They're catching on. Investor's Business Daily asks: "Will Washington's Failures Lead To Second American Revolution?"

Good question. Although I prefer to think of it as the Great Restoration.

Will Washington's Failures Lead To Second American Revolution?

By ERNEST S. CHRISTIAN AND GARY A ROBBINS Posted 07/30/2010 06:30 PM ET

The Internet is a large-scale version of the "Committees of Correspondence" that led to the first American Revolution — and with Washington's failings now so obvious and awful, it may lead to another.

People are asking, "Is the government doing us more harm than good? Should we change what it does and the way it does it?"

Pruning the power of government begins with the imperial presidency.

Too many overreaching laws give the president too much discretion to make too many open-ended rules controlling too many aspects of our lives. There's no end to the harm an out-of-control president can do.

Bill Clinton lowered the culture, moral tone and strength of the nation — and left America vulnerable to attack. When it came, George W. Bush stood up for America, albeit sometimes clumsily.

Barack Obama, however, has pulled off the ultimate switcheroo: He's diminishing America from within — so far, successfully.

He may soon bankrupt us and replace our big merit-based capitalist economy with a small government-directed one of his own design.

He is undermining our constitutional traditions: The rule of law and our Anglo-Saxon concepts of private property hang in the balance. Obama may be the most "consequential" president ever.

The Wall Street Journal's steadfast Dorothy Rabinowitz wrote that Barack Obama is "an alien in the White House."

His bullying and offenses against the economy and job creation are so outrageous that CEOs in the Business Roundtable finally mustered the courage to call him "anti-business." Veteran Democrat Sen. Max Baucus blurted out that Obama is engineering the biggest government-forced "redistribution of income" in history.

Fear and uncertainty stalk the land. Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke says America's financial future is "unusually uncertain."

A Wall Street "fear gauge" based on predicted market volatility is flashing long-term panic. New data on the federal budget confirm that record-setting deficits in the $1.4 trillion range are now endemic.

Obama is building an imperium of public debt and crushing taxes, contrary to George Washington's wise farewell admonition: "cherish public credit ... use it as sparingly as possible ... avoiding likewise the accumulation of debt ... bear in mind, that towards the payment of debts there must be Revenue, that to have Revenue there must be taxes; that no taxes can be devised, which are not ... inconvenient and unpleasant ... ."

Opinion polls suggest that in the November mid-term elections, voters will replace the present Democratic majority in Congress with opposition Republicans — but that will not necessarily stop Obama.

A President Obama intent on achieving his transformative goals despite the disagreement of the American people has powerful weapons within reach. In one hand, he will have a veto pen to stop a new Republican Congress from repealing ObamaCare and the Dodd-Frank takeover of banks.

In the other, he will have a fistful of executive orders, regulations and Obama-made fiats that have the force of law.

Under ObamaCare, he can issue new rules and regulations so insidiously powerful in their effect that higher-priced, lower-quality and rationed health care will quickly become ingrained, leaving a permanent stain.

Under Dodd-Frank, he and his agents will control all credit and financial transactions, rewarding friends and punishing opponents, discriminating on the basis of race, gender and political affiliation. Credit and liquidity may be choked by bureaucracy and politics — and the economy will suffer.

He and the EPA may try to impose by "regulatory" fiats many parts of the cap-and-trade and other climate legislation that failed in the Congress.

And by executive orders and the in terrorem effect of an industry-wide "boot on the neck" policy, he can continue to diminish energy production in the United States.

By the trick of letting current-law tax rates "expire," he can impose a $3.5 trillion 10-year tax increase that damages job-creating capital investment in an economy struggling to recover. And by failing to enforce the law and leaving America's borders open, he can continue to repopulate America with unfortunate illegals whose skill and education levels are low and whose political attitudes are often not congenial to American-style democracy.

A wounded rampaging president can do much damage — and, like Caesar, the evil he does will live long after he leaves office, whenever that may be.

The overgrown, un-pruned power of the presidency to reward, punish and intimidate may now be so overwhelming that his re-election in 2012 is already assured — Chicago-style.

• Christian, an attorney, was a deputy assistant secretary of the Treasury in the Ford administration.

• Robbins, an economist, served at the Treasury Department in the Reagan administration.

"But that will not necessarily stop Obama." Right. Collectivist revolutionaries can only be stopped by countervailing force.

Got militia?

You can tell some people what to do all the time, and you can tell a LOT of people what to do some of the time, but when you try to tell ALL the people what they can do ALL the time, better have your running shoes on.
We are not Washington's idiot children, we are their bosses. More people are starting to see.

Read the article and some of the comments, most of which seamed to be made by people with intelligence.

Things are Gonna Get Worse before they get better, I think we are all well aware of that. Now it appears that some of more well to do are waking up to what is sure to be just around the bend.

