything that looks military. Many of the GP bombs on the impact areas are concrete filled inert training bombs. The guy cutting into the bomb casing knew where it came from and knew he was not supposed to be doing what he was doing and the result was 190 lbs of H6 pushing 310 lbs of steel to create a Darwinian situation in which the problem took care of itself. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
