Obviously none of these wise learned church leaders have ever read Jesus' stand on self defense. Luke 22:36 "...he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one." So in a day and time when a man was considered well-off to have 2 garments, Jesus said to sell the only garment you have and buy a sword (which by the way was the exact assault weapon the Romans had.) To bring it up to date, this would be like saying "If you don't have a full auto M-16, sell your only car and buy the M-16." 'Course you can't do that because we're not even as free as the Jews were under Roman occupation. Funny ain't it ?
Not being a Christian this has less influence for me, but I do seem to remember Jesus admonishing is followers to "sell their coats and buy a sword".......
Why should anyone care what the Bible says about self defense or anything else, for that matter. The Bible is simply a bunch of early writers' works approved by the early Catholic Church, which was then and is now mostly interested in preserving their own power. Examples: The Inquisition The recent efforts to cover up the sexual crimes of Catholic priests.
Jesus wasn't a member of the NRA? So, what? Neither were the founding fathers. Anyways, what has that got to do with my basic, indisputable, human right of self defense?
Some of you will be singing a different tune one of these days when either me or one of my armed Catholic brothers comes along and saves your sorry ass. We are not the enemy.

They were certainly happy to stand around while blood was being she'd in Germany. Look where it got them...

Using God against your target as a convenient weapon of the moment although you really don't believe in him, nor do your fellow travellers.
Use everything, leave nothing.