This is why I truly believe that they will do(or make it look like someone else did it)something very bad. VERY bad to distract us and draw attention away from them. They already tried with the oil spill. Obviously it did not work and made it only worse for them. So what do you all think? EMP? major terror attack?

Mike, would not a "great restoration" likely take us back to step one in the sequence that brought us to our current state?

What Constitutional flaws need to be fixed to prevent the Hayekian road to serfdom we're on now? Can they be fixed?

I agree with grecoprince, what will they do that is of such catastrophic proportion that it takes everyone's mind off the financial issues. Start WW3? Worked for FDR.
Something about this entire mess in WashDC just leads me to believe they will keep doing what they want, until it finally goes sour, then KAPOW! Instant national emergency. And martial law to the fullest degree. Then they can round up every home grown terrorist they want.

Bit of a conundrum, though: the Obamessiah can get everything he wants without firing a shot; constitutional militias have pretty much said that they won't shoot first.

Triumph Obamessiah.....

There is effectively no check on the Statists.

Oh, hell no.

I carve stamps for fun. Think I'll get to work on some 3prs.

I pray daily we can roll this back without need for mass bloodshed.

Even so, I have no clue how such could be accomplished, and hence figure it just isn't possible.

There's going to be a fight - so let's win.

I agree that SOMETHING huge is coming - but what?

EMP wouldn't help - the entire nation would revert to the 1830s or so, not exactly a boon to central power.

I wonder if he's trying to provoke a domestic showdown -- pushing AZ into open defiance, for example.

REMEMBER: They control education from pre-school to post-doctorate, and *ALL* the media (including "fox"). The truth is what they say it is, and most of the sheeple will fall for it.

As to "how do we fix our Constitution"? SIMPLE. It's already about as PERFECT as it can be. The problems we have aren't due to Constitutional weakness, they're due to (1) power-mad politicians and (2) an overly-comfortable, disconnected citizenry.

If we'd done our job, we wouldn't be here.

99%+ of people can't tell you what the Constitutional limitations on the fed.gov are - or even what the 10th Amendment says. But every damn one of 'em knows who "snooki" is.

God help us -- and God Save Our Republic!!

Another story in IBD says "the top two income-tax rates will rise from 33% and 35% this year to 36% and 39.6% in January. This will affect earned income above about $200,000. It just so happens that the IRS reports that in 2008, a majority of small-business profits paid taxes in these households."
Punishing the surviving moderately successful producers and job creators. More.

I am increasingly concerned about a large lame duck component of congress attempting to ram through all sorts of nastiness in that period between November and January when, hopefully, so many of the worst offenders will be on borrowed time. They will already have lost their cushy positions so that threat will be gone. The only threat left to hold them back from legislation they know the people will not tolerate is the threat of physical violence against their persons once they return home, and some of them still believe that could never happen to the elite such as themselves. If the lame ducks this fall cannot be rendered impotent it could get very ugly indeed.
As for Constitutional flaws, the primary one IMHO is that the founders never conceived of the idea of career politicians. To them is was a duty to serve one or two terms then step down and return to private life. Term limits would go a long way in destroying the attitude of elitism and entitlement rampant in our public servants today.

Why do these authors and most 'conservatives' with whom I speak not make the connection between the above, both Busch administrations, and a RINO congress? What the hell do these people think the PATRIOT act, North American Union and overriding Posse Comatatus represent?

You really believe the gulf gusher was initiated directly by the government????

There ARE other forces independent of direct maliciousness....

I don't believe the Constitution is /was flawed. The people vote into office the pricks that then decided to ignore it and alter it at will.

The Constitution is blameless.
The voting idiots and their enthroned masters are to blame.

About that Gulf oil platform explosion and spill...
If the government didn't order a little "training exercise" there, they certainly had their speeches and paperwork in order, to immediately exploit it to try to put a moratorium on offshore drilling. How neatly it fits into Obama's "clean energy" agenda (which will reduce the mobility and prosperity of the American people totally unnecessarily). I'm not saying they did, though we know there are elements who would consider 20 dead Americans and millions of dollars of equipment destroyed as an interesting tactical exercise. We know them well.
And I've never heard of a similar "accident," though I may have just missed it.
Enough oil in coastal beds and the Arctic to supply us for at least 200 years -- at which time solar and hydrogen power MAY be feasible for the mass market (if any), and bring prices down. But Thou Shalt Not Drill. The caribou, tundra lichen and sea turtles might suffer.

I agree with you 100%. What I meant was that they are "capable" of doing it or "allowing" it to happen(Those evil outsiders running him). They used the spill as an opportunity to use it against us. We all know that the master(wanna be)works for THEM(hah, remember the movie THEM-1954). I am sure you all know what I mean by them! He is just a pawn. When they are finished using(they really did need him to perform their evil tasks)him they will replace him with the one they really wanted in that position in the first place. Then beware! I pray I am wrong.
