Defy. Resist. Evade. Smuggle. "Gun control advocates refuse to give up. Pursue on the State level."

Old Gunhand, commenting on a Washington post article entitled here entitled, "Gun control groups plan to try, try again," writes:

This is why we have to fight tooth and nail to stop the Federal government from intruding on our lives and influencing our State governments through promises or threats of financial aid. You can see from the linked article below that they just will not give up. They have to win.

Although most of us did not expect it in the aftermath of Sandy Hook, the only gains the collectivist gun-grabbers have made so far is at the state level. So that is where we must fight them. This is the basis of my smuggling campaign of armed civil disobedience. The politics of the largely blue states where these losses have happened makes it harder to influence the outcome in a legal fashion, but they must be resisted in any case by any means necessary. (See "Thousands attend NY SAFE Act protest.")

For me that will mean that it takes a day of straight-through driving to get to Colorado the first week of July in a rental car, with all the gas that entails, and then -- assuming I survive the experience -- a day back to Birmingham. Yet the fight is in Colorado so that is where I will go. I will likely be bringing my daughter Zoe along as co-driver, video witness and ersatz nurse to help me change my wound dressings and keep a sharp eye on my health for Rosey.

We are procuring stickers for the magazines that say "Defy. Resist. Evade. Smuggle." The plans for the action itself is still somewhat up in the air, but Denver as a venue has, at the sage advice of Colorado friends, been ruled out for now. I'm sorry that is all the info I have at this time, but I will have more as the time approaches.

(LATER: One of the uncertainties is that there is an outside possibility that the legal challenge to the Colorado law may yet produce an injunction staying enforcement until the courts decide the merits of the case. If that happens, I'll use the magazines collected to break the laws in another state.)

Obama nationalizes the armed civil disobedience movement. "Defy. Resist. Evade. Smuggle."

"Under his directive, all gun sellers — including those at gun shows, online or in their homes — must register as dealers and run background checks on all prospective buyers."

All this means is that Obama has instantly nationalized the armed civil disobedience movement. What we have been doing in the various states since Sandy Hook now becomes the template at every gun show and private sale in the country. "Defy. Resist. Evade. Smuggle." -- And dare the sons of Beelzebub to do anything about it.

An Open Letter to the Men and Women of the Connecticut State Police: You are NOT the enemy (UNLESS YOU CHOOSE TO BE.)

The following letter was sent via email to members of the Connecticut State Police, Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection. There are 1,212 email addresses on the list. There were 62 bounce-backs.

To the men and women of the Connecticut State Police and the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection:

My name is Mike Vanderboegh. Few of you will know who I am, or even will have heard of the Three Percent movement that I founded, though we have been denounced on the national stage by that paragon of moral virtue, Bill Clinton. Three Percenters are uncompromising firearm owners who have stated very plainly for years that we will obey no further encroachments on our Second Amendment rights. Some of you, if you read this carelessly, may feel that it is a threat. It is not. Three Percenters also believe that to take the first shot in a conflict over principle is to surrender the moral high ground to the enemy. We condemn so-called collateral damage and terrorism such as that represented by the Oklahoma City Bombing and the Waco massacre. We are very aware that if you seek to defeat evil it is vital not to become the evil you claim to oppose. Thus, though this letter is certainly intended to deal with an uncomfortable subject, it is not a threat to anyone. However, it is important for everyone to understand that while we promise not to take the first shot over principle, we make no such promise if attacked, whether by common criminals or by the designated representatives of a criminal government grown arrogant and tyrannical and acting out an unconstitutional agenda under color of law. If we have any model, it is that of the Founding generation. The threat to public order and safety, unfortunately, comes from the current leaders of your state government who unthinkingly determined to victimize hitherto law-abiding citizens with a tyrannical law. They are the ones who first promised violence on the part of the state if your citizens did not comply with their unconstitutional diktat. Now, having made the threat (and placed the bet that you folks of the Connecticut State Police will meekly and obediently carry it out) they can hardly complain that others take them seriously and try by every means, including this letter, to avoid conflict.

Some of you are already working a major case on me, trying to figure out how I may be arrested for violating Conn. P.A. 13-3, which bears the wildly dishonest title of "An Act Concerning Gun Violence Prevention and Children's Safety." (What part of "protecting children" is accomplished by sparking a civil war?) Not only have I personally violated this unconstitutional and tyrannical act by smuggling and by the encouragement of smuggling, defiance and non-compliance on the part of your state's citizens, but I have further irritated your wannabe tyrant bosses by sending them standard capacity magazines in my "Toys for Totalitarians" program. I further have annoyed them by pointing out -- and seeking more evidence of -- the existence of Mike Lawlor's KGB file (as well as his FBI and CIA counter-intelligence files). In short, I have made myself a nuisance to your bosses in just about every way I could think of. However, their discomfiture reminds me of the wisdom of that great American philosopher of the late 20th Century, Frank Zappa, who said, "Do you love it? Do you hate it? There it is, the way you made it." Whether you will be able to make a case on me that sticks is, of course, problematic for a number of reasons which I will detail to you in the letter below. I have already done so to your bosses and include the links in this email so that you may easily access them.

But even if you are not working on my case you will want to pay attention to this letter, because tyrannical politicians in your state have been writing checks with their mouths that they expect you to cash with your blood. We have moved, thanks to them, into a very dangerous undiscovered country. Connecticut is now in a state of cold civil war, one that can flash to bloody conflict in an instant if someone, anyone, does something stupid. So please pay attention, for Malloy and Co. have put all your asses on the line and are counting on your supine obedience to the enforcement of their unconstitutional diktat.

I apparently first came to your attention with this speech on the steps of your state capitol on 20 April 2013. It was very well received by the audience but virtually ignored by the lapdog press of your state. If I may, I'd like to quote some of the more salient points of it that involve you.

"An unconstitutional law is void." It has no effect. So says American Jurisprudence, the standard legal text. And that's been upheld by centuries of American law. An unconstitutional law is VOID. Now that is certainly true. But the tricky part is how do we make that point when the local, state and federal executive and legislative branches as well as the courts are in the hands of the domestic enemies of the Constitution. Everyone who is currently trying to take away your right to arms starts out by saying "I support the 2nd Amendment." Let me tell you a home truth that we know down in Alabama -- Barack Obama supports the 2nd Amendment just about as much as Adolf Hitler appreciated Jewish culture, or Joseph Stalin believed in individual liberty. Believe what politicians do, not what they say. Because the lie is the attendant of every evil. . .

Before this year no one thought that other firearms and related items would ever be banned -- but they were, they have been. No one thought that the authorities of your state would pass laws making criminals out of the previously law-abiding -- but they did. If they catch you violating their unconstitutional laws, they will -- when they please -- send armed men to work their will upon you. And people -- innocent of any crime save the one these tyrants created -- will die resisting them.

You begin to see, perhaps, how you fit into this. YOU are the "armed men" that Malloy and Company will send "to work their will" upon the previously law-abiding. In other words, this law takes men and women who are your natural allies in support of legitimate law enforcement and makes enemies of the state of them, and bully boy political police of you. So you all have a very real stake in what happens next. But let me continue:

The Founders knew how to answer such tyranny. When Captain John Parker -- one of the three percent of American colonists who actively took the field against the King during the Revolution -- mustered his Minutemen on Lexington Green, it was in a demonstration of ARMED civil disobedience. . . The colonists knew what to do and they did it, regardless of the risk -- regardless of all the King's ministers and the King's soldiery. They defied the King. They resisted his edicts. They evaded his laws and they smuggled. Lord above, did they smuggle.

