"What they eat for breakfast." -- Washington D.C.'s "Top Fifty Party Animals."

Michael Collins

Michael Collins: How long has that man been there?
IRA local man: As long as we have. Half an hour or so.
Michael Collins: How'd they know we were coming?
IRA local man: They know what we ate for breakfast.
Michael Collins: There's only one way to beat them, then.
IRA local man: How?
Michael Collins: Find out what they eat for breakfast.

Later --
"I want a file drawn up on every member of the British administration. Look through whatever you can find. Who's Who. Stubb's, Society columns. I want names, addresses, clubs, where they bank down to what they eat for breakfast. Keep it up to date. Add to it every week." -- Michael Collins, 1996.

Top 50 party animals (from Politico.com)

By ANNE SCHROEDER MULLINS & PATRICK GAVIN | 9/8/09 1:15 AM EDT

In the nation’s capital, social events are as mandatory as staff meetings. Whether you are a senior senator or a first-year staffer, a clever strategist or a budding journalist, the best way to move up is to make friends. “Creating and maintaining relationships are vital in a town where information is power,” says Republican operative and favorite party guest Ron Bonjean.

To facilitate this exchange, Washington has established a vibrant ecosystem of social events unlike any other city. Here at POLITICO, we’ve scoured the black-tie dinners, book parties and after-work happy hours to generate a list of the city’s Top 50 Party Animals.

But remember: A Washington party animal is not like any other. The very best don’t swing from the rafters or wake up on the roof. Instead, they hit a cocktail party after work, then make their way to a fundraiser and turn up later to toast a friend’s promotion. This list celebrates the partygoers that show up the most and throw the best events. Today, we list in alphabetical order 25 of the top 50 party animals in Washington.

You’ll find video interviews that make clear just how much personality these folks bring to the table. The web page for each party animal featured will be updated with video and links as CLICK roves the city for the best party news, gossip and good times.

Check back tomorrow for the remaining 25.

David Codrea on Commie Times Columnist "Mr. Moustache."

This is Thomas Friedman, senior foreign affairs columnist for the New York Times.

No, wait, THAT'S Joseph Stalin, collectivist butcher of millions. THIS is Thomas Friedman, modern-day apologist for collectivist butchers.

Friedman, like Stalin before him, is very proud of his moustache. This has caused a number of people to make him and his "I know better than thou" attitude the subject of cartoons.

Sorry, folks, I picked up another bug on Friday and I've been knocked for a loop -- temp, alternate freezing and burning up, sensitive skin (?), nausea, etc. Didn't even look at the computer all day yesterday. Awoke today feeling better, but with 400 plus e-mails in the in box. One of the first I saw was this from David Codrea about a Thomas Friedman column in the New York Times.

"One-party autocracy certainly has its drawbacks. But when it is led by a reasonably enlightened group of people, as China is today, it can also have great advantages. That one party can just impose the politically difficult but critically important policies needed to move a society forward in the 21st century."

Attached to the quote was David's reaction:

Shameful and treasonous. Typical unmasked New York Times apologia for tyranny. This almost makes me want the commies to take over just so they can enact their predictable purge of the "intelligentsia."

Anybody still think we can reason with cancer?

David Codrea

Friedman strikes a dictatorial pose.

Well, scratch a liberal, get a communist, I always said. And, no I don't think you can reason with cancer or any other type of collectivism.

Mike
III

This is where Thomas Friedman, advocate of the common collectivist dictator, lives.

"What does he eat for breakfast?" asks Michael Collins.

"Why does he want to know what I eat for breakfast?"

PS: Best "get well" call from yesterday. At the height of my misery, Bob Wright called me. His question: "Nobody came up behind you and stuck you with an umbrella, did they?"

Very funny, Bob. Very funny.

What I heard in the john at the gun show.

So, I'm sitting down, minding my own business at the Indy 1500 gun show, when I hear 4 guys walk in.

First guy: "OK, all of you write down my cell phone number so if you see something you're interested in you can call me and I check it out."

Second guy: "Do I want a pistol or a rifle?"

First guy: "We'll see what they have and talk about it."

Third guy to Fourth guy: "Did you get Martin's memo?"

Fourth guy: "Yeah, that (redacted)."

First guy: "OK, Irv, let's go back and look at that shotgun."

