Retired Teacher Faces 10 Years for Flintlock Possession

This outrage was forwarded to me by a long-time reader with the comment:
A 72 year old retired New Jersey teacher is being charged with a felony for possessing an unloaded 1700s flint lock pistol he bought as an antique. If convicted he would face up to a 10 year prison sentence, effectively a life sentence at his age. Which might be a good thing because he would also lose his pension and have nothing to live on.

it become obvious NJ dictatorial mavens, intent upon controlling the voting populace, are reaching to extremes to persecute law-abiding citizens. And NJ laws governing everything from slingshots to antique firearms are just one example of the police state some would have encompassing america. >MWJ

The government probably wanted to steal the pistol.

Shaneen Allen all over again. As expensive as it will be for the defense - we all ought to kick-in $100 for entertainment value - I'd like to see this go to trial. I want to see the DA waiving the flintlock pistol in front of the jury to make a case about how dangerous it is for 70-year-old guys to be driving about in NJ with flint-locks (sans flint) unloaded in their glove compartments.

A flint lock pistol from the 1700's Who in the hell in their right mind would even want to shoot such a firearm.

The ruling class, at the cost of one old man, has shot itself in the foot again. They can't help it. There goes some more of that "legitimacy" in the eyes of the people, and they don't have much of it left to squander, either.