Now we find ourselves in a similar situation. The new King Barack and his minions have determined to disarm us. We must determine to resist them. No one wants a new civil war (except, apparently, the anti-constitutional tyrants who passed these laws and the media toadies who cheer them on) but one is staring us in the face. Let me repeat that, a civil war is staring us in the face. To think otherwise is to whistle past the graveyard of our own history. We must, if we wish to avoid armed conflict, get this message across to the collectivists who have declared their appetites for our liberty, our property and our lives -- WHEN DEMOCRACY TURNS TO TYRANNY, THE ARMED CITIZEN STILL GETS TO VOTE.

Just like King George, such people will not care, nor modify their behavior, by what you say, no matter how loudly or in what numbers you say it. They will only pay attention to what you DO. So defy them. Resist their laws. Evade them. Smuggle in what they command you not to have. Only by our ACTS will they be impressed. Then, if they mean to have a civil war, they will at least have been informed of the unintended consequences of their tyrannical actions. Again I say -- Defy. Resist. Evade. Smuggle. If you wish to stay free and to pass down that freedom to your children's children you can do no less than to become the lawbreakers that they have unconstitutionally made of you. Accept that fact. Embrace it. And resolve to be the very best, most successful lawbreakers you can be.

Well, I guess at least some of my audience that day took my message to heart. As Connecticut newspapers have finally begun reporting -- "Untold Thousands Flout Gun Registration Law" -- and national commentators are at last noticing, my advice to defy, resist and evade this intolerable act is well on the way. The smuggling, as modest as it is, I can assure is also happening. This law is not only dangerous it is unenforceable by just about any standard you care to judge it by. Let's just look at the numbers mentioned in the Courant story.

By the end of 2013, state police had received 47,916 applications for assault weapons certificates, Lt. Paul Vance said. An additional 2,100 that were incomplete could still come in.

That 50,000 figure could be as little as 15 percent of the rifles classified as assault weapons owned by Connecticut residents, according to estimates by people in the industry, including the Newtown-based National Shooting Sports Foundation. No one has anything close to definitive figures, but the most conservative estimates place the number of unregistered assault weapons well above 50,000, and perhaps as high as 350,000.

And that means as of Jan. 1, Connecticut has very likely created tens of thousands of newly minted criminals — perhaps 100,000 people, almost certainly at least 20,000 — who have broken no other laws. By owning unregistered guns defined as assault weapons, all of them are committing Class D felonies.

"I honestly thought from my own standpoint that the vast majority would register," said Sen. Tony Guglielmo, R-Stafford, the ranking GOP senator on the legislature's public safety committee. "If you pass laws that people have no respect for and they don't follow them, then you have a real problem."

This blithering idiot of a state senator is, as I warned Mike Lawlor the other day, extrapolating. It is a very dangerous thing, extrapolation, especially when you are trying to predict the actions of an enemy you made yourself whom you barely recognize let alone understand. I told Lawlor:

You, you silly sod, are extrapolating from your own cowardice. Just because you wouldn't risk death for your principles, doesn't mean there aren't folks who most certainly will. And, not to put too fine a point on it, but folks who are willing to die for their principles are most often willing to kill in righteous self-defense of them as well. You may be ignorant of such people and their ways. You may think that they are insane. But surely even you cannot be so clueless that, insane or not from your point-of-view, such people DO exist and in numbers unknown. This is the undiscovered country that you and your tyrannical ilk have blundered into, like clueless kindergarteners gaily (no pun intended) tap-dancing in a well-marked mine field. The Founders marked the mine field. Is it our fault or yours that you have blithely ignored the warnings? If I were a Connecticut state policeman I would be wondering if the orders of a possible KGB mole throwback were worth the terminal inability to collect my pension. Of course, you may be thinking that you can hide behind that "thin blue line." Bill Clinton's rules of engagement say otherwise.

The odds are, and it gives me no particular satisfaction to say it, is that someone is going to get killed over your unconstitutional misadventures in Connecticut. And if not Connecticut, then New York, or Maryland, or California or Colorado. And once the civil war you all apparently seek is kicked off, it would not be -- it could not be -- confined to one state.

This is not a threat, of course. Not the personal, actionable threat that you may claim. It ranks right along with -- no, that's wrong, IT IS EXACTLY LIKE -- an ex-con meeting me in the street and pointing to my neighbor's house saying, "Tonight I am going to break in there, kill that man, rape his wife and daughters and steal everything that he is, has, or may become." I warn him, "If you try to do that, he will kill you first. He may not look like much, but I know him to be vigilant and perfectly capable of blowing your head off." That is not a threat from me. It is simply good manners. Consider this letter in the same vein. I am trying to save you from yourself.

For, like that common criminal, you have announced by your unconstitutional law and your public statements in favor of its rigorous enforcement that you have a tyrannical appetite for your neighbors' liberty, property and lives. It doesn't take a crystal ball to see that this policy, if carried to your announced conclusion, will not end well for anybody, but especially for you.

Now let's examine those numbers in the Courant story. You know the size of the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection. Wikipedia tells us that "CSP currently has approximately 1,248 troopers, and is headquartered in Middletown, Connecticut. It is responsible for protecting the Governor of Connecticut, Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut, and their families." There are but 1,212 email addresses listed on the state website to which this email is going, which presumably includes everyone including secretaries, receptionists, file clerks, technicians, etc. Now, how many shooters for raid parties you may find among that one thousand, two hundred and forty eight that Wikipedia cites, or whatever number will be on the payroll when something stupid happens, only you know for sure. I'll let you do the counting. They are daunting odds in any case, and as you will see, they get more daunting as we go down this road that Malloy and Company have arranged for you. (By the way, don't forget to subtract those on the Green Zone protective details, for your political masters will certainly see their survival as your mission number one.) So, how many folks would your superiors be interested in seeing you work their will upon? And of these, how many will fight regardless of cost?

Let's assume that there are 100,000 non-compliant owners of military pattern semi-automatic rifles in your state. I think it is a larger number but 100,000 has a nice round ring to it. Let us then apply the rule of three percent to that number -- not to the entire population of your state, not even to the number of firearm owners, but just to that much smaller demonstrated number of resistors. That leaves you with at least 3,000 men and women who will shoot you if you try to enforce this intolerable act upon them. Of course you will have to come prepared to shoot them. That's a given. They know this. So please understand: THEY. WILL. SHOOT. YOU. (In what they believe is righteous self defense.) Now, if any of them follow Bill Clinton's rules of engagement and utilize the principles of 4th Generation Warfare, after the first shots are fired by your raid parties, they will not be home when you come to call. These people will be targeting, according to the 4GW that many of them learned while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, the war makers who sent you. This gets back to that "when democracy turns to tyranny, the armed citizenry still gets to vote." One ballot, or bullet, at a time.

This is all hypothetical, of course, based upon the tyrants' appetites for these hitherto law-abiding citizens' liberty, property and lives as well as upon your own willingness to enforce their unconstitutional diktat. And here's where you can do something about it. The first thing you have to realize is that the people you will be targeting do not view you as the enemy. Indeed, you are NOT their enemy, unless you choose to be one.

Again, an unconstitutional law is null and void. Of course you may if you like cling to the slim fact that a single black-robed bandit has ruled the Intolerable Act as constitutional in Shew vs. Malloy, but that will not matter to those three percent of the resistors -- your fellow citizens -- whom you target. They no longer expect a fair trial in your state in any case, which leaves them, if they wish to defend their liberty, property and lives, only the recourse of an unfair firefight. So to cite Shew vs. Malloy at the point of a state-issued firearm to such people is, well, betting your life on a very slender reed.

