The only Three Percenter at the Las Vegas shootings. The armed citizen hero that the media is strangely silent about.

Once the two entered the Wal-Mart, Jerad fired a single shot and repeated his call for revolution. Wilcox, 31, was near the cash registers when he saw events unfolding. He was armed with gun of his own, and told a friend he was going to do something. As he moved to confront Jerad Miller, Wilcox passed Amanda, not realizing the two were together. She slipped behind Wilcox and shot him at close range.
The only Three Percenter I can see in this whole evil tragedy -- whether he would have called himself that or not -- is Joseph Robert Wilcox. As a cop said afterward: “This guy was not some idiot with a gun. To me, he was a hero. He was trying to stop an active shooter.”

The LSM are studiously avoiding the mentioning of a CHL being involved. Some of the more "Progressive" blogs are trumpeting the "see, it didn't make a difference" meme.

In an active shooter situation the good guy must fully and accurately assess the tactical situation and account for all the bad guy(s). He should also try to coordinate with other any other potential good guys before disclosing himself. Confront only when you have the advantage. There are too few good guys out there to expend themselves needlessly.

practical lesson from the death of this good man:
always strive for 360 degree situational awareness.
Godspeed Mr. Wilcox.

I scored perfect on my CHL firearms proficiency test. That means all my rounds were potential kill shots. Many years back, I put an entire magazine from a collector grade Browning Hi Power, (15 rnds), into a fifty-five gallon drum from 75 yards away. In my opinion, everybody should practice with their hand gun until they can hit targets like that. Wilcox attempted to get closer to the perp to insure an accurate kill shot and didn't notice that the perp had an accomplice. He should have made a kill shot on the perp from distance. Had he done so, the accomplice would have made herself known immediately and Wilcox could have dropped her too.

Moral to my story? Get better with your handgun so that you can hit a BEER CAN FROM AT LEAST 25 YARDS AWAY. I certainly can. With enough practice, I think anybody can. Practice, practice, practice!

Let the deceased give us this lesson:

When you engage, be aware of your six.

When the progressives say that the man who tried to stop them made no difference, it reminded me of an article by Larry Correia.

http://monsterhunternation.com/2012/12/20/an-opinion-on-gun-control/

"No. Hear me out. The single best way to respond to a mass shooter is with an immediate, violent response. The vast majority of the time, as soon as a mass shooter meets serious resistance, it bursts their fantasy world bubble. Then they kill themselves or surrender. This has happened over and over again."

It seems that this is exactly what happened...the CHL carrier may have prevented a much larger body count. He DID make a difference.

The man may have had bad luck in the confrontation but at least he tried. His sacrifice was no less noble even if he did fail. He rolled the dice and it didn't work out for him. The man is a hero and should treated as one.
