Following Obama's first election in 2008, Dick's did not offer rainchecks when they did not have 9mm ammunition in stock that they advertised at a competitive price in their weekly advertizing circular inserted in the Sunday newspaper. They claimed that conditions were "beyond their control". However, they continued to run a similar ad for several weeks, so the printer's advanced pre-printing cycle could not be blamed.
Incompetence or deception? Wrong business practices either way. Back up what you offer and keep your customers happy, or close down.
As a result of my experience with Dick's, I did not bother with Dick's for anything in their Thanksgiving circular, especially anything that needed to be backordered with them. They are not honorable merchants.

This strikes me as a situation in which some attorney could make a nice fee off a class action suit.

Hopefully Troy's can/will find a similar partnership with Cabela's.