Deduction: Four guys from the same company. Three of them don't know crap from breakfast about guns. They persuade a work buddy who DOES know crap from breakfast to take them to the gun show and help them pick out suitable weapons.

Conclusion: More weapons are being bought by newbies than anybody thinks.

I LOVE IT.

GOA Alert on Cass Sunstein, "Killer Tomato" and the latest of Obama's stinking commie "czars." But what does he eat for breakfast?

Main Entry: ar·bi·ter
Pronunciation: \ˈär-bə-tər\
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English arbitre, from Anglo-French, from Latin arbitr-, arbiter
Date: 14th century
1 : a person with power to decide a dispute : judge

Some of you may recall my post on Cass Sunstein, from 28 April, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes here wherein I identified Cass Sunstein as one of Obama's larger "killer tomatoes." At the time we were talking about his proposal to impose a "Fairness Doctrine" on the Internet.

Barack Obama's nominee for "regulatory czar" has advocated a "Fairness Doctrine" for the Internet that would require opposing opinions be linked and also has suggested angry e-mails should be prevented from being sent by technology that would require a 24-hour cooling off period.

The revelations about Cass Sunstein, Obama's friend from the University of Chicago Law School and nominee to head the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, come in a new book by Brad O'Leary, "Shut Up, America! The End of Free Speech." OIRA will oversee regulation throughout the U.S. government.

Sunstein also has argued in his prolific literary works that the Internet is anti-democratic because of the way users can filter out information of their own choosing.

"A system of limitless individual choices, with respect to communications, is not necessarily in the interest of citizenship and self-government," he wrote. "Democratic efforts to reduce the resulting problems ought not be rejected in freedom's name."

Cass Sunstein, Killer Tomato.

We also talked about his proposal to ban hunting and give animals legal rights. Now GOA has just issued an e-mail alert on the killer commie vegetable (a "killer tomato" is red on the outside and red on the inside, that is, red through and through). Here it is, in large part:

Just when you thought the news about the Obama administration couldn't get any worse, gun owners find themselves needing to rally the troops once again.

This time it's the proposed "Regulatory Czar" who will be coming to a vote this week in the U.S. Senate.

His name is Cass Sunstein, and he holds some of the kookiest views you will ever hear.

For starters, Sunstein believes in regulating hunting out of existence. He told a Harvard audience in 2007 that "we ought to ban hunting." And in The Rights of Animals: A Very Short Primer (2002), he said:

I think we should go further ... the law should impose further regulation on hunting, scientific experiments, entertainment, and (above all) farming to ensure against unnecessary animal suffering. It is easy to imagine a set of initiatives that would do a great deal here, and indeed European nations have moved in just this direction. There are many possibilities. (Italics are his emphasis.)

If that's all Sunstein believed, he would be dangerous and extreme, but not necessarily kooky. Unfortunately, when you look at WHY he wants to restrict hunting, this is where he goes beyond extreme.

In Sunstein's world, animals should have just as many rights as people ... and they should be able to sue humans in court!

"We could even grant animals a right to bring suit without insisting that animals are persons, or that they are not property," Sunstein said on page 11 of Animal Rights: Current Debates and New Directions (2004).

Well, that's a relief ... he is at least willing to concede that animals are not persons! But he would still have animals suing humans, apparently, with more enlightened humans representing the cuddly critters.

Imagine returning from a successful hunting trip ... only to find out that you've been subpoenaed for killing your prize. Who knows, maybe Sunstein would have the family of the dead animal serving as witnesses in court!

By the way, if you're wondering what he thinks about the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, you won't be surprised to know that Sunstein is a huge supporter of gun control.

In Radicals in Robes: Why Extreme Right-Wing Courts are Wrong for America (2005), Sunstein says:

Almost all gun control legislation is constitutionally fine.... [O]n the Constitution's text, fundamentalists [that is, gun rights supporters] should not be so confident in their enthusiasm for invalidating gun control legislation.

Hmm, what part of "shall not be infringed" does Sunstein not understand?

Imagine the power that Sunstein could have as the Regulatory Czar -- the nickname for the person heading the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) in the White House.

As the Regulatory Czar, he could bring about changes in the regulations that affect hunting, gun control and farming. In short, he could make your life hell.

Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) objected to his nomination several weeks ago, preventing him from being unanimously confirmed.

That means that the Senate will now need to garner 60 votes to confirm this radical, kooky choice to the OIRA.

