Boy, there's gonna be some P.O.'d people at Academy Sports this weekend.

Dropped by this morning after early church following up on an Academy Sports ad that offered 50 round boxes of .22 Long Rifle ammunition for a little over $2.00 per box (limit ten). The counter help didn't have any and indeed hadn't heard that there was an ad in Sunday's paper. Oops. They looked around and discovered that they not only didn't have any stock, but that the only store in the Southeast region that did was located in New Orleans. Oops. Told them that it was a good thing that I was a good-natured fellow and coming fresh from church. They agreed. I also told them that their weekend was going to be a living hell when folks less patient than myself began to shout at them for failing to have an advertised product. They also agreed with that. The next stock truck isn't until Tuesday morning. Poor so-and-sos are going to have a rough couple of days. They were cussing the marketing department when I left.

Oops indeed! You are a true gentleman Mike for handling that 'situation' with much understanding. I feel sorry for those poor buggers left in the lurch by some idiot's poor planning. I hope they take the time to find out who that idiot/s is/are. I know, I would.

Well, my local Walmart has all of the .243, and .270 Winchester a man from New Mexico, or Wyoming could possibly want. The problem is, my local Walmart is located in Florida.

.22 LR ? What's that ?

Mike, I hope they gave you a rain check!

In my experience, marketing departments seldom if ever bother to mention their plans to the working grunts in sales. If they DO, it is much after the fact. Reason: they do not have to deal face to face with disgruntled, angry, frustrated human beings who respond to their tactics. They leave that task to the 'little people'. It is universal, no matter what field you work in.

Hope you got a raincheck for your 10 boxes. Corporate owes that to you and everyone who responded to the ad. Wish I'd seen it, since I'm in NOLA. Oh well.

There was mo ooops here. A clever marketing whiz ran up to his deadline absent any ideas and landed this dead fish at the last minute, possibly even thinking it as a great idea to "get people into the stores".

An enterprising set of people could see just how much 22 ammo the company had when it decided to go with this ad and maybe even nail em during discovery process because if they didn't have the ammo to offer in the first place - which is the easy obvious truth that is so self evident it almost has to be proven doubly - it is outright fraud. Everyone with a receipt and then some could be plaintiffs, at a time when lots keep their papers due to gifts being bought, could play class action.

No Way there was any intent here beyond fraudulent marketing. 22 is just too hard to come by.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. Went to our local Academy tonight and picked up 10 boxes of Federal American Eagle .22 cal. Long Rifle 40 grain solid ammo for $2.19/box + tax. A very fair deal that I wouldn't have known about if you hadn't mentioned it in your blog.