Thus, my kindly advice to you, just as it was to Lawlor, is to not go down that road. You are not the enemy of the people of Connecticut, not yet. The politicians who jammed this law down the peoples' throats are plainly flummoxed by the resistance it has engendered. In the absence of a definitive U.S. Supreme Court decision do you really want to risk not being able to draw your pension over some politician's insatiable appetite for power?

There are many ways you can refuse to get caught up in this. Passive resistance, looking the other way, up to and including outright refusal to execute what is a tyrannical law that a higher court may yet find unconstitutional and therefore null and void. Do you really want to have to kill someone enforcing THAT? Just because you were ordered to do so? After Nuremberg, that defense no longer obtains. (You may say, "Well, I'm just a secretary, a clerk, you can't blame me for anything." Kindly recall from Nuremberg one other lesson: raid parties cannot break down doors unless someone like you prepares the list in advance. In fact, you have at your keyboard and in your databases more raw, naked power than any kick-in-the-door trooper. And with that power comes moral responsibility. Adolf Eichmann didn't personally kill anyone. But he darn sure made up the lists and saw to it that trains ran on time. When the first Connecticut citizen (or, God forbid, his family) is killed as a result of your list-making, do you think that because you didn't pull the trigger that gives you a moral pass?)

So I call on you all, in your own best interest and that of your state, to refuse to enforce this unconstitutional law. There are a number of Three Percenters within the Connecticut state government, especially its law enforcement arms. I know that there have been many discussions around water-coolers and off state premises about the dangers that this puts CT law enforcement officers in and what officers should do if ordered to execute raids on the previously law-abiding.

You have it within your power to refuse to initiate hostilities in an American civil war that would, by its very nature, be ghastly beyond belief and would unleash hatreds and passions that would take generations to get over, if then.

Please, I beg you to understand, you are not the enemy, you are not an occupying force -- unless you choose to violate the oath that each of you swore to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic. For their part, the men and women who will be targeted by your raids took an identical oath. Can you think of anything more tragic than brother killing brother over some politician's tyrannical appetite?

I can't. The future -- yours, mine, our children's, that of the citizens of Connecticut and indeed of the entire country -- is in YOUR hands.

At the very least, by your refusal you can give the courts time to work before proceeding into an unnecessary civil war against your own friends and neighbors on the orders of a self-anointed elite who frankly don't give a shit about you, your life, your future or that of your family. They wouldn't pass these laws if they thought that they would have to risk the potential bullet that their actions have put you in the path of. They count on you to take that bullet, in service of their power and their lies. Fool them. Just say no to tyranny. You are not the enemy. Don't act like one.

My name is Mike Vanderboegh and I'm a smuggler. I am from the great free state of Alabama and I am a Three Percenter.

If you need to pigeonhole my politics I consider myself a Christian libertarian. I believe in free men, free markets, the rule of law under the Founder's Republic and that the Constitution extends to everyone regardless of race, creed, color or religion.

I most especially believe in the right of the people to keep and bear arms as the ultimate guarantor of liberty.

I have also been called a "seditionist" by members of the current regime. If faithfully fulfilling my oath to the Founders' Republic and unrelenting hostility to those who would undermine and overthrow it makes me a "seditionist" then I cheerfully plead guilty.

The Three Percent movement I founded has been denounced by that paragon of moral virtue Bill Clinton and I am a perennial "honorable mention" on the Southern Poverty Law Center's list of dangerous folks. I have even been the subject of an eighteen and a half minute rant by Rachel Madcow on MSNBC and the current Attorney General of the United States knows -- and despises -- me by name because of the Fast and Furious scandal that, with my friend David Codrea, I broke the news of on the Internet. Eric Holder would not be surprised to know that the feeling is mutual.

The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence calls me an "insurrectionist" because I don't believe, as they do, in a government monopoly of violence, but rather in a literal interpretation of the 2nd Amendment as a bulwark against tyranny. Well, as my friend Kurt Hofmann says, "It is better to be despised by the despicable than admired by the admirable" and I suppose my remarks here today will only reinforce my enemies' opinions of me. I think I can bear the burden.

Yesterday was the anniversary of the battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775, but also of the liquidation of the Warsaw ghetto in 1943 and that of the Branch Davidians at Waco fifty years later to the day -- two examples of what happens when governments exercise a monopoly of violence.

It is proper, then, to contemplate the lessons of the date in history -- April 19th -- then, now and in the near future. What I say now I say with reluctance, sadness and not a little bit of dread, but say it I must.

FOR SILENCE IN THE FACE OF TYRANNY IMPLIES CONSENT -- AND I DO NOT CONSENT!

Neither do I believe that you consent, for you would not be here today if you did. But what I say is not easy to say nor easy to hear and many of you will not like it.

Manufactured in Georgia, trans-shipped to Alabama, it came across your state line in the trunk of a car. The fact that the authorities of your state have not yet banned "sponge guns" is immaterial. It could as easily been a whole trunk full of real pistols. Indeed, before this year no one thought that other firearms and related items would ever be banned -- but they have been. No one thought that the authorities of your state would pass laws making criminals out of the previously law-abiding -- but they did. If they catch you violating their unconstitutional laws, they will -- when they please -- send armed men to work their will upon you. And people -- innocent of any crime save the one these tyrants created -- will die resisting them.

Yet despite the cost, these unconstitutional laws MUST be resisted. For if not now, when? And if not us, who? This is no longer a "slippery slope" leading to firearm registration and eventual confiscation -- it is a precipice that some states have already plunged over and that the federal government threatens to follow. Arrests are happening NOW. When, if not now, shall we resist? Will we allow ourselves to be shoved back once again, from the free exercise of our God-given, natural and inalienable rights to liberty? -- Shoved back once more, muttering but compliant?

THAT IS HOW WE GOT TO THIS PLACE --- WE NEVER SHOVED BACK WHEN WE COULD DO SO WITHOUT VIOLENCE. Where does it stop? When we are all disarmed slaves?

They smuggled Dutch gunpowder and French flints. They smuggled tents and uniform cloth and artillery and ammunition. Boston was the high headquarters of anti-British smuggling and John Hancock was its prime minister. Connecticut was a small empire built on patriotic smuggling. The colonists knew what to do and they did it, regardless of the risk -- regardless of all the King's ministers and the King's soldiery.

They defied the King. They resisted his edicts. They evaded his laws and they smuggled. Lord above, did they smuggle.

I JUST COMMITTED A "D" CLASS FELONY, YOU TYRANNICAL MORONS -- PROVE IT -- WHICH YOU CAN'T -- AND CATCH ME IF YOU CAN.

And I'll tell you something else. When the new ammo restrictions go into effect the first week of July, I'll be back -- with two full crates of 7.62x39 ball ammunition and I will transfer said ammunition into the hands of a Connecticut citizen without the state's permission or paperwork.

And after I break their unconstitutional laws again, I'll be sitting in Frank Pepe's Pizza down in New Haven waiting for Looney and Company to come arrest me --

ANY TIME THEY THINK THEY CAN MAKE IT STICK AND FEEL FROGGY ENOUGH TO TRY.

Today should be a big day in the Toys for Totalitarians campaign. Not one more inch.

We have seven fish currently in the water, running true (if some of them a bit slow thanks to the postal turtle). If the post office box delivers up some more postage expense money, we'll fire the last four torpedoes today.

After that, we'll see how the totalitarians react. A friend (and resident of Maryland) wrote, "I think you stuck your head in the craw of the lion, sending what you did to O'Malley. . . Please watch yourself."

Well, I can understand O'Malley might be a bit tiffed. It isn't often, I imagine, that somebody tells a man of such monumental ego and not inconsiderable power to "kiss me arse."

