The Empire Strikes Back: The Obamanoids have gone Nixonian with the folks on their enemies' list apparently. I get an IRS demand letter.

Nixon’s Enemies List is the informal name of what started as a list of President of the United States Richard Nixon’s major political opponents compiled by Charles Colson, written by George T. Bell (assistant to Colson, special counsel to the White House), and sent in memorandum form to John Dean on September 9, 1971. The list was part of a campaign officially known as “Opponents List” and “Political Enemies Project.” The list became public knowledge when Dean mentioned during hearings with the Senate Watergate Committee that a list existed containing those whom the president did not like. Journalist Daniel Schorr, who happened to be on the list, managed to obtain copies of it later that day.

The official purpose, as described by the White House Counsel's Office, was to "screw" Nixon's political enemies, by means of tax audits from the Internal Revenue Service, and by manipulating "grant availability, federal contracts, litigation, prosecution, etc."

In a memorandum from John Dean to Lawrence Higby (August 16, 1971), Dean explained the purpose of the list succinctly:

“This memorandum addresses the matter of how we can maximize the fact of our incumbency in dealing with persons known to be active in their opposition to our Administration; stated a bit more bluntly—how we can use the available federal machinery to screw our political enemies." -- Wikipedia.

Got a demand letter from the IRS this week on 2009's taxes. First time in my life that's ever happened. Never an audit, never a question. They tell me to pay up $1,911 by 30 March or else. So, they've decided to go all Nixonian on me. They'll play hell getting it. I'm having a volunteer CPA look at it to see if it can be challenged.

At the rate I can pay it, Lanny Breuer will be out of prison before I finish.

Maybe this is a good omen. Hey, Obama! Remember what happened to Nixon?

LATER: For those of you who asked, the "carrying concealed without a permit" charge goes to hearing in early April.

They just arrested Schaeffer Cox in Alaska. Watch your back, sounds like there could be a reprisal against militias in general.

Taxpayer Rights: What You Need to Know If You Get Audited

Wasn't that the way the feebs got Capone?

I remember reading a report about the IRS checking its own auditors' practices. Seems they gave 50 different auditors the EXACT SAME return - complete with call required documentation - and told them to audit them.

The 50 auditors - trained, experienced IRS auditors - came up with (IMS) 46 different answers. The only thing they all agreed upon was that the person being audited was short and needed to pay more. Otherwise they derived 46 different answers regarding HOW MUCH was owed.

I don't know which is more unsettling; the 46 different answers or the 4 repeats.

Hang in there. If necessary to keep you outta jail I reckon we can scrape that much together 5 or 10 bucks a head.

BTW, how's the weapons charge affair going?

Ignorance is correctable. Stupidity is permanent - and (thankfully) frequently terminal.

If you haven't been audited, how could they say you owned money?

Just briefing myself on Schaeffer Cox and saw this.

http://newsminer.com/view/full_story/6770016/article-Second-Amendment-Task-Force-leader-Schaeffer-Cox-arrested-on-weapons-charge?instance=home_news_window_left_top_1

"It’s the second arrest this month for Cox, who was charged with felony assault on March 2, a week after Alaska State Troopers accused him of choking his wife during a trip to Anchorage. Cox, who didn’t have a previous criminal record, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor reckless endangerment on March 5 and received a suspended sentence"

The Right to Challenge IRS Notices

The IRS mails tens of millions of notices each year, most of which are demands for more money. But don't automatically reach for your checkbook!

According to the Government Accounting Office, 48% of these notices are "incorrect or incomplete." So why does the IRS keep sending them? Because research has shown that, rather than fight the IRS, most taxpayers would rather just cough up the money!

Don't let Uncle Sam pull one over on you. You can challenge and cancel those notices if you disagree and act promptly.

Mike,

They are jacking with you...Look at the $ amount. $1911 as in 45 cal.

Let us know what happens with the IRS. I'm sure that we will all be willing to help.

And if you will be able to get that CCP after the weapons charge you really should go and get that permission slip,if for nothing else to keep that from happening again.

Your not the only one Mike.

I wonder how many other bloggers are getting this "special" treatment.

Seems to me there's something rather poetic about that dollar-amount...

1911?

Why, I've got that RIGHT HERE!

;oD

It's been going around - they're screwing with a couple of other gun-bloggers as well. No surprise, it's what they do -- though IIRC Clinton did a whole lot more of it than ol' Dick or any Retardlican ever dreamed of doing.

Don't sweat it - just promise to pay 'em $10 a month...

Oh, and Anon#1 is correct -- they just rounded up a bunch of "militia-types" in AK, including Schaeffer Cox, on charges remarkably similare to the Hutaree fiasco.

News stories' comment-sections are full of lefty-drivel -- I'd appreciate others' joining me in pointing out (1) presumption of innocence (2) History -- EVERY SINGLE "Hutaree" has been freed without charge and (3) this is what they do when they need to misdirect your attention because they're in trouble somewhere else!

Otherwise, watch your Six, all...

Might be a good time to re-post the old "one hundred heads" post...

Tell the IRS that you want the same treatment that Tim Giethner received........

Welcome to the club Mike, They did the same thing to me back in the `90's when I was with the G.M.M. You CAN beat them, I did. Remember to record every conversation, make duplicates of everything, and stick your finger in their eye at every opportunity.

Gee, nice to get confirmation that the Obama administration is corrupt and has an enemies list.

Spread this around the blogosphere far and wide. Make the bastards earn that 2k the hard way.

And yeah, if you need a few bucks to help pay for your audit defense, I can certainly cough that up, even in this economy.

Mike,

Hopefully, anyone engaged in collecting the necessary items to prep for the possibility of future festivities will secrete them in Charlie's cave so that IRS doesn't seize them if they decide to seize assets in lieu. A wink is as good as a nod.

$1,911? the same number as the Colt? is that some weird twist of numbers on what they're saying you owe because you have a blog that discusses 2nd Amendment issues, among other items? Or is that just a coincidence?

Anon poster at 5:27PM, there were 4 others arrested besides Cox, and for more reasons than back taxes, so the suggestion about militia reprisals is premature.

Fascinating.

Or maybe you actually screwed up your 2009 taxes and really owe the money?

I wonder who asked for your audit....?

Interesting and no, 1911 is not a coincidence.

Wonder what those odds are.

I mean no disrespect to your or yours, Mike, but welcome to the club. We got invited to those chats in 1998, 2007, & 2008.

Had any "professional investment advice" recently? That's what got us screwed, and I'd still like to go visit the stupid SOB.

I won't bother going to see him, but I don't think I'd be really surprised or disappointed if he got defenstrated. (I think I got that word from your site. Thanks!)

You know how it is, once they get your number, they call it from time to time. They MAY call us again sometime. They've got the numbers.

I am still waiting for "ABSOLVED" to hit the printers. Willing to buy some in bulk to pass out to friends & family. Got an 8-Pack of "DARE TO PREPARE" from the SteveQuayle.com website, kept one and passed out the rest. Once "ABSOLVED" is on the market I would think the cash will roll in (so the Feds can get more than their share). That should solve a problem or two I would think.

I like the "Absolved" strategy - remember Willie Nelson and the IRS Tapes?
Maybe you can get Willie to write liner notes for your book!

Seriously, don't forget to watch the other hand...
