"Fighting terrorism" in the Volunteer State? Pardon me while I spit.

This clip was sent to me by my son as well as others, all of whom want to know who the guy in the ACU's is standing in the background at 45 seconds into the story. Are we looking at one more violation of posse comitatus?

"Tennessee Becomes First State To Fight Terrorism Statewide."

"Tuesday's statewide "VIPR" operation isn't in response to any particular threat, according to officials. Armes said intelligence indicates law enforcement should focus on the highways as well as the airports."

And where's the ACLU to protest this and actually do something useful for a change?

It was outrageous that the SCOTUS ruled that TSA searches weren't in violation of the 4th Amendment. I would've been much happier if they said that the searches *were* violating the 4th, but due to extenuating circumstances (e.g. terrorist threat) or whatever, they were temporarily ok or something to that effect. And during that whole debacle, the ACLU was nowhere to be found - probably too busy protecting NAMBLA's right to free speech.

Meaning absolutely no defense of this, you all do know about the recurring declaration of a state of emergency that Bush jr. implemented and Obummer has (*shock!*) continued to renew that allows the TSA and other feral agencies wide latitude.

Ja... so welcome to the police state. I wonder if any of those agents had the gall to say, "Good morning sir - papers please."

I'd like to point out two things, though, that have some sense behind them. First, this is actually a needed activity. Second, it is needed because we can't secure our borders worth two rat butt bombs.

I think it's about time a stray projectile or two, with a velocity of around 2000 fps or so, went through those VIPR vans. To break the equipment, of course .

I am embarrassed and ashamed of my state for participating in this nonsense.
To say nothing of the total humiliation the Volunteers will face in Tuscaloosa tomorrow...
It's sad that we care more about football than freedom.

This is all just sheer desperation. The dark powers are losing thier grip and they know it.

What? It sounds like you don't support Law Imposement! Why, terrorists could be anywhere! You never know what "these people" are up to! If you find it inconvenient that Law Imposement needs to stand on your neck for just a little while so they can check out a threat, well that's just too bad!

I, for one, feel better knowing that those fine Law Imposement Officers can stop anyone at any time on a whim to protect the public! They're working to protect you from the Boogie Man... Uh, I mean Osama... Uh, I mean, from the nebulous non-specific threat posed by a free society!

If you see something, Snitch! Then lay down and comply until they process you... Uh, I mean, work through their processes.

A helpful hint: as you grovel, expose your belly and whimper. That seems to help in these situations.

Be proud that you live in the Land of the Free!

yeah, the guy in the background at :45 seconds in is obviously just a member of that "army of agents on wheels"....and the people are so dumbed down that they do not even know it is antithetical to our system of governance.

The last few times I have visited NYC with friends or family, I have noted numerous military personnel carrying carbines at the Port of Authority Bus Terminal and Grand Central Train Station. No one even notices them!

We are looking more and more like a banana republic every day.

Seriously???

How can any person see this as a "reasonable" exercise of state power? If anybody wonder's what oppression looks like, this is well on the way down the slipper slope!!

It has apparently been held for some years that the threshold for violating Posse Comitatus is rather low:

I know it is old news. I only post the link in case anyone missed it.

I have seen this in North Dakota with both state and federal boys all armed up. Its for safety inspections. I drive a bee truck so I like to linger when it is hot!! While they wave franticly to get me out of there.

Ah, there it is right at the end of the report. The good ol' "what if they'd stopped x before it happened" line and cite McVeigh/OklahomaCity.

If he's Tennessee National Guard, he's likely exempt. Or even if he's US Army, if there is a request for assistance to the TSA, he's probably also safe.

Still doesn't decrease the overall ridiculousity of it all.

I thought Posse Comitatus Act had been repealed in 2006 (it had), but also found out it was re-instated (yay!) in 2008 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posse_Comitatus_Act)

Clearly he was Tenn. National Guard.

Didn't Obumble make a comment about needing a national police force when he was running for precedent? Well there ya go. He's got it now.

1.In addition to the shot at 0:45 in there is also a short section at around 1:46 in where the military uniformed man walks from center to left of field alongside a truck while someone says "all clear".
If he is only an observer, he is observing real closely and actively.

2. So, when does an equipment and manifest inspection become a "search"?

3. If a driver had actual criminal intent, wouldn't he just play along and "Yes" them to death in response to their request for cooperation and assistance in preventing terrorism?

I'm not supporting what was done but...

The reason why they chose truck drivers and weigh stations is that as a commercial driver, non of your rights as an American apply to you. You waive all of your rights when you have a CDL and step into a commercial vehicle. You can be stopped without probable cause. You are guilty because they have allowed you the privilege of earning a living as a truck driver. You can have all your person possessions rifled through just to see if they can find something. And you have to have a record of your whereabouts for the last seven days, that you are required to fill out, and if there be ANY error, whether on accident or purposed, you incriminate yourself.

They are doing this because they legally can. I don't agree. It is just to acclimate us. But it's really no different than what's been going on for years.

This "see something, say something" has been going on for a while. They've been promoting for years to have truckers believe that a terrorist is everywhere. And to roam around tattling on everyone.

Lets see how willing folks are to accept Marshal Law in everything but name.
2012 is coming on fast and furious. obama is not about to allow something as insignificant as a Constitutional election get in the way of his hope and change.

I always believed without a doubt Marshal Law is a strategy the usurper in the white house has considered a prime instrument for imposing open full on tyranny on our Constitutional Republic. It is a loophole in the Constitution that enables a president to rescind the checks and balances, (as they exist now),of republican form of government.
It really is a beautiful option for a dictator in waiting. A perfect tool to get rid of that pesky Constitution.

I'm betting before November 9, 2012 arrives, we are in full lock down under a full blown police state.
Drone programs by the dozen, 1 day "test" shut down of all communications nation wide, TSA invading the roads, talk of cancelling elections so the ruling class can complete the destruction of America without those pesky Hobbits mucking things up, a full on cadre of US Army operatives operating on US soil.
Mmmm, if it looks like Marshal Law, if it smells like Marshal Law, if it sounds like Marshal Law, if it acts like Marshal Law well by golly, it must be Marshal Law!
