Thomas Sowell: "Stop the Bleeding."

There are lots of complicated issues revolving around the open borders -- drugs, visas, employers, refugees, crime syndicates, sanctuary cities, amnesty and more. But first we need to stop the bleeding.

No American citizen should be in fear because he or she lives in a border or transit area. We need to close the borders now, deport the criminal aliens, and allow the people through who are productive, and benefit our economy by working, rather than subsisting on social benefits. There is a place for migrant workers, and those who follow the rules. There is no place for criminals.

Governors Can’t Stop Obama on Refugees, but Congress Can

More than half of America’s fifty governors—including a Democrat—refuse to accept President Obama’s Syrian refugees. Unfortunately for them, federal law allows the president to resettle as many refugees as he wants. But Congress can stop him.

But Congress can stop Obama. Congress has plenary power over immigration, including admitting refugees. Congress can change federal law at any time. Congress can also refuse to renew funding for Obama to resettle refugees and insert explicit language into annual appropriations laws forbidding the various agencies of the federal government from spending a single dollar of federal money or assigning a single federal agent to carry out Obama’s resettlement efforts.

Obama wouldn’t even be able to drive the moving truck himself, because he wouldn’t be authorized to put fuel in the gas tank.

So Obama has a number of things he can do at the moment to carry out his plan, but it is a plan that would take years to carry out. Governors can make him go it alone from Day One, and Congress can make sure that his program’s days are numbered.

On the specific issue of Syrian refugees, I'm rather in favor of attempting to blackmail the current regime into accepting Christian refugees, and even giving them priority given the much more serious persecution they face.

It should at least be made an issue.

I have always said that in any rational world, Thomas Sowell would be (at least) our Secretary of State and Walter Williams the Secretary of the Treasury. I still treasure my raggedy copy of Sowell's 50th-anniversary review of The Road To Serfdom in Forbes Magazine.

Anonymous @2.12 illustrates why it is as destructive to vote for Republicans as it is to vote for Democrats: they have the power of the purse and they will not use it as it was intended because doing so would hurt Republicans as much as it hurts Democrats.

How does one know if one's actions are moral? If those actions deliver more pain to the actor than they do to others, we can be pretty sure it's the right thing...

First to anonymous, "... Unfortunately for them, federal law allows the president to resettle as many refugees as he wants"

You are incorrect. Immigration is under the LEGISLATIVE branch. That means it is FORBIDDEN to the other two branches. The duties of a US President is put into writing within the US Constitution, anything outside of those listed duties are usurpations, crimes; some are Treason and *Terrorism.

*28 C.F.R. Section 0.85 Terrorism is defined as “the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives”.

Who does the US Constitution assign the duties of "managing" invaders to?

Article 1, Section 8, Clause 15: “To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel invasions."

The Militia is the people, the organized Militia is people who do NOT serve witihin a governmetnal position yet have been trained as the congress requires the US Military to train. Yep, Vets.

They are the most dangerous people to the corrpt who serve within our governments and have been being targeted for years because can LAWFULLY train others to that standard within our nation when those who are required constitutionaly refuse to do their LAWFULLY assigned duty.

Clause 16: “To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress”.

Each state's Militia is made up of “We the People” protecting our own interests, homes, states, nation, and enforcing our governments. The Militia has as its constitutionally assigned duties to:

-- Enforce the US Constitution and each state's Constitution,
-- Enforce and keep the “Laws of the Union” (which are constitutional laws ONLY),
-- Protect the country against all enemies both domestic and foreign, and
-- “to suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions”.

But the Militia is tied directly to the US Constitution and each state's Constitution or their actions become as corrupt and criminal as those that serve and gave their Oaths to the US Constitution.

John Adams, A Defense of the Constitutions of the United States 475: "To suppose arms in the hands of citizens, to be used at individual discretion, except in private self-defense, or by partial orders of towns, countries or districts of a state, is to demolish every constitution, and lay the laws prostrate, so that liberty can be enjoyed by no man; it is a dissolution of the government. The fundamental law of the militia is, that it be created, directed and commanded by the laws, and ever for the support of the laws."

Alexander Hamilton, Federalist Papers 28: "The militia is a voluntary force not associated or under the control of the States except when called out; [when called into actual service] a permanent or long standing force would be entirely different in make-up and call."

Thomas Jefferson: “For a people who are free, and who mean to remain so, a well organized and armed militia is their best security."

So the defense of each state's borders from invaders belongs to us, "We the people" as does the charging, arrest, and prosecution of ALL those who serve within our government and did not at the very least keep their Oath (felony and the crimes of Perjury) by charging and removing those who have been working against our nation from the inside.

Governors do have the authority to refuse to take federal $$$ for relocation...that's what governors have been saying. People distort the truth for many reasons. Only congress can stop the influx ... its entirely in congresses hand how to deal with immigration.