This is, however, the duty I signed up for when I laid out the principles of the Three Percent years ago. This seemingly "suicidal behavior" as one of my close friends called it, is nothing new. By way of explanation, I have been referring such concerned friends to these two posts from 2009: "Eat me! EAT! ME!" and Gambit: "Waco Jim" Cavanaugh and Gran Torino.

The Toys for Totalitarians campaign (thank you, David Codrea, for the apt moniker) is a gambit, designed to to both stake out in greater detail the doctrine of "Defy -- Resist -- Evade -- Smuggle" and to elicit a response from the domestic enemies of the Constitution. It is a gambit. And yes, I chose the United States Postal Service as a conduit for these "torpedoes" deliberately.

However these petty tyrants react, by the time the last four postal fish find their dictatorial targets it should be plain that -- regardless of politics, regardless of whatever friendly judgments they get from their black-robed partners in constitutional crime -- there is no unconstitutional law that they can pass and enforce that we cannot defy, resist, evade and smuggle in answer to it.

The letters and gifts are, from our point of view, certainly funny. But they also evince a deadly seriousness on our part. Not one more inch. NOT ONE MORE INCH.

Thank you for all your prayers and messages of support. A good friend sent me a wristband, upon which the Latin phrase "Deo Vindice" is engraved. I am wearing it now. When God decides he's done with me, He can call me home anytime. Until then I intend to stand. Given the success of my fight against cancer and other chronic disabilities these past two years, I believe that He is not done with me just yet. So I will stand. What the tyrant wannabes do about that is up to them. They must make their own calculations about whether or not the collection of my hide is worth the unintended costs to them. I will stand. To the CT State Senators And Representatives who voted Yes on "An Act Concerning Gun Violence Prevention and Children's Safety, also known as Public Law 13-3 or Connecticut Senate Bill No. 1160," 3 April 2013.

And, yes, I said tyrants. You bought it, in the form of the woefully misnamed "Act Concerning Gun Violence Prevention and Children's Safety," you own it, you are certainly -- if you get your way -- going to pay for it like it or not, so you might as well own up to it. Look in the mirror. That's what a tyrant in the 21st Century looks like. Mather Byles, the Massachusetts Loyalist of the Revolutionary period -- our first civil war -- once famously asked, "Which is better - to be ruled by one tyrant three thousand miles away or by three thousand tyrants one mile away?" The Founders themselves were just as suspicious of unrestrained democracy as a means of tyranny. This is why they gave us a republic of limited powers and the rule of law, to limit those who would misuse democracy to create a new tyranny. Yet that is precisely what you've done. Own it.

You know, in Greek mythology Cassandra, the daughter of King Priam and Queen Hecuba of Troy, was given the gift of prophecy. She could see exactly what was going to happen to her endangered city. Yet she was also cursed with the burden of never being believed. The frustration was said to have driven her mad. Never have I come closer to understanding Cassandra's curse than these past months.

Before I sat down to write this letter, recognizing that it is one of the most important and even dangerous letters (to me) I have ever written, I asked my friend Paul to pray for me. He responded thusly:

May God grant you inspiration, diplomacy, empathy, service-fullness, compassion and resourcefulness. May God grant you His calmness, centeredness, clarity, creativity, strength and courage as you craft your letter. Above all, may God help you in maintaining an open heart in all that you project outward and a remembrance of who we all are. We are all His sons and daughters.

Indeed we are all His sons and daughters, and I am grateful for Paul's prayerful reminder to me of Who I serve. However, you may conclude from my opening that I am struggling with that "diplomacy" part because frankly, you people have provoked in me and many of your fellow Connecticut citizens a real Old Testament anger at your felonious arrogance of power combined as it is with an overwhelming ignorance of the people you seek to rule. You have mistaken your fellow citizens for timid collectivist souls such as yourselves and you are very much in error -- and that error may get a whole lot of people killed, and soon. Sheer stupidity and waste of human life always makes me angry, so you will find me a trifle lean on diplomacy in this letter. The occasion calls for plain-speaking and brutal honesty.

It is not that I haven't been trying to warn y'all, like Cassandra, about the danger your conduct has placed us all in. On 20 April of last year, right after you passed your Intolerable Act, I spoke on the steps of your state house and said this:

"An unconstitutional law is void." It has no effect. So says American Jurisprudence, the standard legal text. And that's been upheld by centuries of American law. An unconstitutional law is VOID. Now that is certainly true. But the tricky part is how do we make that point when the local, state and federal executive and legislative branches as well as the courts are in the hands of the domestic enemies of the Constitution. Everyone who is currently trying to take away your right to arms starts out by saying "I support the 2nd Amendment." Let me tell you a home truth that we know down in Alabama -- Barack Obama supports the 2nd Amendment just about as much as Adolf Hitler appreciated Jewish culture, or Joseph Stalin believed in individual liberty. Believe what politicians do, not what they say. Because the lie is the attendant of every evil. . .

Before this year no one thought that other firearms and related items would ever be banned -- but they were, they have been. No one thought that the authorities of your state would pass laws making criminals out of the previously law-abiding -- but they did. If they catch you violating their unconstitutional laws, they will -- when they please -- send armed men to work their will upon you. And people -- innocent of any crime save the one these tyrants created -- will die resisting them.

And later on, I said this:

No one wants a new civil war (except, apparently, the anti-constitutional tyrants who passed these laws and their media toadies who cheer them on) but one is staring us in the face. Let me repeat that, a civil war is staring us in the face. To think otherwise is to whistle past the graveyard of our own history. We must, if we wish to avoid armed conflict, get across this message to the collectivists who have declared their appetites for our liberty, our property and our lives -- WHEN DEMOCRACY TURNS TO TYRANNY, THE ARMED CITIZENRY STILL GETS TO VOTE.

Now just like King George, such people will not care, nor modify their behavior, by what you say, no matter how loudly or in what numbers you say it. They will only pay attention to what you DO. So defy them. Resist their laws. Evade them. Smuggle in what they command you not to have. Only by our ACTS will they be impressed. Then, if they mean to have a civil war, they will at least have been informed of the unintended consequences of their tyrannical actions. Again I say -- Defy. Resist. Evade. Smuggle. If you wish to stay free and to pass down that freedom to your children's children you can do no less than to become the lawbreakers that they have unconstitutionally made of you. Accept that fact. Embrace it. And resolve to be the very best, most successful lawbreakers you can be. (1)

The thing is, apparently someone was listening. As Bob Owens reports: Botched registration leads to confiscation in Connecticut.

Gun owners sat on their butts and refused to register either arms or magazines, all but daring the state to do anything about it. Of the estimated 375,000-400,000 firearms deemed “assault weapons” by the state, more than 325,000 remain undocumented. Only about 50,000 were registered for future confiscation. The requirement to register standard capacity magazines was laughed at even louder by the citizenry; just 38,000 (less than 2 percent) of an estimated 2 million standard capacity magazines holding greater than ten rounds of ammunition were registered with the state. (2)

But Ed Jacovino of the Journal Inquirer reports that those who tried to obey your law and didn't get in under the arbitrary deadline are now going to be punished for their good faith efforts. (3) They are getting letters like this one:

Once people realize they can’t keep the guns and magazines, “they’re going to get rid of them,” Michael P. Lawlor, the undersecretary for criminal justice policy and planning to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, says.

Jacovino continues:

And while the state won’t immediately prosecute those who missed the deadline, it isn’t ignoring that information, either.

The rifle and magazine declarations will be included in information given to police responding to a certain address. “This would be a factor in deciding how to respond to different situations,” Lawlor says.

