This from David Codrea's recent Examiner column.
David's comment:
I know many of you will focus on the "M-4," but another question might be why are IOIs, compliance/paperwork inspectors who do not carry firearms in the course of their duties, receiving firearms training in the first place?
Indeed. One might also wonder what would have happened in the Red's Trading Post fiasco if the out-of-control IOI's had been armed and with a mere sketchy bit of training.
Which begs another question: What is it that the ATF knows that we don't? Why are they getting ready to put firearms in the hands of ALL of their employees, including the clerks, cooks and bakers? It would seem that this is the ATF equivalent of the Volkssturm, Hitler's last ditch force multiplier of very old men and young boys and girls.
"Here, Patty, take this M-4 and go arrest that gun criminal."
Like I said, what do they know that we don't?
That they are going to be going to war soon against the armed citizenry of this country?

Calling an 870 an M4 is indicative of the vast knowledge retained by the BATFE
Not a pleasant thought...
My German is rusty but the phrase that I would apply would be 'Cannon fodder".

Hi Mike,
I have the feeling that there is more to this and we are missing something. There has to be more than just the two parties imploding and pushing this all down on us. If not and this is all that it is: That there is just laziness, greed, corruption, and lust for power, then to hell with them!

It makes you stop and think.
They might've been refering to a Beneli M4 as opposed to an AR. But it doesn't look like a beneli to me...
Of course - that photo of the LOLs does seem to me to cry out for a caption contest!
Suggestions...
1. OK, let's say that silhouette target is Vicki Weaver... you think I can get her AND the baby with one shot? As good as the FBI?
2. Wait - that's fecal matter on the barrel. Has Barney Frank been here again?
If they are going to go after armed law abiding citizens, they are going to have to find support from somewhere. I am an FBI agent and there are many like me. I will not obey orders to disarm our citizens. No law abiding citizen has anything to fear from me. I am a true Threeper. I will never register my guns. That only lets them know where to go when they want to take them. I will never surrender my guns. If they try to take them, they will all come complete with empty magazines. However, they will require cleaning.
I know this obvious to most of us.....but that isn't an M-4. Looks to me to be a 12 guage. Maybe a remington 870.
If I am not mistaken many government "office" employees go through that training from time to time short of postal workers, janitors, and the like.
If you think about it, this is actually a good thing. Assuming all federal employees receive similar training, they are actually in line before the citizen militia to defend the country, since that is an enumerated power of the federal government. That means our government will become much more cost effective as time goes on should we ever face China or Russia on home soil. Fewer net tax consumers means less debt and fewer cogs in the big machine. Not that I ever wish ill of my fellow Americans, especially my employees. But pragmatically, I don't see a down side to this. Either a huge false sense of security for federal agencies or more time for us depending on the situation. Just sayin'.
Attn DB:
Maybe they figure postal workers already know how to field strip an AK and clear a stovepiped 9mm and they don't need extra training.
It makes you stop and ask yourself what are they up to.
Unless it's a Benelli M4 Tactical shotgun.
It makes you stop and ask yourself what are they up to.
My guess is that they are going to keep a few weapons in the office for protection of the personnel there as they are expecting things to get ugly. The weapon chosen and the people being trained seem to fit that scenario better than any type of offensive purpose. Of course, that frees up personnel normally used for security of facilities to be used for more offensive purposes.
And the shooter isn't even holding it adequately. Do they really think we're intimidated?

I don't know what the hell that thing is, but it doesn't look anything like my Benelli M4...

Weather these are Bennelli's or Rem. both are exelent firearms and now I know where to Pick the Bones, wander how much Ammo they keep stored in there Offices.
Calling an 870 an M4 is indicative of a lack of knowledge by a clueless journalist who failed to properly fact-check compounded by an editor who failed to catch the bad caption.
It looks to me that these Fed's are in dire need of Obama's health care. Seriously, they need to lose some weight.
nderpaid ass says to do it or be terminated . Kinda funny like the shotguns issued potentially to the IRS it is all wishfull thinking!

I am tipping a J/D to you sir. That should have been the first thing everyone noticed regardless of what model the weapon is.
Firearm instructor Peter Wagner is a disgrace to be standing there and smiling like the moron he is. It is not a frikkin toy ... it is a tool and should be used properly and treated with respect.
And what do they know that we don't? They don't. It is written all over the walls like a big giant neon light.
In a resigned sort of way, I wish the collectivists would just hurry up and get this on with one cataclysmic, dramatic and show-your-true-colors push.
'Course, they're smarter than that. They can take us out one at a time, or nine at a time, until there is no will to resist. They can, will, and are winning the propaganda war.
Each time, each brother who falls will be painted as a loon and a psychopath who got his/their just reward.
Just thinking.

Aside from the correct weaponry and
handling issues...
I echo what jeffohio said. Didja see how fat they all are?
I wonder if they could keep up with a slim and fit old guy?
I better not say any more, if I continued I would make them cry...
T.Rex - I heard a headbanger song a while back that describes them:
"Du Hast Nicht"
I'll see their desk jockeys and raise them a bunch of old codgers. Hit me!
That's an M4 w/o the rail. I figure they are just assigned to hold them for me until I decide I want them :)
Relax, dog and pony shows for the non-badge and gun crowd are quite common.
Perhaps they're training for the day when the CCW crowd finds out that the BATFE routinely cross references their (state) CCW license numbers to 4473's (and firearms purchased) during FFL inspections. The BATFE end up with a list of people serious about self defense along with a list of what they purchased...
Now what good could come out of that database?
