So, if the needs of the state are so important, why doesn't Louisiana just tattoo everybody with the mark of the beast?

Law Bans Cash for Second Hand Transactions

Freedom stealing anal sphincters. I'm going to go to Louisiana sometime in the near future and break this damn abomination of law. How did it possibly slip through under the radar?

When paper is no longer 'legal tender', then silver and gold will see widespread adoption.

This didn't slip in under the radar. And it is not limited to LA either. Heck, here in central Illinois, you are now having to give a copy of your driver license to recycle copper. Oh and for a goo while now, you cannot pay cash at the DMV for taxes charged resulting from the purchase and registration of a automobile. Yup, the government, specifically revenue, won't even take "legal tender".

Watch as TSA and their random searches, on the highways of this country and in the vehicles belonging to Citizens, stories come popping about.

They don't care 'bou no steeeenking Fourth Amendment. They claim what they are doing is "Reasonable" and that facilitates our due process.

I certainly hope folks are preparing, for this path the nation's so called government is on only leads to one place......

sofa, lead and copper will be more in demand than gold and silver.........

Actually, the Louisiana law is a poorly written version of several state's laws that are intended to foil copper and metal thieves.

By requiring check/credit card credit/wire transfer payment for scrap metal sales with a paper trail, thieves who do thousands of dollars in damage to steal a couple of pounds of copper have a trail. As do the gold ring thieves, and other scum.

Mississippi has a similar law, passed after someone cut the copper lines on a cold storage warehouse. $15,000 in damage for three pounds of copper tubing.

I am sure the Pelican State Legislature will fix their idiocy. There is no point in killing cash sales for antiques.

Meantime, it does give us something to discuss. And an IQ check and literacy marker for the interns who write our laws.

Another "Malum Prohibitum" with "good intentions".
And we all know what the road to Hell is paved with....

Funny.... The Federal Reserve Notes in my pocket bear the words "THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE" (original in all caps). Is this going to be another states rights issue?

Don't know how it wasn't caught. From what I've read, the vote for this travesty was almost unanimous and was signed by Gov. Jindal. Of course it's marketed to fight crime and all sorts of rubbish.

I can't imagine this passing judicial muster.

Our state requires ID for any "scrap" transactions. I could even see them requiring dealers keep records of any purchases they make for resale -- all those could pass muster.

But "NO cash transactions" including -- according to your link -- yard sales, goodwill stores, etc?

N-F-W.

This is so absurd that it proves the pols in LA are nothing more than brain-dead zombies. They have outlawed MONEY! U.S. money! If I was selling anything 2nd hand, I'd never accept a check - cash only, please! And who's going to go to the bank on a Sunday to get a cashier's check? "Ah'll give ya ten bucks for that there alligator head!" "Nope! Sorry, but ah kin only accept checks or a promissory note!"

This is a law that needs to be broken openly by everyone in the state - simply refuse to obey it, and let the state know that's what you're doing.

Hmmmm Has Louisiana succeeded from the union - again ? Our currency has plainly stated upon it " for all debts public and private".

Seems like yet another example of what extreme mischief can be inflicted upon the "payers" by the "payees", when they're unwatched ! >MW

ashrak- yup. Brass, Lead, copper, eggs, a warm jaclet, vegetables, milk, checkens, silver, gold, a goat. All traditional methods of payment.

SO LA just needs to issue their own paper money to be used for secondhand transactions and all this will be fixed.