No doubt, many of the people our President wants to associate with are radical kooks. First, there was the Rev. Jeremiah Wright ... then there was the self-avowed communist (Van Jones) who was nominated for the Green Jobs Czar ... now, there's an extreme animal rights activist who wants to take away our guns and get Bambi to sue us in court.

It's time to take a STRONG STAND against this radical administration.

ACTION: Please contact your Senators right away and urge them to vote AGAINST the Cass Sunstein nomination. You can use the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center at http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm to send your legislators the pre-written e-mail message below.

Please do as GOA requests. It's fer darn sure the NRA won't do anything. Ironic ain't it? We always told them that hunters and prags (who were trying to throw us "hard core evil black rifle" folks under the bus) were going to be next. Heck, it looks now as maybe they'll be first. How about it now, General Snowflake? Have you found your "line in the sand" yet?

But one thing is sure, Obama will find something for Sunstein to do, even if it is the next Supreme Court justice. Check this out.

Ironic, ain't it?

This is a blog that keeps track of "celebrity lawyers."

And they were all a-twitter about this back on Valentine's Day.

ATL World Exclusive: Paparazzi Photos of Cass Sunstein and Samantha Power!

Friday, February 27, 2009 12:17 PM - By David Lat

The world is obsessed with celebrity professors Cass Sunstein and Samantha Power, who recently left the ivory tower to take high-ranking positions in the Obama Administration. He might someday sit on the Supreme Court; she's a winner of the Pulitzer Prize; and together, as we previously reported (see the update), they're creating the World's Smartest Baby.

How many HLS grads turned Harvard professors get named Fun Couple of the 21st Century by Esquire? . . .

Check out paparazzi pics of the Power couple, after the jump. How did Percy Thrillington come across these shots?

A few months ago, during the first week of school, I noticed Sunstein and Powers in the parking lot, taking some stuff out of their car (I think moving it into Sunstein's office). Having followed your blog's coverage of this ultimate legal power couple, and having a camera handy, I inconspicuously took a few snapshots.

Maybe a little stalker-ish. But they were in public, and it's a free country, right?

Indeed. You don't need to be a Fourth Amendment expert to know that nobody has a reasonable expectation of privacy in a parking lot. Especially not legal celebrities like Cass 'n Sam.

To see the photos, spin through the slideshow below. As you'll see, there were no bodyguards in sight. The good professors were carrying their own things, unaided by an entourage -- or even a gaggle of research assistants.

Legal academic celebrities: they're just like us!

So, even if he is unable to be "Czar," maybe he can be a Supreme. What a great idea! After all, he's "just like us!"

Lesson of Colorado: Ignore Victim Disarmament Zones and pack concealed anyway.

You know, my daughters go to the movies. What if Malia and Sasha had been at the theater, as so many of our kids do every day? -- Barack Obama reacting to the "Colorado Movie Massacre."
I'll tell you what would have happened -- the Secret Service protective detail would have put several bullets through the facepiece of the moke's gas mask -- end of story. The hypocrisy of these Mandarins, who live in bodyguard envelopes whenever they venture out of their designated Green Zones, knows no bounds. One of my daughters went to another midnight showing of the same movie here in Birmingham last night. She went with her boyfriend who was packing his permitted FEG Browning Hi-Power clone, despite the fact that the theater has a "no guns" policy.
Virginia Citizens Defense League lists Cinemark Theaters (which also owns Tinseltown, Cinearts, and Century Theatres) as being victim disarmament zones upon orders of the management. If so, it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.
Of course, as I lay on the couch upstairs this morning trying to control my nausea, I watched the predictable blood dancers of the victim disarmament crowd (Bloomberg, the Brady Bunch, et. al.) who made it more difficult to hold down my breakfast (a struggle I ultimately lost).
To me, the lesson of last night is to ignore Victim Disarmament Zones and pack concealed anyway. Only you are responsible for your safety, not some risk-averse corporate drone a thousand miles away.
We will find out in time what motivated this evil prick, but the essential lesson is that only the ARMED intended victims of a mass shooting can interrupt them in time to make a difference. The same goes for government-sponsored genocides.

Hey, Hillary! How they hangin'? An official Sipsey Street welcome to the State Department.

Hillary works the Arizona-Mexico border as a Gunwalker agent. She takes no prisoners.