In other words, "we'll send a Connecticut state police SWAT team to your door if you are reporting a home invasion -- not to arrest the perpetrator attacking you and your family but to arrest and, if necessary, kill you."

Jacovino reports that Ron Pinciaro, executive director of the Connecticut Coalition Against Gun Violence, is equally bloody minded.

(Pinciaro) says the administration’s approach of sending a warning letter is suitable. "It’s fair. They’re giving them fair warning that they’re in noncompliance,” he says. Pinciaro adds that he’s glad a new bill wasn’t necessary — lawmakers were considering changes that would have extended the deadline beyond Jan. 4. “Now we’re saying, ‘OK, we gave them eight months, what else can we do for them now?’ That’s not the way any other law works,” he says.

Including, I might add, the ironclad Law of Unintended Consequences, but more of that in a minute.

Now I have communicated with both of these two true believers in citizen disarmament in the recent past. Pinciaro was the recipient of one of my Toys for Totalitarians awards as was your governor (see My letter to Governor Malloy here.) (4)

As for Lawlor, we've had a right brisk exchange of views -- all one way unless you count the major case investigation against me by the Connecticut state police that he's contributing to. I've sent him no less than four open letters since he began threatening Connecticut firearm owners on your behalf (see here, here, here and here.) (5) (6) (7) (8) I have even sent a request for his KGB file to the Russian Embassy here.(9)

That is not to say that the building crisis over your Intolerable Act has not yet claimed some "victims," of a sort, from your own ranks. I noted with interest this story from the Courant: "Senate Leader Not Seeking Reelection." (10)

The departure of Williams comes at a time of major change in leadership at the state Capitol. Senate Republican leader John McKinney of Fairfield is running for governor and serving in his last year in the Senate. House Republican leader Larry Cafero of Norwalk is widely expected to be in his final year at the Capitol, but he has not yet made any official announcements. Other legislators, including Rep. Livvy Floren of Greenwich, Sen. Gary LeBeau of East Windsor, and Sen. Jason Welch of Bristol, are not seeking reelection.

Rats leaving a sinking ship, no doubt. Not that it will have any effect upon their future prosecution under the Law of Unintended Consequences. Only one thing, which is entirely within your control, might. But more of that in a minute as well.

On your behalf, in order to save yourselves from yourselves, I have even written "An Open Letter to the Men and Women of the Connecticut State Police," telling them that they are NOT the enemy of the firearms owners of your state unless they choose to be.   (11)  A crucial passage from that letter bears quoting to you.

Now let's examine those numbers in the Courant story. You know the size of the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection. Wikipedia tells us that "CSP currently has approximately 1,248 troopers, and is headquartered in Middletown, Connecticut. It is responsible for protecting the Governor of Connecticut, Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut, and their families." There are but 1,212 email addresses listed on the state website to which this email is going, which presumably includes everyone including secretaries, receptionists, file clerks, technicians, etc. Now, how many shooters for raid parties you may find among that one thousand, two hundred and forty eight that Wikipedia cites, or whatever number will be on the payroll when something stupid happens, only you know for sure. I'll let you do the counting. They are daunting odds in any case, and as you will see, they get more daunting as we go down this road that Malloy and Company have arranged for you. (By the way, don't forget to subtract those on the Green Zone protective details, for your political masters will certainly see their survival as your mission number one.) So, how many folks would your superiors be interested in seeing you work their will upon? And of these, how many will fight regardless of cost?

Let's assume that there are 100,000 non-compliant owners of military pattern semi-automatic rifles in your state. I think it is a larger number but 100,000 has a nice round ring to it. Let us then apply the rule of three percent to that number -- not to the entire population of your state, not even to the number of firearm owners, but just to that much smaller demonstrated number of resistors. That leaves you with at least 3,000 men and women who will shoot you if you try to enforce this intolerable act upon them. Of course you will have to come prepared to shoot them. That's a given. They know this. So please understand: THEY. WILL. SHOOT. YOU. (In what they believe is righteous self defense.) Now, if any of them follow Bill Clinton's rules of engagement and utilize the principles of 4th Generation Warfare, after the first shots are fired by your raid parties, they will not be home when you come to call. These people will be targeting, according to the 4GW that many of them learned while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, the war makers who sent you. This gets back to that "when democracy turns to tyranny, the armed citizenry still gets to vote." One ballot, or bullet, at a time.

As I told the state troopers, this is all hypothetical for now, dependent upon your own appetites for bloodshed in furtherance of your tyrannical will. If you require explanation of Fourth Generation Warfare in an American context, please consult the introduction to my upcoming novel Absolved: "Tyrants beware. 4th Generation Warfare: How the next civil war will be fought." Of Absolved, I wrote:

I can only hope that readers will take my own “useful dire warning” more seriously. If one does ultimately break out, I will be as guilty of fomenting it as Tom Clancy was guilty of 9/11 -- which is to say not at all. It is precisely what I am trying to avoid. . .

And so it is with this letter. Again, I am trying to avoid bloodshed. The problem is that you "tyrannical morons" (as I called you in my speech last April with less Christian charity than I might have mustered) seem intent, at least from the statements of your creature Mike "KGB" Lawlor and those of Ron Pinciaro (to whom you seem to be dancing to his tune) are intent on working your will upon Connecticut citizens at the muzzle of a state-owned firearm -- a few thousand state-owned firearms to be precise.

Look. You screwed up. You allowed yourselves to be stampeded in the wake of an incident of incomparable evil into attacking precisely the wrong people -- law abiding Connecticut gun owners -- by true believers in citizen disarmament like Lawlor and Pinciaro with their own agenda, state power over the individual. Of course some of you fall into that same category but the rest of you are what most politicians across the country are: well-intentioned people (Lenin called such folks "useful idiots"), responsive to the last constituent phone call you received yet barely literate in your own state's history and the Constitution you took an oath to preserve. This comes at a time when the country is dividing along the lines of the answer to the question, "does the government serve the people, or do the people serve the government?"

We are at a crossroads. You, in the arrogance of your power and your ignorance of the people you seek to dominate are extrapolating from your own cowardice -- you believe that just because the government orders these folks to knuckle under that they will do so BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT YOU WOULD DO. You mistake them, and your mistake is, in the fullness of time, going to get people killed. And who do you think these people who you victimize -- these people who you will have state agents seek to round up and kill -- who do you think they are going to blame for that? It doesn't take Madame Lawlor and his crystal ball to predict that such people -- victimized by their own state authorities in an unconstitutional law that likely will be found to be null and void anyway -- will blame the people who sent the killers. Which is to say, you. (13)

This is deadly serious stuff, this foray into an undiscovered country that you have so blithely entered upon, like blind men and women tap dancing in a minefield you scarcely comprehend. Fully eighty-five percent of the people you targeted with the law -- the people that YOU AND YOU ALONE made into lawbreakers -- have just told you by their noncompliance to take your unconstitutional law and stick it where the sun don't shine. Does that not tell you ANYTHING? These people are ARMED. They are familiar with the finer points of marksmanship. They are principled in a way that perhaps only the Founders would understand -- at the risk of their own lives. So what part of "Oh, HELL no" don't you understand? You have been playing with titanic forces. You are going to send armed agents of the state to their doors to work your collective and collectivist will upon THEM? You have unintentionally sown the wind and if things go predictably south you will reap the whirlwind.

