In Alabama, corruption wins (again). Can Dr. Franklin's Alternative be far behind?

Robert Bentley has defeated Bradley Byrne tonight to win the Alabama GOP nomination for governor. He'll go on to face Democrat Ron Sparks, winner of the June 1 gubernatorial primary.

Paul Hubbert, co-chair of the Alabama Democrat Party, won the GOP gubernatorial primary yesterday and he wasn't even on the ballot. Here is an excellent pre-election summation of the battlefield and the players.

Byrne was the last, best hope of breaking Hubbert's iron grip on Alabama politics. It was vital for the Unofficial Emperor of Alabama to defeat the challenge represented by Bradley Byrne, and he did. No one will dare cross him now.

Now, if pasty-faced Bentley wants to impress the rest of us, he'll tap Byrne for an important post that sets him as a counterweight and continuing threat to Hubbert. But if he doesn't he will have demonstrated that he is just Hubbert's bought-and-paid-for lapdog.

Here is the thing: if elections mean nothing, given the death grip that corruption has on politics here in Alabama, can Dr. Franklin's Alternative (assassination) be far behind?
