How come this never happens to me? The last line of the story is hysterically funny.

"Gun found in Publix."
LEE COUNTY, GA -- An employee at the Lee County Publix found a .40-caliber handgun with 12 rounds inside on a sink in the men’s bathroom.
The employee notified store management who called the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. At this time it’s not known who left the gun, but authorities are running the serial number through the ATF data base to see if they can figure out how the gun got there.
No one was injured by the weapon.
Why doesn't this ever happen to me? I mean, people dump machine guns in creeks in Alabama, but never in one I'm looking at. Even ATF agents like Jody Keeku leave their duty weapons in airport bathrooms, and the sheep who find them just turn them over. And that last line. "No one was injured by the weapon." What?!? It didn't jump up and shoot somebody all on its own? How could that be? I thought they were intrinsically evil?

Mike,

You, me, and a host of others would have safed the weapon, tucked it away, and left the bathroom singing "Happy Birthday to Me!".

Which suggests that this happens a lot more than what is reported.

From now on, I'm hitting the head whether I need to or not every time I go to my local Publix. Keep your 'buy one get one' coupons, I'll take a free Glock, thanks!

:)

What kind of machine guns were found in a stream in Alabama?
Where was that stream in Bama? I may have to go down there and walk around a bit.
Just joking.

But really where was that stream?

Hefferman: Bibb County once and Lawrence County once. All within the past couple of years, if memory serves.

They have some magic data base that tells them about everyone's dumbassery? Does the news writer at WXFL really believe his own nonsense?

Only way the story could be more absurd was to say it was a 40mm Go-Lock.

Every time I read a story like this, all I can envision are the monkey-men from 2001 fearfully touching the Monolith.

I got 5 bucks says that it belongs to one of those government employed "professionals" that are the "only ones" who should carry them.

Yeah this is like the posters on certain BBS who find various and sundry MGs in the attics of deceased WW2 and Vietnam vets, and then publish pictures of them and ask; "What do we do with these guns?".

God, why can't I be so fortunate?

WAITAMINIT! I thought the feds weren't keeping the 4473 data any longer than it took to perform the background check.

Just like I always thought. When dealing with the ATF, it's a lot like watching the old Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons...

BW: "Hey Rocky! Watch me pull a rabbit outa my hat!"

RJS: "Oh, Bullwinkle, that trick never works..."

BW: "Nuthin' up my sleeve! PRESTO!"

You wouldn't EVER catch me taking that bet!!!! Those damn fools would wander off without their wiener if it wasn't attached!

I would say, "Cool, free gun!" and move along.

No reason to bother our LEO community to investigate a bathroom.

I would have kept it.

I left my own gun in my own bathroom once in the early days. Scared the crap out of me! Never happened again. :)

Sure would love to find one, however. Not apt to happen in my town. LOL

According to author Brad Meltzer, the suspended ceilings of fast food restaurants "in da hood" often have hidden handguns there-the local youths can't take them to school (metal detectors), and there are still mammas that will beat that behind if they found out that their little darling had a gun in their room.

Obviously, some of these could make fantastic "throw down" pieces...

Well...That's at least one 'gun' that the B to the A to the TFE hasn't managed to smuggled to the Zetas...Yet.
