Controversy points to value of NRA director transparency, gun owner involvement

Agree or disagree with Webb’s opinions, support or reject his speculative candidacy if and when he makes it official, gun owners would be better served if all NRA Directors were so open about where they stand, and importantly, so accessible to receiving communications and so committed to providing feedback. That is, assuming they’re interested in learning such information and engaged enough to actually do something constructive with it.

Love or hate the NRA, one has to admit the NRA board does have the appearance of a wine & cheese society for the wealthy and influential.

I would not vote for this fellow for the NRA board, due to several philosophical differences. What is interesting is that he does put his views out in the open, so people can see if they agree with him or not. All prospective board members should do this as a matter of course. It is not like we have a chance to know them personally.

I just sense a vague uneasiness about his apparently European-influenced view on firearms ownership; ie, okay for the specially trained, the operators, etc., but not for the average individual. Just seems to elitist to me.

The simple fact of the matter is that many of the nominees for NRA Director don't even bother to mention The Second Amendment in their biographical statement. That's because it's just not on their list of priorities, or of the members who's votes they're trying to attract. As I have pointed out here and on David's blog back when Examiner allowed such things, the NRA is not, has never been, and probably never will be a Second Amendment focused organization. That's just the way it is, not because I like it, or because Wayne LaPierre likes it, but because the majority of the 5 million members don't bother to make it one.

Makes a grown man almost cry when you figure what a few 3%'ers could do to make the NRA into a real 2A organization, but I guess there's no more interest in that than there is interest in 2A in the NRA.

Kinda sad when you think about it.

Reminds me of Country Joe at Woodstock: "I don't know how you ever expect to stop a war if you can't sing any louder than that!"

But just for a moment close your eyes and imagine the NRA Board gathering around the dais and in strides none other than David Codrea toting his "significant award"! ;-)

The NRA was "chosen" by our domestic enemy as their negotiator because they were already infiltrated and partially compromised. We should disband the NRA and all of its wastefulness and go forward with a real representative chosen by Americans.. I am sure they don't speak for me, you will have to make your own judgement.
