The only time you have too many mags or too much ammo is if you are trying to swim with them.

Personally? The bare minimum for me is three times the standard loadout for that particular weapon...one to carry, one spare, and one because.

Common magazines (AR, PTR, Glock 17 and 21, 10/22) I buy whenever I find a good deal. I have cans of loaded AR and PTR mags.

As many as you can afford.

That also goes for containers of fresh water, and cans of food, both cans of food that you can buy at your local grocery store, or #10 cans that you can buy from other places that have a shelf-life of 20 years.

For any particular weapon, I need only one magazine. It contains infinitely many rounds.

But until I get 'em I will have to make do with as many of those low capacity 40, 30, and 20 round mags as I can get my hands on.