BUT IT IS WITHIN YOUR POWER TO REVERSE. You own the weather machine, as it were. I'm not asking you to repeal the law, although that makes perfect sense to me. No, I realize that too much of your ego, your own false vision of omnipotence is wrapped up in it to do THAT. What I am asking you to do -- no, what I am BEGGING you to do -- is to use your power to suspend the enforcement of that Intolerable Act at least until it is ruled constitutional or not by the United States Supreme Court. "An unconstitutional law is null and void." Do you really wish to risk death and destruction upon innocent people -- upon us all -- on a bet against the odds? Is your appetite for your own citizens' liberty, property and lives that insatiable? Or now, as the likely unintended consequences of your actions have been directly explained to you, are you willing to reconsider the menu choices? What will your political fortunes be when the first shots are exchanged over this? When the first innocents are killed in carrying out your will? What will your arrogance, your ignorance, your insufferable pride be worth to you then? What will it be worth to any of us? Starting a bloody civil war seems an odd way to avoid "violence against children."

"Boston Seen as Roadmap for 'Second Amendment Remedies' Crowd."

The following day on April 20th former Alabama militia leader Mike Vanderboegh spoke at a pro-gun rally in Hartford, Connecticut. Vanderboegh gained infamy in May 2010 when he urged pro-gun activists to "break the windows" of Democratic Members of Congress who supported Obamacare. District offices across the country were vandalized, including the Tucson office of then-Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.

In his Hartford speech, Vanderboegh focused not on health care, but on Connecticut's tough new gun laws, which include a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. Vanderboegh's message for those attending the rally, which was organized by the Connecticut Citizens Defense League, was, "Defy. Resist. Evade. Smuggle." Vanderboegh declared his intention to break the law by smuggling high-capacity ammunition magazines into Connecticut, cited my organization as one of his "despicable" enemies, and opined that "a civil war is staring us in the face." Most ominously, Vanderboegh stated, "When democracy turns to tyranny, the armed citizen still gets to vote."

Horwitz also went after my friend Kurt Hofmann. Kurt comments: "He's going to help me sell some more patches!" Personally, I'd just like to thank El Guapo for the free publicity. That is why I mentioned his "government monopoly of violence" collectivists in the first place. Sucker.

Behind Enemy Lines: Smuggling routes into the Northeast Tyrannical States.

I have been asked how it is that we get banned material behind enemy lines in the Northeast. There is no particular secret as to the porousness of the borders of these five states, CT, MD, NJ, NY & now RI. A glance at the map will tell you that all are vulnerable to seaborne smuggling, as the prohibitionists of the 20s found out the hard way. Overland, eastern Pennsylvania makes a perfect staging area for private vehicle shipments, as does VT and NH. UPS, FedEx and the USPS all still function quite well for direct shipments to volunteers behind enemy lines to and from blind addresses. Mostly this involves friend to friend transfers, arranged surreptitiously face to face and almost impossible to trace. The purpose of the smuggling is two-fold. First, to demonstrate the absolute powerlessness of the forces of state violence to actually enforce an unenforceable law without roadblocks and extremely intrusive methods which will alienate their own population (i.e registered voters). And second, to goad them into taking those measures which will demonstrate their fundamental unAmerican, Gestapo tactics to their political loss. They painted themselves into this corner. Let's see them get out of it. We have only to "Defy. Resist. Evade. Smuggle."

Gun rights groups have responded with outrage to the new laws, holding demonstrations at the Capitol in Albany, denouncing politicians like Mr. Cuomo and questioning the laws’ legality. Some gun owners have said they will refuse to comply with a requirement that people who already own assault weapons register them with the state.

Defy. Resist. Evade. Smuggle.

Kurt adds: "Nicely done, but haven't they noticed your Temple speech yet?" Good question. The collectivist mokes are slipping. Maybe I should send them an email.

Winning the Universal Background Check War (by pre-emptive surrender).

Fair or foul, “universal” background checks are incredibly popular among voters and will be implemented in some way, shape, or form. Our best hope to counter the draconian initiatives at the state level would be a pre-emptive attack at the federal level that allows for background checks, but doesn’t tie the background checks to the de facto registration of specific firearms, which is the real goal of the background check initiatives pushed by gun control groups.

No, no, no NO, oh, HELL NO! This is pre-emptive surrender.

Our only real defense is to NULLIFY the whole damn thing with armed civil disobedience. By what right does any government entity intervene in the transfer of private property from one law-abiding citizen to another? Not even King George the Third was so tyrannical, so grasping. The only solution is that of the Founders -- DEFY, RESIST, EVADE, SMUGGLE.

Defy. Resist. Evade. Smuggle. SABOTAGE. You definitely should not do this . . . (Fill out multiples of the NY State Police Assault Weapons(s) Registration with the names and addresses of gun grabbers.)

Do you know what happens when a wooden shoe is stuck in the mechanism of a windmill? It grinds to a halt. (It's a Dutch invention, I'm proud to say.)

Do not, whatever you do, print a bunch of these out and fill them with false info and send them in.

Devilishly clever idea. Actually, I'd like to see a couple of million of these filled out and mailed to the PTB in New York.

Of course with the ten thousandth "Charlie Schumer" they are going to be automatically round filing them, causing only a strain on the office mail boy and the garbage collectors, so, whatever you do, don't be creative and pick at random from people who write anti-firearm rights letters to the editor, or the corporate officers of anti-gun companies, or the staffers of anti-gun politicians. That would be bad and would make Andrew Cuomo very angry.

Yes. Well, I discovered yesterday afternoon that Dr. Johnson was entirely correct. The results of my latest liver scan came back. Boil it all down and the odds are that I will belong to the vagaries of history in six months, perhaps more, perhaps less. And as the good doctor said, nothing concentrates the mind so wonderfully. My priorities now are vastly pared down and I am jettisoning much that is now extraneous. I must, in the time remaining, get this wreck of a home in some sort of order for Rosey to live in, which means having the jungle that has grown up around it hacked down, the back deck partially torn off and rebuilt in smaller form, the removal of our above ground wreck of a swimming pool, repair of the back wall where the upper deck meets the house so squirrels will no longer inhabit the floor inside, replacement of the roof (Rosey has taken a loan from her 401K to cover that) and the cleaning of the gutters.

Next priority is to finish Absolved and two other manuscripts so that she has some sort of income stream.

In the process, I must hoe out, organize and donate my private papers to the Birmingham Public Library archives.

All of this means that the blog, among other things, is going to be substantially different in a way that you will notice, so I'm telling you up front why that is so.

Please keep Rosey and my family in your prayers. I beat the odds of my first cancer diagnosis for five years through the grace of God, who evidently wasn't done with me yet. In those five years, we broke the Fast and Furious scandal story, grew the idea known as the Three Percent and weaponized it in best 4th Generation Warfare fashion, built up the armed civil disobedience movement to the post-Sandy Hook laws, and generally became a thorn in the side of the empire. I tried not to waste the time that God granted me, and in truth I could not have accomplished any of it without the help of you, my faithful readers and supporters. I cannot express how truly grateful I am to be rich in such friends as I have made here in these electronic pages and all across the country as I carried the message of "Defy. Resist. Evade." Smuggle." Now, it seems, my time for an accounting is just about here. I intend to face whatever comes with God's help forthrightly, contritely and submissive to His will. Keep me in your prayers that I do not fail in this last challenge.

Two things you should know. First, I wouldn't have been able to make it up there without the transportation and the bulk of the expenses being picked up by Stewart and Oath Keepers. Second, after they jerked our permit, we were told if we tried to have the ceremony anyway we would be arrested. After the appeal was denied, Stewart went there intending to be arrested. Don't tell Rosey, but I was going to be arrested along with him. At the last minutes -- literally -- the town of Lexington blinked and allowed us to go ahead with the ceremony. Believe me, we are now into the era of civil disobedience on behalf of firearm rights. Push back. Defy. Resist. Evade. Smuggle.

