These Scheißekopfs (s--theads) have it exactly backwards... the militarized police state is the cause of an ever-growing armed citizenry in general, and citizen militias in particular. These fools apparently have no knowledge of the Waco Massacre, because if they did they would understand the dynamic that brings people to become active militia.
All you collectivists, keep shooting off your mouth, and I'll keep reloading. New rules apply.
William is correct..in the 80s and 90s cops started to replace their shotguns with ARs ... its an arms race basically between the gov't and its own people. People want to be able to protect themselves against gov't officials.
I left this comment: ---------------- In my opinion, McGillis' argument is not so easily dismissed - provided one grants that police are needed at all, which I don't. Those who do, are going to have a problem countering it.
"The police work for us--they are our employees."
There's your problem, Kurt, a poor fix on reality. Police actually work for themselves and for their bosses in the ruling class. Wishing it were otherwise, or "proving" it by citing state propaganda, does not make it so.
"...we need only muster the will to tell them that if the job of "protecting and serving" a free people without indulging their Rambo fantasies is too scary for them, they'd best find another line of work."
This reeks of collectivism. There is no such "we" who can threaten to fire cops this way. What you are really suggesting is begging the ruling class to tell cops to play nice - the very ruling class for whom the cops are already working. What incentive does the ruling class have to change their tune? None.

Ya, b/c if the police had a monopoly of force, they'd surely react more civilly to protests pointing out their corruption.
