In another way, also useful, when not fired... Think SS or other thugs walking routinely with loaded weapons in your area of business or pleasure. These guns, though holstered, send a message of who is in control, especially if the individual or his/her organization assumes a tone of belligerency or irrationality, or, as common, both.
NO! Simple possession DOES NOT equate to USE! I agree there is benefit to a holstered firearm but it is NOT because it's being used. The POSSIBILITY of use is providing the benefit.
Folks, Illinois equates possession and use - and used that equation to criminalize possession. It deems SIMPLE POSSESSION as a UNLAWFUL USE. And that abuse alone is enough to abandon the notion that possession itself is a use.
She's getting a lot of comments from us gun nuts, and they belie her image of such folks as maniacs and thugs. I wonder if she will learn anything from the experience.
Mostly I don't care any more, even if I left my own comment. Let the Jackals yap.
I have "used" a firearm twice in my 44 years to defend myself or a loved one, and not even once have I had to pull the trigger. Both times, just drawing the firearm prevented further action by the criminal - once from a person who broke into my house (I was only 10 years old), and the second when confronted in the middle of an interstate by a drunk driver that was out of his vehicle, stopping traffic, and threatening people with a tire iron. He walked up to my pregnant wife's passenger window and prepared to smash it, until I pointed my 9mm Makarov at him, he quietly, and quickly left the scene. Yes, both incidents were reported to local or state police. The drink driver was arrested, the house-invader was never caught.
Think of your words before you type. I am not a gun nut. I am an American...period. Anti-Gun Nut...OK... Gun Nut... NOT... Don't fall victim to using the labels others put on us. It degrades our overall platform and is exactly what they want. Say it enough and even you will start saying it...Also known as Double Speak.

The whole point of having a weapon of any kind, it the threat of violence. If you need to actually use the weapon, the weapon has failed.
When you are legally 'packing heat', you no longer walk around looking afraid.
