Another NRA endorsed candidate goes down in flames.

Gary Palmer swamps Paul DeMarco in 6th District Republican runoff
The NRA endorsed DeMarco, who was widely seen from his time at the State House as a vacillating weenie who kept his own counsel and his finger in the wind. The NRA were by no means the only "smart money" types to get burned on this one, but Palmer now owes them nothing.

The reason DeMarco got beaten has nothing to do with the NRA's endorsement. His campaign just blew up severely toward the end of the campaign. Also, Paul is not nearly as polished a speaker as Palmer. I do think, however, that Palmer will be a friend of gun owners in Congress.

The NRA is deeply embedded in the MidwayUSA website. When you "check out" with a cart full of reloading supplies...or whatever, they always try to squeeze an NRA donation out of you. I never donate.

Now I'm considering dumping MidwayUSA as a supplier for my shooting hobby because of how deeply the NRA is embedded with them.

Any thoughts?

Larry Potterfield, owner and CEO of Midway, is a MAJOR contributor to The NRA, to the tune of around a $million a year. The NRA simply appreciates Brenda and Larry Potterfield, both of whom are successful and very nice people. The NRA is also the absolute greatest Civil Rights Organization in the country. If you don't like it, you just don't understand the positive impact The NRA has on preserving our 2nd Amendment rights.

Midway USA simply participates in "the NRA Roundup", which is a program in which a vendor will ask the buyer to allow his purchase to be rounded up to the next higher dollar. If your order totals $50.75, then the roundup would be 0.25, or 25 cents. That 25 cents would then be donated to The NRA. BIG FREAKING DEAL, CHEAPSKATE! If you're so poor you would complain about a vendor doing that, where you have the option to say 'yes" or "no", then you're too damned poor to be buying anything, anyway. That's the extent of the "donation" for which Midway USA asks. Wake up, folks! It takes MONEY to win any battle in Congress. I would rather do that than have to use bullets.

If you're either offended or too much of a cheapskate to donate enough change to make the next whole dollar, then I don't think Midway would miss your business very much. The NRA is not "deeply embedded" in Midway. It is the other way around. Larry Potterfield, owner of Midway, writes a check to The NRA for at least a million dollars every year. And you're too much of a cheapskate to donate less than a dollar per order, eh??? I wouldn't be proud of that.

DeMarco did NOT simply vacillate with his finger in the wind. In stead, he went against the Alabama Republican Machine, headed by Bill Armistead. Because of that, Armistead came out against Paul, which hurt his campaign's results. Also, Palmer had Rick Burgess, of the "Rick and Bubba" radio show to make a commercial late in the campaign. Rick said a lot about how great a Christian Palmer is. Unfortunately, many Alabama voters value that far too much. I do, however, think Gary Palmer will help protect gun owners in Congress, even though I supported DeMarco in the primary runoff.

Hey Mike,
PLEASE get the provider of your "prove you're not a robot" service to use text that CAN actually be read. Their stuff is ridiculous. It doesn't require nearly unreadable text to prove that.
