Dennis Henigan's citizen disarmament wagon breaks down at "Terror Gap."

Dennis Henigan, pseudo-intellectual apologist for, and solicitor of, tyranny and civil war. Seen in the light of Bill Clinton's 1999 Serbian Rules of Engagement, he is either a very brave man or a very clueless one.

Dennis A. Henigan

Dennis A. Henigan is the Vice President for Law and Policy at the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence and Director of its Legal Action Project. For nineteen years, he has been a leading advocate for stronger gun laws, appearing dozens of times on national television and radio shows, including 60 Minutes, The Today Show, Nightline, Larry King Live and Dateline NBC. He also has written and spoken extensively on liability and constitutional issues relating to gun laws and gun violence, including testifying before several Congressional Committees. Henigan’s writings on the Second Amendment include two influential law review articles that have been cited by federal courts in upholding gun laws against constitutional attack.

Mr. Henigan leads a team of lawyers at the Brady Center that provides pro bono legal representation to victims of gun violence in lawsuits challenging irresponsible practices by gun sellers and manufacturers, as well as appearing in over two dozen cases as “friend of the court” defending gun laws under attack in the courts. Under his direction, Brady Center lawyers have recovered millions of dollars in damages for gun violence victims, as well as winning precedent-setting decisions on the liability of gun sellers in New Mexico, Ohio, New Jersey, Indiana and other states. In addition to assisting individual victims, Brady Center lawyers have represented over two dozen urban municipalities, including Washington D.C. and New York City, in lawsuits seeking to recover the public costs of gun violence. Mr. Henigan’s achievements were recognized by Lawyers’ Weekly magazine, which named him one of the ten “Lawyers of the Year” for 2004. His work as a public interest lawyer also has been profiled in The New Yorker.

Mr. Henigan received his B.A. from Oberlin College in 1973 and his law degree in 1977 from the University of Virginia School of Law. Prior to joining the Brady Center in 1989, he was a partner in the law firm of Foley & Lardner.

The gun-grabbers have invented a new term to stampede the clueless. It is "Terror Gap." Like "gun violence," "assault weapon," and "gunshow loophole," "terror gap" is a propagandist's tool designed to overcome logic with a bald-faced lie wrapped in a label.

Here's the thing you're not comprehending, Dennis. We've read the bill. The prospect of the Federal government having the ability to designate anyone -- ANYONE -- a "terrorist threat," without the ability to challenge it, without even the ability of a federal judge to reverse it, is simply Star Chamber tyranny.

It is constitutionally void.

It is treasonous to the Founders' Republic.

Its enforcement would be a casus belli.

So pass your tyrannical bill into law and watch what happens.

Just don't think that such an event is without personal unintended consequences. Ask Bill Clinton if you don't believe me.

NOVI SAD, Yugoslavia (Reuters) - A photographer walks through the rubble of the Serbian TV building destroyed in last night's NATO air raids in the northern Serbian town of Novi Sad Tuesday. U.S. President Clinton hinted at a possible pause in NATO's six-week-old bombing campaign, but there was no indication of a breakthrough emerging from the latest flurry of diplomatic peace-making over Kosovo. What nobody seems to want to talk about in an alleged "terror gap" is the obvious issue, i.e., thought control. You can not issue an edict barring someone the capability to purchase a firearm because of something they might do, or for something they have not done. To do so is to claim clairvoyance, and the ability to "mind read." No such animal, to my knowledge, and in any case an unconstitutional act.

Falls under the "common sense gun control" function that Henigan always talks about. Why is it always a common sense issue when it comes to gun control? Why isn't it a common sense issue when it comes to employing laws already on the books to curb crime? So far as I can determine, nothing said by Henigan makes much sense at all.

Reading Henigan's profile causes amazement that one can be so honored for such consistent failure.

I'll go with the "clueless" assessment over "brave." Seems to be enough evidence to support that choice.

Keep this man's bio and all that it entails (namely, other people thinking he is reasonable), and the fact this book was written by a tenured chair of a university department and attempt to not laugh out loud next time you see or hear anyone saying that even center-left criticism of the direction America is going in is "hard right wing fascist, racist, violent rhetoric."

Funny thing about human rights: you can't defend them for yourself without also defending them for everyone, including potential "bad guys." It's like free speech: people with opposing or inflammatory opinions have a right to speak, too.

Same for gun rights: just because you don't like or trust someone, doesn't mean that they don't have a right to self-defense, which includes having a right to own a gun.

The only viable long-term solution to gun violence is not restrictions, but deterrence in the form of increased ownership and visibility.

Oh, and to Mr Henigan's argument regarding "logical fallacies": all of his arguments depend on simply ignoring human rights and the Constitution / 2AM. The government has **no right** to make laws that go against the Constitution, according to multiple rulings by the Supreme Court; any such attempts are automatically null-and-void. How's that for logic?

All gun control is based on the fallacious concept of prior restraint. The Brady folk believe that banning any firearms at all is always a good thing because one of the banned guns might be used in a crime or be a part of an accident. They completely ignore the beneficial aspects of an armed public while simultaneously denying the truth that someone with evil intent will always figure out a way to be armed. Just look at the mess in Great Britain for proof positive.

Start with George Soros. Then look to the Tides Foundation and similar groups.

Check out opensecrets.org, too. They help follow a lot of money