It seems our coverage of the Project Gunwalker Scandal has excited some interest at the State Department. I can understand why. Hey, Hillary. How they hangin'? Welcome to Sipsey Street. Do YOU need Senator Grassley's phone number, too?

It Can Be Done -- "Fate only picks on the cowards and quitters, So give 'em both barrels--and aim for the eyes."

Another listless night of pain and insomnia. This time I turned from the previous night's National Geographic to a small, slim, blue soft-covered volume from the early 1920's entitled It Can Be Done: Poems of Inspiration. Collected by Joseph Morris and St. Clair Adams and originally published in November 1921, it was incredibly popular in its day for mine is the twentieth printing from August 1925. Indeed, you can still find it in print on Amazon here. You can find on the 'net here at Gutenberg and here at Archive.org.

The copy I have came from the library of a maiden great aunt of my ex-wife's, Miss Grayce M. May, whose penciled signature is inside the front cover. The circumstances of my acquiring it are a bit hazy, but as I remember it was in the effects of one of my ex-wife's relatives after their passing and I was given leave to rummage through the books before the rest were donated or discarded. I will pass this one on to my son Matt when I shuffle off this mortal coil. I have had it now for at least thirty-five years and it is one my perennial favorites that I return to every now and then.

Here are some of my favorites from within, although some of the sentiments are, perhaps, decidedly un-Easter-like.

The Quitter by Robert William Service

When you're lost in the wild and you're scared as a child,
And death looks you bang in the eye;
And you're sore as a boil, it's according to Hoyle
To cock your revolver and die.
But the code of a man says fight all you can,
And self-dissolution is barred;
In hunger and woe, oh it's easy to blow--
It's the hell served for breakfast that's hard.

You're sick of the game? Well now, that's a shame!
You're young and you're brave and you're bright.
You've had a raw deal, I know, but don't squeal.
Buck up, do your damnedest and fight!
It's the plugging away that will win you the day,
So don't be a piker, old pard;
Just draw on your grit; it's so easy to quit--
It's the keeping your chin up that's hard.

It's easy to cry that you're beaten and die,
It's easy to crawfish and crawl,
But to fight and to fight when hope's out of sight,
Why, that's the best game of them all.
And though you come out of each grueling bout,
All broken and beaten and scarred--
Just have one more try. It's dead easy to die,
It's the keeping on living that's hard.

-- Robert W. Service, From "Rhymes of a Rolling Stone."

Battle cry by John G. Neihardt.

More than half beaten, but fearless,
Facing the storm and the night;
Breathless and reeling but tearless,
Here in the lull of the fight,
I who bow not but before thee,
God of the fighting Clan,
Lifting my fists, I implore Thee,
Give me the heart of a Man!

What though I live with the winners
Or perish with those who fall?
Only the cowards are sinners,
Fighting the fight is all.
Strong is my foe--he advances!
Snapt is my blade, O Lord!
See the proud banners and lances!
Oh, spare me this stub of a sword!

Give me no pity, nor spare me;
Calm not the wrath of my Foe.
See where he beckons to dare me!
Bleeding, half beaten--I go.
Not for the glory of winning,
Not for the fear of the night;
Shunning the battle is sinning--
Oh, spare me the heart to fight!

Red is the mist about me;
Deep is the wound in my side;
"Coward" thou criest to flout me?
O terrible Foe, thou hast lied!
Here with my battle before me,
God of the fighting Clan,
Grant that the woman who bore me
Suffered to suckle a Man!

-- John G. Neihardt, From "The Quest" (collected lyrics).

He Whom A Dream Hath Possessed by Seamus O'Sheel.

He whom a dream hath possessed knoweth no more of doubting,
For mist and the blowing of winds and the mouthing of words he scorns;
Not the sinuous speech of schools he hears, but a knightly shouting,
And never comes darkness down, yet he greeteth a million morns.

He whom a dream hath possessed knoweth no more of roaming;
All roads and the flowing of waves and the speediest flight he knows,
But wherever his feet are set, his soul is forever homing,
And going, he comes, and coming he heareth a call and goes.

He whom a dream hath possessed knoweth no more of sorrow,
At death and the dropping of leaves and the fading of suns he smiles,
For a dream remembers no past and scorns the desire of a morrow,
And a dream in a sea of doom sets surely the ultimate isles.