Guest speakers announced for this Saturday’s event include Ammon Bundy, son of the Nevada rancher who fought federal officials earlier this year over use of public land, and Mike Vanderboegh, the citizen journalist who helped uncover the Fast and Furious scandal nearly four years ago.

While this Saturday’s event will give Second Amendment activists an opportunity to vent over passage of I-594, the Jan. 15 rally – when the Legislature will be in town – will allow citizens a chance to personally lobby lawmakers. That effort is being organized by POGR and the GRC, with support from the Bellevue-based CCRKBA, SAF and JPFO.

Uh, huh. So we're just going to be "venting" while SAF does the "real stuff." Like SAF is having such a successful time of using "tried-and-true" methods to sustain liberty in that beleaguered state. This reminds me of the time when Gottlieb had my mic cut off at the Gun Rights Policy Conference in 2012 rather than answer my question that spoiled all his dreams of "victory with Romney" triumphalism with: "What are you going to do when Obama wins re-election?" Fund-raise on the backs of defeat was, of course, the answer. Not that they admitted that Romney would lose. Why that couldn't happen, could it? So Gottleib had my mic cut-off.

Now that SAF has lost the i-594 fight, they want to do the same thing all over again and they expect US to expect a different result? Isn't that the definition of insanity?

More along the lines of "Defy. Resist. Evade. Smuggle."

It has been, physically and spiritually, a very rough week. There is no doubt that our fight is as much spiritual warfare as physical. And I have to tell you that lately I've been worn down with both. But some well-timed subscription donations and the receipt of three AR mags (destined for Colorado) at the post office today -- in a box marked "Defy. Resist. Evade. Smuggle." -- plus a chance encounter with someone who has me on their prayer list served to buoy my spirits, steel my resolve and reorient me toward the essential and away from the trivial. So I just wanted to say, thanks, guys. I'm still in the fight. But do keep me in your prayers.

Another perspective on my recent trip to Connecticut. From the Connecticut Carry November 2014 newsletter:

"Meeting Mike Vanderboegh of Sipsey Street Irregulars." by Rich Burgess.

Mike Vanderboegh is a very interesting character in our community. He has proven to be quite polarizing and quite controversial. One thing is for sure, he is deep into defending and fighting alongside us for our rights to defend ourselves and deserves great respect for doing so.

Residing in Alabama, Mike Vanderboegh writes for Sipsey Street Irregulars, a blog that is his own creation and has become world renowned. He writes about many things, but some of the most notable in the past few years were his investigative and reporting work on breaking the Fast and Furious scandal alongside David Codrea. He has also written in depth about the Ruby Ridge and Waco sieges and about the right to keep and bear arms along with government opposition and actions meant to destroy the right.

Recently, he has taken on assisting in educating and mobilizing people to fight against the Connecticut 2013 Gun Ban as he sees this as a battleground state, like so many other people in the pro-rights community do as well. Mike Vanderboegh does take the ‘battleground’ part a little more literally and seriously than others do, as he was around for the militia movements of the 90s that were fueled by the Waco and Ruby Ridge murders by the Federal government. In that, we differ a bit from Mike. We do not believe that the state of Connecticut is interested in or capable of full scale door to door confiscation. We also do not believe that we are on the verge of an all-out civil war in Connecticut.

Mike Vanderboegh also happens to be the founder of the ‘Three Percenter’ movement; a status that has resulted in no lack of heartburn for his enemies in state and federal governments.

Controversy follows Mike as he not only openly admits, but proudly advertises his smuggling exploits in bringing ‘illegal’ magazines, ammunition and firearms into states like Colorado and Connecticut after their respective gun bans were passed. He also issued repeated warnings to the state officials of Connecticut, New York and Colorado to not attempt confiscations against the respective residents of those states. The Southern Poverty Law Center has denounced Mike Vanderboegh as some kind of ‘Domestic Terrorist’, despite his constant writings about militias and the force that they may need to apply someday being purely defensive. According to Mike, some organizations in Connecticut have apparently cut ties with him deeming him ‘too controversial’ as well.

Connecticut Carry does not feel that way. We do not see reason to discourage or cut ties with someone who is fighting alongside us to make Connecticut residents safer. As far as committing supposed ‘crimes’ like bringing once legal ammunition feeding devices across state lines, we think that is between Mike and the Connecticut State Police, but we always appreciate our members or prospective members being better armed or educated.

We also recognize the positive contribution of Mike’s visit and his defiance of our state officials. Mike announced on his blog and through a formal press release that he would be coming to Connecticut to “Defy. Resist. Evade and Smuggle”. He did not try hard to hide his actions or to evade the Connecticut State Police, however, nor was any resistance needed to defy the State Police by smuggling his wares. In fact, the Connecticut State Police were nowhere to be found. They made no attempts to apprehend a known arms smuggler (one conspicuously wearing a very obvious ‘Arms Smuggler’ hat all over the place).

The fact is, the 2013 Gun Ban is a long and comprehensive set of edicts that are largely unenforceable written and ‘enforced’ by people with too weak a stomach to try and enforce those laws on anyone that they believe will fight back. Instead, they look for anyone that they can victimize easily and demonize in the media to keep public support behind their heavy hand. Mike was here demonstrating the impotence of the King’s edicts, just as we did when we put up our challenge for the state to ‘Shit or get off the pot’ with regards to enforcing the 2013 Gun Ban. We were considered controversial by the same people and groups then, so we can understand Mike’s frustration at such cowardice in the face of stating simple and obvious facts of life.

Mike publicized that he would spend Saturday at the Ye Connecticut Gun Guild gun show, and that is exactly what he did, sharing table space and talking to people about what is going on in Connecticut and what we need to be ready for. We also attended at least one brainstorming session on what some possible courses of action were to be and Mike ‘held court’ with anyone and everyone that would listen as they explored the show.

I must admit, I found it a bit surreal to meet Mike Vanderboegh. Just a few years ago I was reading his blog (which is still on my daily reading list) and trying to find anything ‘3 Percent’ related. I would (and still do) wear shirts and hats with the logo and I hung the Nyberg Battle flag to show my position on our rights. And now, here I was sitting around a table sharing stories and opinions of our ‘boots on the ground’ in Connecticut with Mike Vanderboegh himself. What a small world..

Anyway, I want to thank Mike Vanderboegh for all the work he does to support us in Connecticut, specifically Connecticut Carry, and the work he does nationally. This is a worthy fight, and this is a person worthy of you giving your attention to. Read his blog, send him your thoughts and support and make sure you show up to future events. You never know who will surprise us with their presence, and you never know who you will meet..

One country? Or two?

My name is Mike Vanderboegh.  I am from the great free state of Alabama and I am a Three Percenter. This is not the first time Alabamians have come to the aid of Texas in her time of need. There is an Alabama flag hanging in this sacred shrine of American liberty behind us, marking the sacrifice of the Alabamians who died here. But that was the least of my state's losses in your war of independence. After the surrender and massacre at Goliad, it is said that every single planter family in the Tennessee River valley of Alabama went into mourning, grieving for their lost sons squandered by COL Fannin. Alabamians have since been more than a little suspicious of Texas colonels, but as for myself I expect to make it back to Alabama in one piece after this, although I suppose that's up to the city leadership of San Antonio.

For those of you who don't know me, if you need to pigeonhole my politics I consider myself a Christian libertarian. I believe in God, free men, free markets, the rule of law under the Founder's Republic and that the Constitution extends to everyone regardless of race, creed, color or religion. I most especially believe in the right of the people to keep and bear arms as the ultimate guarantor of liberty.

