Thoughts on the 19 April Rules of Non-Engagement

Mike sets the stage; go read if you haven't already.

Some additional grace notes:

1) The Elephant: Look -- no one wants to get shot, and no one wants to have a non-functioning rifle (even temporarily) if there is a likelihood of being shot.

There are Bad People in the world.

Some of those Bad People wants Bad Things to happen to citizens who have the temerity to openly, publicly, and legally exercise basic human rights in public.

So yes, it is possible that Bad People -- of whatever persuasion -- could do Bad Things on April 19th.

But do you remember this picture?

Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, May 4, 1970.

67 rounds fired from the Ohio National Guard's Garands.

13 seconds.

4 students dead.

9 students wounded.

No NatGuard casualties.

Ask somebody who was around forty years ago about the effect that the Kent State shootings had on American politics of the day.

Then ask them what would have been different about those consequences if there had been a return volley from the Kent State students that day.

Without question, the world-changing propaganda coup handed to the anti-war forces that day by the Ohio Guardsmen would not have occurred.

Transition now to modern day.

I will be using a chamber flag on April 19th.

My rifle will be unloaded and slung, with its muzzle pointed at the ground.

My sidearm will be in its holster.

Every time one of the state security agents look at me through their camera lenses and through their riflescopes, that chamber flag will be in place, showing the world that my rifle is slung and unloaded with a demonstrably empty chamber.

I want the British, Swiss, and Russian television crews who will be covering the April 19th events to show their viewers that chamber flag, as well.

If a Bad Person -- no matter of what affiliation -- should take a shot at me, I want them to be shooting at a permitted human-rights demonstrator who is legally carrying a sidearm and a slung, demonstrably unloaded rifle.

If that shot should hit me, I want my freedom-loving brothers and sisters to use their digital still and video cameras to record that my pistol was still in its holster and my rifle was slung and unloaded when I was shot.

And I want those stills and that video to be on the 'Net -- and beyond the reach of the American state security forces -- within minutes of the shooting.

Those memory chips with those photos and vids will be the most important pieces of storage media on the face of the earth on April 19th.

And they will change the world -- just as the Kent State photos did forty years before.

That's why I will be using a chamber flag on April 19th.

And that's why I urge you to do the same.

2) Common decency: There is an even simpler reason to use a chamber flag on 19 April at the RTC event:

The organizers have asked you to do so.

If you want to hold your own freedom event with your own set of ROEs, you are perfectly welcome to do so.

But at this event -- our event -- civilized men and women will abide by the rules of non-engagement agreed amongst the planners.

Nothing more.

And nothing less.

3) Basic Weapons Handling Skills: Is it even possible that someone's basic weapons handling skills could be so deficient that they could not clear their rifle of the chamber flag and proceed if they were legally, morally, and factually justified to do so?

Sadly, I guess it is possible.

For anyone in that category, I suggest some basic weapons familiarization skill drills this weekend and next.

See you on April 19th on the banks of the Potomac -- armed or unarmed.

Very good thoughts. We can't give the media spin artists anything to work with.

I got my BA and PhD at Kent State in the 80's and 90's and walked past the site of the shootings nearly every day. Here's what I learned from studying "May 4th" as it is referred to at KSU: The number one priority of the government is to make sure it is still the government tomorrow, even if it means killing its own citizens. And every day since I came to this realization I thank God for the 2nd Amendment.

PLEASE!
Ladies and Gentlemrn Patriots All, Please use the chamber flags,by all means go well armed and prepaired for ANY event but we MUST maintain a Higher Value of Personal Responcability. Any A.D.(accedental discharge)or Any Other type of incedent provoked by us will only hurt Our cause,LET THEM MAKE THE FIRST ERROR.A chamber flag only take maybe a half second to clear and there for it would be of NO TACTICAL DISAVANTAGE to use one and to many Political Advantages to list hear.
And as far as to the idea that having unloaded wepons at this event is not enough to insill FEAR in to the Hearts of the Lib./Prog./Socialist is not knowing your ENEMY for they will tremble and their sleep will be filled with horible dreams why do you think the Mainsteam media is so set against us.

All good points and well said. From our opponents' point of view, the worst possible outcome would be if there were no instances of unsafe behavior, the rally attendees were cordial to the police and civil to any agitators, nobody gave the collectivist establishment media anything they could use to further their agenda, and everybody who showed up obviously had a great time. This is a great opportunity to show the collectivist politicians and their pet media talking heads for the lying, paranoid, bigoted fascists they are.

I said it in the thread below this one and I will day it again.

I'm going to agree with a couple others here. Chamber flags will show TBTP that we are less ready than we need to be to defend ourselves on that day, and in the future.

Some of those at Kent State were carrying flowers on the day they were murdered. This did not stop them from being killed or wounded.

