What's up is down and what's down is up. Or is it?

Journalists in Fantasyland: How Anti-Gun Media Convince Themselves Gun Ownership Is Declining

The story confirmed exactly what I thought it would. No one with a brain is going to tell a pollster (or any stranger) about firearms ownership. No one, not even my wife knows what I may or may not possess.....only me. She will find out upon my demise, and since I will be taking a dirt nap, she can do whatever she wants with it all. I do know one thing she will not do is take it to a police station for disposal.

U.S. gun manufacturing soars as Americans worry about security

The biggest change in production has come under Mr. Obama. From 2001 to 2007, gun production held steady at between 3 million and 4 million units a year. It topped 4 million in 2008 but shot to 5.6 million in 2009, held steady in 2010 and then spiked to 8.6 million guns in 2012 and a record 10.8 million in 2013, according to ATF data.

John R. Lott Jr., president of the Crime Prevention Research Center, said Americans interested in owning firearms are reacting to the gun control debate by buying more of them. But he also said polling shows a fundamental shift in attitudes, with Americans increasingly believing that the right to bear arms must be protected and increasingly seeing guns as a way to make homes safer, rather than as a potential danger in and of themselves.

Our local gun dealers would not say gun ownership is declining. They are all getting richer. I believe that's because they're selling more guns, but, what do I know?

When we married some 30 years ago my wife hated guns and wanted me to get rid of mine. Now she nags me to take her to the range so she can practice with her Beretta 92F. So much for "the decline in gun ownership"

The numbers returned by these pollsters are bogus because they are largely the result of cold call telephone surveys.

1. Since the pollsters are not supposed to call cell phones a large population segment that doesn't see any reason to have a wireline phone are not counted.

2. The pollsters tend to hide and/or spoof their caller-id info. Normally when I see "Toll Free Caller", "Private Caller", or "Caller Unknown" on the display I generally trip the ring & hang up.

3. If I'm in a particularly bad mood I pick up the phone and lie through my teeth.

"The old saying is that “figures will not lie,” but a new saying is “liars will figure.” It is our duty, as practical statisticians, to prevent the liar from figuring; in other words, to prevent him from perverting the truth, in the interest of some theory he wishes to establish." -- Carol D. Wright -- U S Govt. Statistician -- 1889

"Figures often beguile me, particularly when I have the arranging of them myself; in which case the remark attributed to Disraeli would often apply with justice and force: "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics." "
- Mark Twain's Own Autobiography: The Chapters from the North American Review

"87.3 percent of all statistics are made up" -- One of my favorite T-shirts ;-)

We don't even keep the land line plugged in anymore because of all the pollsters calling. The caller ID comes up on the TV (if it's being watched), so if it was important i can just get up off my lazy butt, plug it in, and speak. But anyone who i want to speak to has our cell numbers, so no need to ever plug the land line in..And as for the "poll" figures - collectivists of every ilk lie. That's all they have is lies. Every day more people see through their lies. Their lies are becoming a very bad joke.
