"Free the ATF From the Gun Lobby" so they can ruin more lives, kill more innocent citizens and smuggle more Kalashnikovs south of the border to further the gun confiscation wet dreams of collectivist "intellectuals" like Adam Winkler.

There's a reason they call the website where Winkler writes "The Daily Beast."

The Daily Beast is a party organ.

What a crock of BS!
Of course, considering the source, it's no surprise.

Is this the same Adam Winkler that did "The Secret History of Guns" for The Atlantic?

That's quite a change of tone there.

Sounds like another candidate for a Julius Streicher award.

Here was my response to \"The Daily Beast":

The ATF receives "only marginally more than they did in 2000 adjusted for inflation". How is that an issue? So what you're saying is that their budget is MUCH higher in nominal dollars and has even managed to increase in real terms. I see that as the problem in Washington. The never-ending demand for more spending.

Until recently, the ATF was not even a law enforcement agency, but rather mere "tax collectors". That is a fact. They spent almost their entire inglorious history as members of the Department of the Treasury. Why? Because the National Firearms Act of 1934 that expanded their role to include firearms was simply to ensure that those Americans who wished to purchase fully-automatic weapons, supressors (what the uniformed call "silencers") and other firearms paid a $200 "Transfer Tax" on the weapon in question. That is all. People were not prosecuted for having a dreaded machine gun, but for not PAYING TAX on it.

Another out of control, unconstitutional government agency that cries for more of our tax dollars. This is the same group of people who PURPOSELY allowed firearms to be bought with the knowledge that they would be brought across the border to Mexico to enter the "Drug War" pipeline and thus create a demand for more government-sponsored gun control. This "Operation Fast and the Furious" is a far bigger scandal than Watergate ever was, and resulted in the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, yet nobody in the current administration has been held to account for this atrocity.

More funding? Shut these people down- NOW.

The fucking balls on this guy to call for a national database for political undesirables after the events of the past few weeks.
