I'm just glad the shot didn't hit anyone. It is extremely rare that a gun fires unless your finger is on the trigger. Jeff Cooper's fourth rule of gun safety is:
"Don't touch the trigger until the muzzle is pointed toward a properly-identified target which you intend to shoot."
In my opinion there's no such thing as an accidental discharge unless the gun itself malfunctions. Even then, if the muzzle is pointed in a safe direction, no one is harmed.