I am sure that the Federal Police and LEO's that will be surrounding those that gather on April 19th will not have chamber flags in their rifles.

If it is being anticipated by the organizers of this rally that those that will be gathering on that day cannot be trusted to conduct themselves in a responsible manner, it doesn't bode well for Patriots and 3%ers in any future civil war. Maybe we should just carry flowers that day. They won't make us any less dead should TPTB start shooting.

Mike, if I am to believe that it is your or Dan's intention to "placate" the powers that be with this action, which we have been shown many times in recent history does not work in the face of tyranny, I just lost a little faith in this effort to let TPTB know that we indeed intend to protect what is left of our Constitution and Republic, should we be forced to do so.

We have backed up grumbling many times before, to use your own words, Mike.

Prove to me this is not so; not this time. More importantly, show the world.

I was almost 2 when that happened, but I sure hope I don't live to see something like that happen again.

I will not be able to attend, but if something like this should ever happen again at some point in time, will we all know what to do? Might be a good topic for a future post.

Great job Mike. Video cameras need to be at the ready and on all the time, not after something happens people. I've seen it too many times at anti-illegal alien rallies. People have them hanging off their necks, then when something happens they turn them on and miss the whole thing.

AT THE READY AND ON PEOPLE! YOU CAN ALWAYS ERASE THE TAPE LATER!!

How long does it take to rip one of those bad boys out of your chamber?

I see what you are saying, and I agree on all but the third point. No one I know practices pulling a chamber flag before loading and shooting, not to mention the fact that if a shoot out dose breakout, then it will be more stress than 90%+ of the people their have ever experienced. I could totally understand fucking up and not pulling a chamber flag under those circumstances.

Mike -

Your leadership is stellar! Lesser people might give up the high ground - understandable, given the infringements we've suffered - but a big mistake nonetheless. I hope others are stopping to savor your wisdom and fortitude in this battle.

My prayers will travel with you...

"Which response to state instigated violence made the bigger impact-

Lexington and concord are remembered here and made the impact they did because our side won. Had the day gone against us, say, if the British had been able to call in overwhelming reinforcements to deal with a relatively small colonial force, and had that force been trapped with their backs against the river (have you LOOKED at the layout of Gravelly Point?), April 19th would be of interest only to historians.

We're not going to the river daring the government to strike. We're demonstrating that we value our right to be peaceably armed in public, and that being armed is not a sign that we're spoiling for a fight.

I, for one, will have a chamber flag....and I might just tuck a carnation in the ejection port, as well.

Along with video and cell cameras, I would suggest having some loyal local folk fan out and take some pictures of the fed rally points for their "quick response" teams that are itching to deal out some "only one" justice to the folks that they have been convinced are threats to the status quo.

I would also suggest moment by moment blogging/tweeting to properly document the events of the day. Redundancy in reporting is another good idea.

Don't underestimate the importance of the event to either side. "They" see this as a potential decapitation opportunity and a treasure trove of intel. "We" can gather a wealth of intel as well. Full names and unit info of the masked mall ninjas as well as the chain of command should be gathered when possible. All of the "fusion centers" should be very busy once the license tag numbers are disseminated, be sure to get some 8X10 glossies of those picture takers as well.

I see where you're coming from with the chamber flags, but frankly, by the time the intent snakes its way through the MSM filter for the final consumption by the hoplophobic, brain-dead, believe-anything sheep, those chamber flags will have become custom, large black assault rifle adapters allowing the use of nuclear-tipped cop-killing child-slayer heat-seeking anti-government-point rounds that can only be purchased by card-carrying extremists at the extremism shop anyway, or some such thing.

Why put yourself at any tactical disadvantage in the hope of showing how far we are willing to go to emanate no intent of unilateral violence, when it's for an audience this far gone anyway? An audience that would have warmly applauded the offing of Ghandi had they been so conditioned?

I'll be there with a bright red chamber block ONLY out of respect for the organizers' wishes, even though I think it's a futile effort to try to reflect our controlled, righteous indignation, versus any hint of hostility and rage to Joe Six-pack on the couch.

67 rounds in 13 seconds from our fellow citizens wielding Garand rifles tells me that at least 9 oath breakers were willing to murder their fellow Americans that day, and none of those uniformed scoundrels was willing to shoot his fellow guardsmen to stop them from committing mass murder.

Just an observation on the criticisms of this--they seem to be coming from those who will not be attending.

So unless I'm interpreting things wrong, people who are risking nothing are telling people who are risking something they aren't risking enough.

I'm just wondering when one of the critics is going to step forward and show--not tell--the rest of us how it's supposed to be done.

The statist left is already "soiling" themselves over this event, even if we show with "airsoft"!
I'll have no issue with chamber flags available @ www.sinclairintl.com/product/5714/safety-flags and www.sinclairintl.com/8206/safety-flags.
Look forward to seeing all on the 19th.