He whom a dream hath possessed treads the impalpable marches,
From the dust of the day's long road he leaps to a laughing star,
And the ruin of worlds that fall he views from eternal arches,
And rides God's battlefield in a flashing and golden car.

-- Sheamus O Sheel, From "The Lyric Year."

Success by Berton Braley.

If you want a thing bad enough
To go out and fight for it,
Work day and night for it,
Give up your time and your peace and your sleep for it
If only desire of it
Makes you quite mad enough
Never to tire of it,
Makes you hold all other things tawdry and cheap for it
If life seems all empty and useless without it
And all that you scheme and you dream is about it,
If gladly you'll sweat for it,
Fret for it,
Plan for it,
Lose all your terror of God or man for it,
If you'll simply go after that thing that you want,
With all your capacity,
Strength and sagacity,
Faith, hope and confidence, stern pertinacity,
If neither cold poverty, famished and gaunt,
Nor sickness nor pain
Of body or brain
Can turn you away from the thing that you want,
If dogged and grim you besiege and beset it,
You'll get it!

-- Berton Braley, From "Things As They Are."

Stand Forth! by Angela Morgan.

Stand forth, my soul, and grip thy woe,
Buckle the sword and face thy foe.
What right hast thou to be afraid
When all the universe will aid?
Ten thousand rally to thy name,
Horses and chariots of flame.
Do others fear? Do others fail?
_My soul must grapple and prevail_.
My soul must scale the mountainside
And with the conquering army ride--
Stand forth, my soul!

Stand forth, my soul, and take command.
'Tis I, thy master, bid thee stand.
Claim thou thy ground and thrust thy foe,
Plead not thine enemy should go.
Let others cringe! My soul is free,
No hostile host can conquer me.
There lives no circumstance so great
Can make me yield, or doubt my fate.
My soul must know what kings have known.
Must reach and claim its rightful throne--
Stand forth, my soul!

I ask no truce, I have no qualms,
I seek no quarter and no alms.
Let those who will obey the sod,
My soul sprang from the living God.
'Tis I, the king, who bid thee stand;
Grasp with thy hand my royal hand--
Stand forth!

-- Angela Morgan, From "The Hour Has Struck."

And finally, I think, my favorite of them all. I vividly recall Bob Wright's recitation of this poem of Grantland Rice's, entitled On Down the Road, at a militia FTX campfire back in 90s out at "Fort Stinking Desert," New Mexico. I knew it, of course, but nobody can recite it like Bob.

Hold to the course, though the storms are about you;
Stick to the road where the banner still flies;
Fate and his legions are ready to rout you--
Give 'em both barrels--and aim for their eyes.

Life's not a rose bed, a dream or a bubble,
A living in clover beneath cloudless skies;
And Fate hates a fighter who's looking for trouble,
So give 'im both barrels--and shoot for the eyes.

Fame never comes to the loafers and sitters,
Life's full of knots in a shifting disguise;
Fate only picks on the cowards and quitters,
So give 'em both barrels--and aim for the eyes.

-- Grantland Rice, From "The Sportlight."

A Weekend in Lafayette Land.

On Saturday I was interviewed by a reporter from French Public Radio. Today she visits the Southern Preposterous Lie Center. I asked her to give them a message for me: "Tell them that when it comes to the constitutional militia movement that they don't know merde from breakfast."

Meanwhile, back in the Land of Lafayette:

Baby killed as family jumps from Paris window after 'devil sighting'

Saturday, 23 October 2010

A baby died when a family of 12 leapt from their second floor balcony in Paris claiming they were fleeing the devil.

Eight more were injured, some seriously, in the tragedy when they jumped 20ft into a car park in Paris suburb of La Verriere.

The baffling incident occurred when a wife woke to see her husband moving about naked in the room, police said.

She began screaming 'it's the devil! it's the devil!', and the man ran into the other room where 11 others adults and children were watching television. One woman grabbed a knife and stabbed the man before others pushed him out through the front door.

When the man forced his way back in, they all began screamed in terror and leapt from the balcony screaming 'Jesus! Jesus!'

The naked man also leapt from the balcony, detectives said. (MBV: Emphasis supplied. I wonder who was chasing him?)

A four-month old baby died in his mother's arms, while a two-year-old was critically injured in yesterday’s incident.

Police said they had found no evidence of hallucinogenic drugs or unusual religious rituals.