I have also been called a "seditionist" by members of the current regime. If faithfully fulfilling my oath to the Founders' Republic and unrelenting hostility to those who would undermine and overthrow it makes me a "seditionist" then I cheerfully plead guilty.

The Three Percent movement I founded has been denounced by that paragon of moral virtue Bill Clinton and I am a perennial "honorable mention" on the Southern Poverty Law Center's list of dangerous folks. I have even been the subject of an eighteen and a half minute rant by Rachel Madcow on MSNBC and the current Attorney General of the United States knows -- and despises – me by name because of the Fast and Furious scandal that, with my friend David Codrea, I broke the news of on the Internet. Eric Holder would not be surprised to know that the feeling is mutual.

The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence calls me an "insurrectionist" because I don't believe, as they do, in a government monopoly of violence, but rather in a literal interpretation of the 2nd Amendment as a bulwark against tyranny. Well, as my friend Kurt Hofmann says, "It is better to be despised by the despicable than admired by the admirable" and I suppose my remarks here today will only reinforce my enemies' opinions of me. I think I can bear the burden.

But as you can see by my hat, I have also been forced by circumstances to become a smuggler. You see, the recent spate of citizen disarmament laws in states like Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland and New York has led me on a campaign to defy, resist, evade and smuggle in opposition to those laws. This is my specialty – a standard capacity magazine. So far my friends and I have broken the laws of three of those states – and we don't smuggle for money, we give the magazines away to people who have committed no crime save the ones that these state officials, these petty tyrants, have created. So, am I a law breaker?

They certainly think so. But it is an established principle in American jurisprudence that an unconstitutional law is null and void. One man's criminal is another man's freedom fighter.

This same principle was at the center of the civil rights movement in the 60s as was the concept of armed civil disobedience and the right of self-defense against uniformed criminals acting out their prejudices on the innocent under color of law. Few however know this part of our history.

Raise your hands if you've ever heard of the Deacons for Defense and Justice.

The Deacons formed black self-defense militias made up mostly of veterans of World War II and Korea (often carrying the weapons they had smuggled back from the wars) who protected the advocates of non-violent resistance. Ironic, huh? We've all heard of Martin Luther King's Gandhian principles, but few know that when he came to my adopted home town of Birmingham he slept soundly and safely because armed men like Condoleeza Rice's father guarded him with firearms in the hands and determination in their hearts. The Deacons were the Three Percenters of their time and place. And like the Deacons, we Three Percenters are here today not to break the law but rather to reinforce those laws against those who would force an opinion-driven agenda as punishment upon the law-abiding under the mere color of law.

The concept of the Three Percent harkens back to the Revolution when as best we can determine only 3% of American colonists actually took the field against the King. They were actively supported by perhaps another 10% with a further 20% approving but merely acting as cheerleaders from the sidelines. Likewise, a third of the population supported the King and the final third blew with the wind and took what came.  Today this third is watching Dancing with the Stars and gossiping about the Kardashians.  Some things never change.

The lesson of our Revolution – as relevant today as then – is that history is made by determined minorities. For good or ill this has been true throughout the ages. The Founders were such a determined minority. So too are the people today who are determined to subvert and overthrow the Founders' Republic and replace it with some supposedly benevolent collectivist Borg.

To these people the Three Percent of today declare:

WE WILL NOT DISARM.

YOU CANNOT CONVINCE US.

YOU CANNOT INTIMIDATE US.

YOU CAN KILL US, IF YOU THINK YOU CAN.

BUT REMEMBER, WE'LL SHOOT BACK.

THERE'S MORE OF US THAN THERE ARE OF YOU, AND WE'RE NOT GOING AWAY.

SO, YOUR MOVE, MR. WANNABE TYRANT. YOUR MOVE.

Another way of putting it is this: WHEN DEMOCRACY TURNS TO

TYRANNY, THE ARMED CITIZEN STILL GETS TO VOTE.

This is not sedition. It is not insurrection. It is a philosophy that the Founders embodied and would endorse today. The men who died at the point of Mexican bayonets behind those walls would endorse it as well. This philosophy does not even constitute revolution. We don't want to overthrow the government. We simply want to restore it to the Founders' model of what a republic should be. It is that determined minority of so-called progressives, the statists, the collectivists – call them what you will – who have spent the last century waging quiet revolution against the Constitution and the rule of law embodied by the Founders' Republic. Thus, if you wish to be precise, we are the forces of COUNTER-revolution to the collectivists' revolution. We are indeed the forces of restoration.

Whether we can restore the republic remains to be seen. I know of no example in history where a republic so corrupted, so undermined by its internal and external enemies, has saved itself from bloody collapse. So it remains to be seen.  I do know that we have to try.

There is abroad in our land the growing thought that America is now in fact two countries sharing a common border and (mostly) a common language but divided along the answer to this question:

DOES THE GOVERNMENT SERVE THE PEOPLE OR DO THE PEOPLE SERVE THE GOVERNMENT?

Mika Brzezinski of MSNBC recently reinforced this idea when she accused your Senator Ted Cruz of not being loyal to or caring about “the country.” It is apparent to me that Ted Cruz is in fact loyal to MY country and to his, which is the Founders' Republic. It is equally apparent that Mika does NOT see him as loyal to HER country. She believes that the people should serve the government.  Ted Cruz, and the rest of us, answer the question differently.

This is not a question whose answer can be finessed, compromised or negotiated. It is either one or the other. It is either the answer of individual liberty or that of the collectivist Borg. It cannot be both or part of either. For  our part we would be happy just to be left alone. But the collectivist impulse – the tyrannical appetite – cannot be readily denied by its practitioners. It is an addiction for which there is no easy 12-Step Program. And those who possess this insatiable appetite for other people's liberty, property and lives can only be deterred by the compelling and credible counter-argument that such appetites come with personal consequences for them – consisting at the least of a bad case of indigestion and, if necessary, broken teeth.

Are we irrevocably two countries and not one? WE ARE HERE TODAY TO TEST THAT THEORY. WE ARE HERE TODAY TO LEARN WHETHER WE ARE TWO COUNTRIES OR STILL ONE, UNITED AND INDIVISIBLE UNDER THE CONSTITUTION AND THE RULE OF LAW.

AND, I MIGHT ADD, WE HAVE THE OFFICIALS OF SAN ANTONIO TO THANK FOR THAT.

When San Antonio enforces its leaders political opinions under color of law they are no better than Bull Connor in Birmingham in 1963, fifty years ago. What we have seen is not “law enforcement”: it is AGENDA enforcement under color of law – which is itself illegal and unconstitutional. When Police Chief William McManus is quoted as saying he doesn't care what Texas law is, he is declaring himself to be the modern-day Bull Connor.

I am shamelessly lifting this next observation from my good friend Bob Wright of New Mexico who is here today. “Let's be clear,” as Barack Obama is fond of saying,

"OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS ARE NOT SUBJECT TO THE ANTI-FIREARM NEUROSES OF OUR LIBERAL NEIGHBORS OR THOSEOF NERVOUS PUBLIC OFFICIALS."

THAT is why we are here today on this spot sacred to the liberty of all Americans. That is why we are here – to determine whether we still live in one country, or two. The answer is up to the city officials of San Antonio.  Are they still part of the Founders' Republic? Do they support the actual rule of law and the Constitution that they took an oath to uphold?

Their own declaration of the answer to these questions will be seen on the streets of San Antonio today and going forward.

So, which is it, Mr. Mayor? Which is it, City Council of San Antonio? Which is it, Chief McManus?  You tell us. But take care with your answer. For we are the 3% and we will honor our oaths to the Constitution and the rule of law even if you will not.
