Has the Dept. of Homeland Security become America’s standing army?

It’s not difficult to see why the DHS has been described as a “wasteful, growing, fear-mongering beast.” If it is a beast, however, it is a beast that is accelerating our nation’s transformation into a police state through its establishment of a standing army, a.k.a. national police force.

I've said it for years...DHS, along with many other alphabet agencies and many police and sheriff's departments, with their military tactics and equipment, are a de facto violation of the Posse Comitatus Act.
If anyone believes that they are not gearing up for a war against American Citizens, they are naive at best...criminally stupid at worst.

Looks like we'll have to teach them the same lesson we taught the English, the Mexicans, the Germans and the Japanese. Don't fuck with Americans.

Wasn't there another "National Police Force" in another country and another time? Wasn't it called something like "Gestapo"?

For anyone who thinks all this stuff happened since 9/11..I've got some news for you. Read this report on the CIA's predecessor, the OSS, and then you'll see what has REALLY happened. In effect, Jim Garrison is totally correct. The CIA/DOD IS the government now. Note the section on a proposed American Gestapo. This was ...1943. You won't believe what this report says.

Given the way DHS has been arming, they may see themselves as America's standing army, but the moment they turn arms on Americans I'll see them threefold: traitors, terrorists, and targets.
Kings no longer lead the battle, they push pawns for the dirty work. Reckon how many pawns they'll lose before the rest wake up and tuck tail?

Why on earth not?

@Jimmy,

You mean the folks we've been able to kill wholesale in exchange for comparatively negligible losses?

VN, we had ~58k KIA. Estimated VC and NVA casualties are several times that, around 1.1 million all told (KIA and MIA). And in 1968, the Tet Offensive gutted the Viet Cong, basically finishing them as a viable force. In 1972, the NVA advance was held to a standstill by remaining US forces and US-supplied ARVN, and the Christmas bombings forced the North to the Paris negotiation tables.

Somalia, 1993. A 30-some hour firefight resulted in 19 American KIA...and estimates of anywhere from 1000 to 6000 Somali KIA, depending on who counts as a combatant. And TF RANGER not only captured the people they wanted, but several other high-level targets besides.

Afghanistan? We've been there for ~12.5 years, and there have been approximately 2300 US KIA. There are literally no reliable estimates of the sheer number of Taliban, insurgent, and other enemy KIA. We utterly toppled the Taliban as a credible force and pushed major Al Qaeda operations out of the country.
In fact, I'm always amused by the whole "Afghanis fight with bare minimum gear, just a rifle, some ammo, and a water bottle!" schtick. You know where that comes from? Dead insurgent bodies recovered after contacts, meaning that minimalist equipment wasn't helping.

So, perhaps those peoples should join the litany of folks who know better than to mess with the US. Because we'll come in and kill 20:1, 50:1, or better, and render the opponent unable to win until after we leave.

Now, if you were talking about US politicians and their fecklessness....then I'd be a lot more inclined to agree. They seem to have a habit of pulling out after a while and opening the door for the enemy to claim victory from the jaws of defeat. See the Dem-run Congress's abandonment of South Vietnam (despite treaty obligation) in 1975, Clinton's withdrawal from Somalia even after smashing Aidid's militia, and Obama's running scared from Afghanistan and Iraq.

Let's not forget who created DHS - that fine example of a conservative, George W. Bush. And how many other conservatives applauded him for doing it?

I hope people have learned their lesson...
