Oh, great. Why don't we just save the red tape and divvy 'em up now? Half to the Iranians and half to ISIS.

In December 2014, the State Department approved a sale of 175 Abrams tanks to Iraq in a deal that could be worth $2.4 billion.

Roll back your memory for a moment to Operation Frequent Wind of April 29 - 30, 1975. Remember the images of UH-1B's being pushed off carrier decks and/or being ditched in the South China Sea?

What you might not know is that U S Army resources had been allocated over the previous year to restoring all of those Huey's to like new condition at U S taxpayer expense before being "Vietnamized" into the South Vietnamese Air Force inventory.

I guarantee you that any tank turned over to Iraq will not be a stressed out combat beater but will be an Abrams refurbed to like new condition at our expense. Count on it!

Mark Twain said that history doesn't repeat itself, but it does sometimes rhyme.

ONLY if we put remote kill/self destruct modules in them, bu then the pissants wouldn't want 'em.

Why bother to divvy 'em up in the first place? ISIS'll probably wind up with the lot of 'em soon or late.

DAMN! I wish I had some o' what whoever came up with that plan was tokin' at the time. Musta been PRIMO shit!

ISIS has already gotten most of the Abrams tanks we've already given to the Iraqi military. It seems the Iraqi tankers we supposedly spent a decade "training" bail out and haul ass trailing little streams of urine as soon as the shooting starts or in some instances even before a shot is fired--to the great surprise of absolutely no one who paid attention to their battlefield performance in 2003 or 1991, or observed the manner in which Arab armies generally behave on the battlefield from 1947 right down to the present day.

Meanwhile, the US military is quietly dumping thousands of M48A5 tanks that were refurbished at great expense in the 1970s and 1980s into the ocean, to serve as "artificial reefs," to appease environmentalist wackos. We might as well have given them to the Iraqis instead of M1A2s--and as an added bonus the Russians, Iranians, and Chinese wouldn't be able to examine the intact tanks our "brave allies" abandon on the battlefield.

The US, with rare exceptions, chooses the worst possible allies--the French in both world wars come to mind, Chiang Kai-Shek, the South Koreans in 1949, the South Vietnamese in 1965. With the exception of Israel everyone else has been worthless dead weight, worthless cowardly turds who flee or surrender before the shooting starts. And now we see that once again we've put our money on the wrong horse. Hey, you assholes in Washington--can't any of you people play this goddamn game?
