Praxis: Door Jamb Armor

A tip of the boonie hat to Peter, who writes:

I came across a company called Armor Concepts and their product Door Jamb Armor. After watching video on their site, I decided to purchase three sets for every entry door to my home. I'm 100% positive that no one will kick in my door - in fact, one of their videos shows how hard it is to bust the door in even with a police battering ram.

Wonder if you could electrify that sucker so that it conducts back up through the battering ram at the moment of contact?

Hmmmm?

Interesting. Good alternative for renters (with landlord permission of course). However, it's best to start with a completely steel door and frame with a lock that pins the top and bottom to the frame and a steel reinforced threshhold. That will help to keep the door locked even if a shotgun round(s) destroy the deadbolt lock guts.

The hinge side should be pinned as well. These should be at least a half inch in diameter, fixed to the door and protruding into the frame ~half inch. Two for each hinge is good for starters. Any extras should be about waist height.

The steel frame should be well anchored in masonry or at least yellow pine (not white) framework of significant proportion.

I'm not talking about the thin sheet metal clad stuff found at home centers, but the industrial metal door sets found at masonry suppliers...

I like it. This product falls in the "Why can't all "Praxis" items be available at Loews?" category.

I think that is PERFECT for apartment dwellers. But for ground floor dwelling and regular houses...What keeps them from getting in via the windows? They are obviously not afraid of the noise it would create.

*************

Why, you install thick, heavy, solid, hinged storm shutters, with gun ports, just like the pioneers had on their frontier cabins!!!

I wonder how it would hold up if a sapper's water charge was applied.

Better get those hurricane windows, or better yet, don't get a house or apartment at ground level.
