This is hysterically funny. Worried about losing control of the means of sellout and electoral defeat, GOP elites want to turn to a proven loser.

"Time for GOP panic? Establishment worried Carson or Trump might win." Their solution? Romney, of course.
Less than three months before the kickoff Iowa caucuses, there is growing anxiety bordering on panic among Republican elites about the dominance and durability of Donald Trump and Ben Carson and widespread bewilderment over how to defeat them. Party leaders and donors fear that nominating either man would have negative ramifications for the GOP ticket up and down the ballot, virtually ensuring a Hillary Rodham Clinton presidency and increasing the odds that the Senate falls into Democratic hands.
The party establishment is paralyzed. Big money is still on the sidelines. No consensus alternative to the outsiders has emerged from the pack of governors and senators running, and there is disagreement about how to prosecute the case against them. Recent focus groups of Trump supporters in Iowa and New Hampshire commissioned by rival campaigns revealed no silver bullet. . .
There are similar concerns about Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who is gaining steam and is loathed by party elites, but they are more muted, at least for now.
And this is why: Cruz is foursquare against amnesty: "A long-simmering debate over immigration in the Republican presidential contest boiled over on Thursday, as Senator Ted Cruz accused his colleague, Senator Marco Rubio, of 'trying to jam this amnesty down the American people’s throats.'"

Ha, ha, ha..it's also funny because i read this on another site before you posted this this morning, and i had the same belly-laugh reaction!.. I was even saying to myself "this will be a riot if Dutchman put this story up" and i come here and there it is...The elites of the GOP are like the projected loser in a Don King fight; they can't seem to do enough to lose. They take a dive even when they're NOT being paid-off.They did the same in NY against Cuomo when they didn't even put any real backing behind their candidate Astorino...They should be taken out and hung even before the traitors to the constitution in the Dem. party...

This is the drunk looking for his keys under the streetlight instead of in the dark alley where he knows he dropped them because over there there's no light to hunt by.

This is the Fed setting a 0% - 2% inflation target because they have no tools in their toolbox that work on deflation.

And it's not just a problem for the GOP. Yes there were a bunch of Bush voters who stayed home rather than vote for McCain and even more who, tired of candidates selected for them in the hopes of not antagonizing "moderates", stayed home rather than hold their noses one more time to vote for Romney.

But there are also Obama voters who didn't show up for his re-election. Any guesses how many Obama voters will stay home rather than pull the lever for Hillary?

More and more Americans are becoming disgusted with the whole process and disconnecting from it. This is much akin to everyone overlooking "the dog that didn't bark". Neither party knows how to re-engage the disaffected, so they're ignoring that they even exist.

And neither side has a Sherlock Holmes to figure it out for them.

But the fact remains that once again, the people of this nation are becoming disconnected from those who are nominally their leaders. An article on the web pointed out that this has happened three times in our history. Once in the 1750's through the 1780's, once in the 1850's through the 1870's, and once in the 1930's.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the Captain has turned on the fasten seat belt sign. We are now crossing a zone of turbulence. Please return your seats and keep your seat belts fastened. Thank you.”

The "elites" of the GOP are Democrats. This is the pinnacle of the rename and relabel game. Folks, it is time to call them what they are, those "elites".... democrats. Communists, socialists, progressives, liberals, gop "elite" blah blah blah they are all the same thing - democrats.

And what are Democrats? Oh yeah, they are the ones who, from the very start, stood against everything Declared, against everything Constituted. Indeed, they, by their namesake's definition, stand against the government of republican form. They stand against what we all pledge to. They want to undermine and destroy not just the bill of rights portion of our Constitution, but the limits upon government authority built by the entire document. They reject the Declaration itself, because it, along with the Constitution, places and admits a higher power than government itself, thus admitting government can never be all powerful and all knowing.

Democrats are not loyal countrymen with political disagreements. They are indeed traitors by another name... and the fact is that some of those renamed, relabeled, bastards now have a (R) behind their names.

Both Trump and Cruz are putting Country, above party to expose this right here. Knowingly or unknowingly, they are channeling George Washington. If you want to see why, read Washington's farewell address.

Many are refusing to see what is happening. But one of these two men is going to be the next President and both would take this nation a step back from the brink of destruction. Personally, I think it is going to be Cruz.

Ironic that, because here we have a real protector and defender of the Constitution willing to break one its purest tenets trying to save it. We are about to have a man born in Canada become President and impose Constitutional Limitations upon the corrupt Parties chalk full of millions of natural born citizens who don't even bother to read, much less understand, their own Constitution.

I accuse the entire DNC, along with a solid majority of the GOP, of trying to jam amnesty down our throats. It would already be law if the GOP leadership weren't afraid that conservative voters would kill the GOP once and for all.

All I ask is that when the GOP's 150 year life as half of the 'two party system' comes to an end, nobody who was ever elected as a GOP member, with possible rare exceptions like Ron Paul and Ted Cruz, be allowed to run for office with the replacement party.

GOP will lose every time they claim to be the party of the "47%", while really meaning the 1%. If they want to win, they should support someone palatable to the majority of Americans who believe in Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, whatever their income level or political influence. GOP has degenerated into the party of oligarchy and mercantilism, when they should be the party of constitutional government.

Why is it so hard for them to understand that Americans want to keep their firearms and personal liberties safe, and not be subject to the threat of open borders?

Defeating the Dems should be easy. To Bernie-where are the jobs? To Hillary-what is the truth?

It already happened! The GOP agreed to a "one time only" amnesty in trade for Democrat agreement on securing the borders and requiring that every worker in the USA be subjected to E-verify. It was called "Simpson-Mazzoli" and/or The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. It was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on November 6 of that year.

Since that date all 3 of the Simpson-Mazzoli promises made by Congress to the American people have been broken. The border is still not secure. E-verify is still optional. And the same old voices from 1986 are demanding yet another amnesty.

All of it backed by the full faith and credit of the United States Government. You can ask any Native American you meet what that's worth. Soon you will be able to ask any Social Security recipient.

They may well quote "Mama" as portrayed by Viki Lawrence: "Welcome to the club!"

Exactly who are these "GOP Elites"? Is there a list? How many are there? Perhaps it is time to shine a light on these individuals, instead of referring to some nebulous gang. If they want to act like king-makers, they should be known by all.