Versailles assistant prosecutor Odile Faivre added: “A wife in the next room saw her husband moving around naked and began screaming that he was the devil.

“In the confusion following this apparent case of mistaken identity, the naked man's sister-in-law stabbed him in the hand and he was ejected through the front door of the flat.

“When he attempted to get back in, panic erupted and the other occupants of the flat fled by jumping out of the window.

“A number of points surrounding this incident remain to be cleared up,” Mr Faivre said.

No doubt.

Unexpected trip to the doctor yesterday, unexpected C-T scan today.

Sorry, guys, but I am still in the rut of two steps forward, one step back. You may recall that I had a post-op infection that drained out my back. Over the months, that wound has never healed completely, although some times it was looking like it, only to get worse with drainage ranging from clear to pussy. (Sorry if you are reading this before breakfast.) Anyway, the drainage has recently picked up and I was compelled to get to the doctor yesterday, who scheduled the C-T scan for this morning. This has screwed up my writing times so the past few days have been more than sparse. I'll try to pick up the pace sometime this afternoon.

USA Today wants more restrictions on citizen firearm rights. LaPierre does his "enforce existing gun laws" dance. My LTE.

USA Today editorial board: Gun lobby aids Mexican gangs.

To which Wayne LaPierre responds: Gun form won't deter drug cartels

Subject: USA Today's proposal to reward the arsonists of the Gunwalker Scandal with more matches and gasoline.

re: Gun lobby aids Mexican gangs ( http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/editorials/2011-08-08-Gun-lobby-aids-Mexican-gangs_n.htm )

In the Gunwalker Scandal the tax-paid firefighters of the Obama administration have been caught setting arson fires. At least hundreds of dead Mexicans and two dead federal law enforcement agents are the result. At a minimum, from the evidence under oath at hearings, this demonstrates the facilitation of, and depraved indifference to, multiple murder. It involves hundreds of violations of federal law. It is, in fact, numerous acts of war against another sovereign nation and its people.

Now, before the investigations into that official butchery are complete and the high-ranking felons identified, USA Today proposes to reward their arson with more matches and gasoline, by giving the ATF more power to further circumscribe the rights of law-abiding American firearm owners. Some, including this writer, believe that this was the entire purpose of the exercise to begin with. Further hearings will demonstrate the truth of the matter.

But for USA Today to propose yet again empowering the ATF now, when we have yet to understand the extent of the law-breaking by the officials of that agency and their superiors in the Gunwalker Scandal, is at least depraved indifference of its own. The only people who have been demonstrably aiding the Mexican gangs at this point belong not to the NRA but to the Obama administration. Just ask the families of slain Border Patrol agent Brian Terry or ICE agent Jaime Zapata or the thousands of innocent Mexicans who have lost family members to weapons that ATF insisted federal firearms licensees sell to cartel straw buyers in the sure and certain knowledge that they were going south of the border into the hands of murderers.

For the USAT editorial board, it seems, this is not about justice, or even the common sense of fixing what is broken before proceeding, but rather the furtherance of the gun control agenda. It is, in fact, excusing shameless functional racism. For what's a few more dead Mexicans in the grand scheme of greater gun control? At this point the Gunwalker Scandal firearms have killed more Mexicans than the Texas Klan ever dreamed of doing. But then, as the ATF supervisor told a street agent who protested, "If you want an omelet, you've got to break some eggs."

USAT wants to further empower the murderous "egg breakers" before we know who ordered up the bloody omelet for breakfast.

Thanks, Diane, for reminding us of the collectivist threat to our liberty and property.

"If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an out-right ban, picking up every one of them... 'Mr. and Mrs. America, turn 'em all in,' I would have done it. I could not do that. The votes weren't here." -- Diane Feinstein on CBS "60 Minutes", February 5, 1995.
Senator Dianne Feinstein says she'll reintroduce assault weapon legislation.
Dianne Feinstein announced Wednesday that she’s re-entering the battle over gun control during her keynote speech to the California delegates to the Democratic National Convention. . .
She promised California delegates she’d return to Congress to reintroduce “an updated assault weapons bill.”
At the delegates' breakfast, she said that, "Weapons of war do not belong on our streets, in our classrooms, in our schools or in our movie theatres."
Nice of her to remind us all in prime-time of the collectivist threat to our liberty and property.