At the risk of being a "prag", some practical thoughts come to mind.

If you feel you are unable to clear a chamber flag under stress you have no business going anywhere with a weapon and ammunition.

This will be a gathering of strangers. There is no way to gauge the intent of any individual, their ability with basic firearm handling practices, or the condition of their weapon. If flags are good enough for Camp Perry...

The discharge issue, accidental or otherwise cannot be overstated. It would be way too easy for a troublemaker to be in the crowd and cause mischief. The absence of a flag or an unexplained removal of a flag might help pick the chaff out of the wheat.

With regard to cameras, a ring of surveillance cameras directed inward on the crowd with continuous recording would provide plenty of forensic evidence in the event something untoward takes place.

Well David, I don't have the wherewithal to go, but if I did I realize I am not welcome. I never impose on anybody who wishes to avoid my company.

I have a great appreciation for the risks and just plain hard work and expenditure of those who will attend. I just think they are sending the wrong message. I don't doubt their fervor, nor their patriotism. I do doubt the effectiveness of demonstrating willingness to comply with strictures not incorporated in law, but are just a wish list for people who have already abused us and wait breathlessly for the opportunity to do so again.

I could write on this all day, but I won't. I'll just wait for the shoe to drop. Then do what I must as my duty.

Huh. Open-carry with chamber flags.

It sounds like the ultimate in political correctness.

Bravo, brave Patriots.

Up yours, Danelle.

You stay-at-home pogue.

Justin said...

Once again, I totally agree with the chamber flags.

(Even though I too am a "stay at home pogue". Anyone willing to front the cost of round trip Alaska to DC tix? Didn't think so..)

I sorely wish I could attend. Far be it from me to dictate to those attendees how to act. My earlier (Kent State Vs. Lexington) comments were only to express my hope that my brothers who go do not allow themselves to be gunned down like dogs, as happened at Kent State. I wasn't insinuating provoking the authorities (as Timnota drew from my post), only advocating righteous self defense, if necessary.

Be safe, brothers. I think even a worthless "stay at home pogue" such as myself can safely voice that wish.

Any live internet feeds set up from the event? Is there any provision for real-time coverage from non-state sources? Us "stay at home pogues" have to do something all day on the 19th, especially those of us who can't make the 4,000 mile trip. If the shoe drops, know this: I'll be there, even if I have to walk. How's that for "pogue-ish"

Justin:

Look again at my nasty comment.

It was expressly (and only) directed at the troll Danelle.

No one expects you to come all the way from AK to DC for a demonstration.

As you have noted in prior posts, your place is with your family and fellow Alaskans, holding the Northern Front.

Please do not take offense where none was intended.

Plan from my end is to have a VZW MyFi cellular wifi node hot at Fort Hunt. That will enable (slow) broadband wifi access for 5 separate IP addresses. I am hoping that someone else will have a similar rig to deploy at Gravelly.

Those who are willing to live-blog can do so through those hubs, as well as can anyone else who has a cellular data plan.

No harm, no foul, I hope, my brother.

What is wrong with shooting communist terrorists and traitors?

Justin said...

Concerned American-

Apologies on my end. I read into it too much. It was that and an unhealthy dose of self-imposed guilt over not being there (I must admit to feeling like a pogue/remf while others are doing the lifting)! ;-)

CA, any harm or foul lies completely at my feet, your comments as intended and directed were just, mine were not.

Keep it up, and continue to blast away at those who would not attend yet would cast criticism at those who are going.

And, for goodness' sake, be careful. The statists would love to turn this ugly, and Google Earth shows options in that area to be very limited, as I think another poster here or @ WRSA has already mentioned.

And, BTW Danelle, taking the step of using flags takes a far sight more courage than going locked and loaded. You have got to think PR here, in addition to tactics/SHTF worst case scenarios. The state is VERY good at psyops, this simple step and statement could make all the difference in the world. So I will repeat Danelle's words, but sincerely:

"Bravo, brave patriots." I, however, mean it. Doing the right thing takes more courage than doing the easy thing.

Federale:

As you posted at WRSA in defense of the murders of unarmed students by the ONG, I will reprint my comments to you here:

Federale:

So because brave men were still fighting Communists in a war that the SecDef had decided five years earlier could not be won without jeopardizing the President's socialist domestic policies (read the Pentagon Papers), that fact justified the ONG in murdering and maiming unarmed young people?

You are a filthy maggot.

The subsequent abandonment of our anti-Communist allies in SE Asia, resulting in the Communist victories of 1975, can be laid largely at the trigger fingers of the ONG at Kent State, whose illegal and homicidal actions were assigned to and discredited all American anti-Communists.

Nice work, fellas.

I am sure the millions of human beings murdered and maimed in Cambodia, Laos, and SVN by the victorious Communists are eternally grateful to the ONG and their brave stand for freedom at Kent State.
