OK. With some of Matthew's money, I went looking for a deal on 5.56 bullets to reload. Didn't find any. Ended up with the following:
Qty 2 civilian production large white star clusters (hand kickers) @ $30.00 each.
(Always pick up whatever pyrotechnics I can find.)
Qty 1 ChiCom 5-pocket magazine pouch with cleaning kit and shoulder strap @ $5.00.
(The most useful AK pouch. Works for either 47 or 74 30-rounders. The complete cleaning kit in the side pouch was a nice surprise.)
Qty 2 USGI 1 quart canteen, cup and cover @ $5.00 each.
(Always useful, especially with canteen cup. One of the canteens was new, the other slightly used with NBC cap. Both nylon covers were excellent with purification tab pouch. Will put these back into stores for issue, if, as and when. Ditto on the AK pouch above.)
Qty 5 Russian 5.45x39 wooden crates and Qty 2 Yugoslav 7.92mm wooden crates (empty) $20.00 total.
(Perfect for repacking M19A1 "thirty cal" ammo cans, 2 per, laying flat, nested on sides.)
Qty 9 M19A1 steel ammo cans ("thirty cals") @ $5.00 each.
(Ammo cans becoming increasingly hard to find, especially the thirty cals. They were all in excellent condition, good seals, no rust. Five bucks per is cheap these days. Other vendor's prices ranged from $8.00 to $10.00. Had to have them -- and the crates -- for future combat packing job. Cleaned the guy out.)
Qty 1 M-14 Bandoleer and cardboards (no strippers or guides) @ $1.00.
(Always a sucker for bandoleers. Pity they only had one.)
Qty 1 USGI Map Case @ $3.00.
(In almost new condition. Couldn't pass it up for $3.00.)

You're a thief!:)
That's a GREAT price on the GI Map Case. I still have mine that I used more than 20 years ago. In fact it's got a patch on the rear of it. I had it slung over the radio antenna or something on my jeep and the rear tire rubbed a hole in it.
Three beans. Great price for a very useful and durable case.

Mike,
When I was stationed at Ft. Campbell I picked up a pallet of .50 cal (M2A1 I believe) cans for $2 each. I'm sure the .30 cal cans would be cheaper.
There were 120 .50 cal cans on the pallet when I bought it.
You should still be able to buy them at the recycling center there

Looks like you made out like a bandit. I love those AK ammo pouches too. I bought a crappy little WASR-10 as a backup weapon and it came with a similar pouch, in great condition.
It's been slim pickings at our local Okla gun shows. For the the good stuff. You have all the luck.
Houston area gun shows and surplus shops are overflowing with ammo cans. Other items displayed are harder to find and none of them available at those prices...