There's a lot you can do to increase your abilities in the field (you can translate this to 'life expectancy') providing you are serious about being able to 'hack it' should we ever be forced into a SHTF situation. Here are a few things to consider:

Nutrition - Cut the Fast Food out of Your Diet - Nutritional studies have shown that a steady diet of fast or processed food over time significantly decreases the metabolism, increases fat retention, elevates both sugar and blood pressure levels. You can't be overweight, out of breath, insulin and BP medication dependent in the field. It's just not going to turn out well for you. So, if you can (and we all can if we want to), cut out the fast and/or processed foods in your diet as much as possible. Go to whole grain breads made with unbleached or wheat flour. Cut out all "diet" products made with asparteme. Drink more water because it flushes toxins out of your system. Try not to eat anything after 6:00 pm and make breakfast your best meal of the day with light lunches and very light suppers.

Rest - Start making yourself get 7 to 8 hours of sleep daily. Of that time, 5 hours should be uninterrupted sleep because the body heals itself during that time. That's when the body fights off any infections or viruses you may have (colds, illnesses, etc). A good way to help yourself do this is by knocking off the hours upon hours in front of the reality based television. Our parents were right: TV really does rot your brain! Same thing with the computer. Limit your time on the pc. READ some of the references Vanderboegh listed in stead. If you're one of those people who can't seem to sleep well, doing the next item below an hour before you retire will help out considerably. In some cases, adding the natural supplement, "Melatonin" to your regimen about 20 minutes before bed may help, too.

Exposure - Contrary to what some say, humans need exposure to the sun. That's where we absorb most of our Vitamin D. It's what causes the body to produce the necessary amounts of melatonin that helps us sleep. Get out of the house, put on some shorts (wear sunglasses to prevent blindness if you must!) and go for a walk.

Walking - Add an hour a day EVERY DAY of brisk walking to your nutritional and rest program modifications and you will see some remarkable changes in your personal physiology! You'll start to get leaner, have more energy, and generally feel better. Don't walk so fast that you can't hold a conversation; a 15 to 17 minute mile in sweats or shorts with good walking shoes ought to do it. After a few weeks of this, when you put on your LBE and ruck and try a 'forced road march', you'll be surprised how well you perform, especially when you compare your performance to those who do nothing.

Marksmanship - Dryfire and position exercises. Breathing, sight picture, sight alignment trigger depression, and follow through. At least 10 minutes a day (not a whole lot of time, but the effect is cumulative!). Once a week, take your rifle down to its major groups and put it back together again. Make it fun. When you think you know it well, blindfold yourself and then add time as a stressor. "Becoming One" with the rifle isn't just some neat little 'zen' saying; it's a reality. The better you know your rifle, the better you'll be with it on the range and in the field. Practice magazine changes until you can do it without looking at the rifle or the magazine.

Little things, all, but it's the little things that make the difference.

What was that about the tea party being dead? Now this is what John Ringo called "a goodness thing." Of course it will just free Cantor up to sell out even more while he's still in office.

Too bad they didn't knock off Boehner in his primary. House Majority Leader Cantor defeated in primary.
In an upset for the ages, Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia, the second-most powerful man in the House, was dethroned Tuesday by a little-known, tea party-backed Republican primary challenger carried to victory on a wave of public anger over calls for looser immigration laws.
LATER: See also "Those who thought the tea party had been absorbed just got a big wake up call," says Republican strategist Alex Castellanos. "It's alive and well and eating elite establishment Republicans for breakfast."
And this: GOP Leadership in 'Chaos' After Eric Cantor's Loss. "We're absolutely stunned."
And this: Cantor Loss Could Spark Revolution in House GOP
"It should frighten everyone in leadership," one conservative House Republican, who exchanged text messages on condition of anonymity, said shortly after Cantor's defeat was official. "They haven't been conservative enough. We've told them that for 3 years. They wouldn't listen." The GOP lawmaker added: "Maybe they will listen now."

Sorry, but I've been lazy this morning. I spent it with Miss Eunice Habersham and a Fourth Generation Warfare samurai.

