Crisis in Connecticut, confrontation looming?

A Connecticut gun rights advocacy group, whose president was on Tom Gresham’s nationally-syndicated Gun Talk radio show Sunday, threw down the gauntlet this morning with a press release challenging state lawmakers to either enforce the state’s strict new gun laws or “completely repeal these immoral edicts” by May 7.

A JOINT OPEN LETTER to the "Three Percenters" of Connecticut and The Connecticut State Governing Body and Connecticut State Law Enforcement Officials:

Greetings,

My name is Jeffrey Betterini. I live with my wife in Epping, New Hampshire, but was born and raised in New Britain, Connecticut. I have been a life-long New England resident. I am a man who was raised in Christian values, tempered with the most firm belief in our National "Colonial" heritage.

Connecticut has grievously endured malignant tragedy with the Sandy Hook massacre. The lives lost, both young and adult were inexplicably taken by an act of inhuman madness. The pain and anguish it caused resonated throughout our country and the world as a whole. In response, the Connecticut legislature understandably set to the task of seeking protectionism. They crafted a bill that, once signed into law on it's ideals is understandable, considering the tragic nature of Sandy Hook. But in reality, this legislation is at best questionable as to if the law has standing and is truly enforceable. The answer is as yet undetermined by adjudication through the judicial process.

As time has progressed and events have unfolded, we as a nation have been witness to a "State Wide" escalation of this issue. People intending to bring their personal, private lives into "compliance" with what is profoundly viewed as an "unconstitutional" edict were issued "official" letters dated January 2nd, 2014 advising the recipient to destroy, dismantle or surrender their property. A recorded discussion with a high-ranking State Police official proved callous and alarming.

There does exist an air of calamitous upset which continues to escalate among otherwise ordinary, law abiding citizens. Persons who value the fact that our founding forefathers dissented from a life devoid of unbiased redress of grievances. They rightfully held contempt for government usurpations of private property and inalienable personal freedom. These values are alive today and are conspicuously recognized by our armed forces and private citizenry alike. They live strongly in the hearts and souls of people who have no further tolerance for governmental encroachment of any kind.

So to both sides of this issue, before rhetoric escalates once more to malignant tragedy, before tempers flare over to shows of force and before blood is let from any one person that will immediately spark an unstoppable "Civil war" I urge you, I beseech you in an unreserved and completely candid manner to do the following:

1) FORBEAR IMMEDIATELY on both sides ALL forms of rhetoric. Wait and go NO FURTHER with any actions until the judicial process is completed and there is a CLEARLY DEFINED answer from the United States Supreme Court as to the constitutional agreement, yea or nay.

2) STAY YOUR ARMS- Not "lay them down", mind you. I am asking that for now, each side of the issue remain vigilant, but neither side take ANY action NOR incite the other to action, be it overt or otherwise.

I am a citizen of New Hampshire. But I AM a "Connecticut Yankee". My heart is deeply rooted with the fire of Liberty that was purchased with the blood of the founding fathers of our nation. It is NOT my desire to see blood shed on a Civil field of battle in this country. But if need be and it be warranted by governmental foul misdeed, I will stand with my brethren.

Yes, that is fine and good until you realize that the judiciary is bought and paid for and will at their whim refuse to hear the case or will rule in favor of the bans. Like NY just did. Then the "Supremes" refuse to hear the case like they just did on three other gun related cases. No, the judiciary will not save us.

I also believe the game is rigged and we are past the tipping point. Sadly, conflict is inevitable. Lord help us all. Once it starts, noone will be able to control it.

As others have noted, our government is divided into three parts: Executive, Legislative and Judicial. But they are all part of the same government and I believe it would be foolish to expect one part to massively and effectively limit any other part. That would be tanatamount to one arm "choosing" to kill the body that supports it.

We must also remember that one point brought out in the Nuremburg war crimes trials was that each defendant was ultimately responsible for deciding whether or not the laws that allowed genocide were legally binding. By that yardstick, each and every one of us must decide which laws to obey. Of course, we must also pay the penalty for wrong decisions. Also, we must remember that had the Nazis won the war, the rules would have been considerably different. So, while each of us can choose which laws to obey or disregard we must keep in mind that however right we may feel our cause to be, we could lose "the war" and end up hanging from a gallows.
