Oakland "Only Ones" Blackmail Citizenry

Give us what we want or we won't "protect you." Fine by me. If the cops went on strike around here, encouraging the criminal element, the only result would be fewer career criminals on the street and more in the morgue.

They could stop enforcement of minor traffic violations, too. That would probably free up two-thirds of the force.

Well, Oakland just got a hell of a lot safer!

I find it interesting that this happens so soon after the officer who shot Grant was found guilty...

Exactly.

Oakland hasn't changed in ~25 years since I lived in the area - still dangerous, still full of murderous thugs, still among the best places to catch a *HUGE* hassle for a minor infraction.

Ever notice how - when budgets get tight - the Pols never cut their own staff or turn off their own A/C, instead immediately cutting cops/fire/etc - things to scare the citizens?

How could this be any more obvious?

I suspect a lot of people in Oakland would like the po-po to go right on not protecting them.

Sounds like some of the DoD budget games when Congress wants cuts. Threaten to cut the 82nd airborne division or a major combat unit based in a key district. Funding miraculously appears at the last minute to save the unit...

As for the Oakland PD, good riddance. Just let the citizens defend themselves and stop the police harrassment / theft from the citizens from revenue enhancement schemes (e.g. parking enforcement, speed traps, etc)

Humph! For the fairly careful, self-sufficient CITIZEN (as opposed to dependent serf), lack of police shouldn't be a problem.
The bad guys (behind a badge, or not) have guns. We have guns.

'Nuff said.

I knew I should have donated to the guy on the phone collecting for the policemen's fund.

We've always been on our own. The obliviots have always failed to realize this fact, and have always claimed "police protection" as though it actually existed, as though it was a human right.

Well, maybe if the city shakes this tree hard enough, a few obliviots will fall out of it, land on their heads, and the hard vacuum between their ears will suck some reality through the crack.

We might even get a threeper or two out of it.

Less officers to shoot you in the back while you lie on the ground handcuffed because they do not like what you are saying?

OK. I can live with that - literally.

Luckily, law abiding Kalifornians have worked hard for all of these years to protect their Second Amendment right, so I'm sure they'll be prepared.
I couldn't happen to a nicer city.

Myself, I believe this is scare tactics and the city will at the last minute pull the money out of their ... programs for the poor and needy. Transit that working people depend on. Employment programs. Things beneath the notice of the Powers That Be. They NEED their paramilitary soldier tax collectors.

I recommend:
1) that the good citizens of Oakland read up on the California statutes that deal with the justified use of force and/or deadly force.

2) In the event they find it necessary to utilize any degree of force, up to and including deadly force, they should make no oral, and surely NOT written, statements to the police if and/or when the police show up.

3) Only weapons in the possession of the dead bad guy should be available for confiscation at the scene.

4) If you're right, you're right. Don't allow anyone to convince you to talk your way into jail or make it easy for a LEO or prosecutor to make an "attaboy" out of you.

The Oakland Police won't assist you with burglary, theft, embezzlement, or grand theft. But they will prosecute you if you defend your property by shooting a robber.

They won't assist you if somebody else trespasses and dumps junk on your property, unless the waste has the possibility of a big EPA liability judgement, then they'll come running to get their piece of your assets.

They won't assist you to catch a thief who possesses forged notes, passes fictitious checks, or obtains money by a false voucher. But they will bust you if you found a marketplace, bank, or stock exchange with security based on anonymity and privacy of transactions, so that one transaction's details like "credit card number" can't be reused to steal things.

They won't help you find the thief who stole your license plate, but they'll still bust you for not having a plate, registration, accurate photo, or home address.

They won't help you if some private person attempts to extort you, or if you give false information to make some deadbeat go away. If the extortionist is is wearing a badge, however, cough it up or they'll drag you off to jail.

They won't help you if you're the victim of identity theft or false personification of other. However if you change your name or use an alias without intent to defraud, you're toast.

They won't help you if somebody else messes with your public utility service. But if you help yourself by building a competing and unregulated telephone, cell phone, cable TV, post office, Internet, fresh water, sewer, paving, or trash collection service and selling such service for profit, why it's off to prison for you.

They won't help you catch or punish vandals. They will punish you if you catch vandals yourself, or put up an effective tall fence with sharp pointy things on top.

I'm sure they completely forgot to mention they will still punish you for: Peacefully carrying a concealed handgun without a license, or in a prohibited location. Selling weapons commercially without background checks. Manufacturing weapons or propellants. Manufacturing, buying or selling prohibited drugs, the prosecution of which could produce asset forfeiture or matching federal money to the drug war or the prison-industrial complex.

These aren't "peace officers", these are mafia enforcers. Their goal is to eliminate all your defenses against the gang of organized criminals who employ them. This gang calls themselves the "voters".

Time for the people of Oakland to start forming commandos.

But something tells me that if they did, the cops would suddenly find themselves ready and willing to "enforce the law" once again.