There is no news. There is only the truth of the signal. What I see. And, there's the puppet theater the Parliament jesters foist on the somnambulant public. -- Mr. Universe, Serenity, 2005.
Crawford Gowrie: Miss Haversham, I'm not gonna touch yuh now. You're an old lady, but you're in the wrong. You're fightin' the whole county, but you're gonna get tired, and when yuh do get tired, we're gonna go in.
Miss Eunice Habersham: [Unflustered] I'm goin' for eighty, and I'm not tired yet. -- Intruder in the Dust, 1949.
Rosey let me oversleep this morning and quietly went out the door without waking me. She figured, correctly, that I was still trying to catch up on the checks cashed on my Oregon trip. Now when I arise late, I tend toward lazy the rest of the day and when I got my grits for breakfast, I settled down in front of the television to watch the news but immediately became disenchanted with what Mr. Universe called "the puppet theatre."
So I flipped the channel over to Turner Classic Movies in time to catch the opening of the film based on the William Faulkner classic, Intruder in the Dust. It had been ages since I saw it and the gritty old Southern lady character of Miss Eunice Habersham, who faces off a lynch mob never gets old for me. She epitomizes the determined minority of the Three Percent.
After that, I briefly considered getting busy but made the mistake of flipping over to the recorded movies on the box and lo, and behold, was a Akiro Kurusawa movie that I had never seen, Sanjuro.
I was immediately taken by the intellectual subtlety and 4GW nature of the plot and with the wisdom of Kurusawa's ronin Sanjûrô Tsubaki, who observes, "Stupid friends are dangerous." and "You tired of being stupid yet?" and of course the eternal truth: "If it sounds to good to be true it usually is."
Like Intruder in the Dust, this is a movie that all Three Percenters need to see, for it not only explores the mental aspects of 4GW but the moral foundations as well. So, perhaps it was not a wasted morning after all.

"We Are Everywhere" campaign continues

A discussion over at TimeBomb2000, where LittleJohn asks:

Have you seen the "We Are Everywhere" campaign stickers?

While getting breakfast at McDonalds today, I saw the sticker below on a concrete post right next to the drive-through window. It made my day. Anyone else see these around your neighborhood?

Off to a late start, busy morning and afternnon.

That's my excuse for no posts until now. First off Zoe and I left shortly after 7AM to make early church (an excellent message, by the way) and when we got out we went directly to the Bankhead Highway military convoy which was stopped at Tannehill Furnaces State Park until 1200 HRS Central.
Here are some of photos from our adventure. The first thing that drew my attention was this early M-2 halftrack nicknamed the Yellow Rose of Texas (oddly enough it is owned by an Australian ex-pat who is now a proud American citizen):
Here is another view:
Here is a World War II utility truck, "The Iron Bitch," which has had, post military, only three careful owners. (And no, the name isn't about someone's ex-wife, but rather the original nickname that came with the vehicle and her present owner's wife actually preserved it herself during a recent repaint job.)
Above is a World War II vintage M43 ambulance. And below is a more modern ambulance:
The owners were no where around, but a glance inside the driver's side door revealed that the security system was firmly in place:
Finally, here is Zoe standing in the top hatch of a civilianized M1078 Medium Tactical Cargo Truck:
I can't say enough in praise of these living historians who are preserving these slices of history for the next generations coming along. They draw crowds of kids wherever they go and I think that's just plain wonderful. The hobby ain't cheap, but they make it fully available to those interested in their own military history.
Finally, we caught some Waffle House breakfast and then went to a local range where I scavenged some brass with Zoe's help. All in all, for all the fun, I overdid it and needed some lunch and some rack time to recover. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Sorry for the lack of timely posts but I'll try to make it up to you later.

Still pretty fried from yesterday. . . But may I draw your attention to the photos from the I-15 bridges below. The World Turned Upside Down.

"Yet let's be content, and the times lament, you see the world turn'd upside down."
Probably won't go to the Creek today but will have breakfast with some readers and then proceed to Columbus and points north by easy stages.
But I would like to draw your attention to the photos from the I-15 bridges that I added to the post below. Observe the BLM thugs behind their SUVs and ballistic shields with weapons out and trained on the crowd in the first panoramic view. Then observe the rancher/militia counter-snipers in position, shown in the second photo. This is Ruby Ridge and Waco in reverse and in fact is proof of my long-standing contention that there will be no more free Wacos. I'm told that when the BLM pulled out, their convoy had to run a gauntlet of the crowd, who sent them on their way with appropriate hand signals and catcalls. Ignominious failure must have tasted pretty bitter to the bully boys and their bosses. All they needed was Cornwallis' fifes and drums playing "The World Turned Upside Down."
