This whole incident dosent make sense. Im a cattle rancher. I drive thru there all the time. It is a little winding 2 lane road. It is open range and there are signs everywhere that state that. But a bull is like a drunk 15 year old with your truck. It will go thru anything when it feels like it. So getting loose and being on the road is part of the business. Bulls can be very expensive Some in that area have sold for $600,000. Dispatch called him and he showed up. Everyone makes a big deal about the rifle. Most ranchers who deal with cattle will carry a lever gun in 9mm or 357 mag. This way you can carry shot rounds to scare the animal into moving. Like I said you don't want to kill it if you don't have to. You carry the shot rounds in your pocket with one in the breach and the rest of the magazine is filled with something more lethal just in case. But my point is you are going to arrive with a rifle of some sort. Im pretty sure that if he tried to shoot a cop, someone would have been shot. No one was. I know that the Sherriff there carry body cameras. Where are they? Like I said. Nothing make sense.
I am probably one of very few readers of MVB that still harbor some support for LEO's, mostly because I have some very good friends in law enforcement. This incident, however, disturbs me extremely deeply. I am confident that my friends would never execute me in this manner, but that doesn't mean that there aren't dozens of others ready to take their place and do likewise when the time comes. Please keep us updated.
Keep a close eye on this one. Idaho State Patrol is handling the investigation and is notoriously corrupt. From what I've heard the County Mounties just plain slaughtered this man and all the locals know it. It's been a week and the pressure's building..If the cops were clean on this they would've already shouted it from the rooftops, hence the crisis management stuff.
I like the comments of Scott Richards. He/she appears to be one of the hired hands brought on board to defuse and de-escalate the community before several people get hung. He/she isn't very good at the job or he/she would be using a bunch of different identities.
In any case, no doubt the government and it's agents will report that every one acted within the law and that no crime or murder was committed by law enforcement. The fact that they are hiding the names of the deputies indicate how worried they are that serious retribution will take place.
You can expect all information to be withheld until tempers have cooled down and the people have gone on with their lives. You can bet that the governments involved will be lying their asses off. It's what they call public service and transparency and their excuse will be that they had to lie, in order to preserve the peace. Once they get away with it, they will do it again and again.
The sheriff appears to be almost smirking in the photo provided. He probably has a reason for doing so.
He also said banning residents' ability to openly carry firearms would do little for public safety.
"When I look around the country, what the open-carry laws are, are not generally a reflection of what the community's violent crime rates are," Suthers said.

Regarding Anonymous 8 AM post- well said, and I agree completely. I'm a cattle rancher in a rural area of northern California. I usually carry a S&W Model 28, loaded with 2 rounds of snake shot (for rattlesnakes) and 4 rounds of gas check semi-wadcutters. A rifle or handgun is a tool when running cattle in wild areas, and if local law enforcement doesn't realize that they're fools.
Something did go very wrong here, and I think I can guess what that was. I read that Jack Yantis was not only a cattle rancher but a timber faller, which adds up to a guy that's not going to take crap off of anybody. Whatever happened, it's a shame, and I pray we learn the truth about it.

November 8, 2015 at 9:52 AM That is exactly why the racist Mike Brown Trayvon martin BLM stuff got going - to delegitimize fighting back against corrupt cops. It has to be made into a race versus race issue to avoid a uniting situation where people stand together against regardless of color. It is also why a certain Flag was targeted specifically.
I hear the other posters about knowing good cops. I know some pretty good ones. They have my respect and I have theirs. The problem is the cops bosses. They have turned policing into a revenue stream and they are now willing to tell cops to KILL for that revenue and that power structure.
There will be more of this because Tyrants don't ever just go silently into the night. They have to be targeted and chased into it.

Citizens need to become just as eager to shoot first and ask questions later as the cops have become in recent years.
