Kit Lange, Washington state firearm rights activist, asks the pertinent question: Bill Drafted to Repeal 594, But Will WA Gun Rights Groups Back It?

Since the passing of I-594 in Washington State last November, there has been a growing divide between patriots and gun rights groups. The gun groups have cautioned folks not to defy the law, calling for legislators to stand up and repeal it. Rep. Matt Shea has confirmed a completed draft to repeal I-594 in its entirety, but we’ll get to that in a moment. In an article published just before the I Will Not Comply rally in December, Adina Hicks dismissed the rally and the patriots that chose to defy the law. . .

“What we need is action. What we need is people contacting their legislators and getting the Legislature involved to fix the nightmare that is 594.”

I’m glad that Ms. Hicks brought that up. You see, Rep. Matt Shea has confirmed to me that he has drafted a bill that will repeal I-594 in its entirety. In other words, everything that WAFLAG, Alan Gottlieb’s Second Amendment Foundation, and a list of other gun rights groups have been claiming they wanted is right here.

The real question is whether they’ll support a bill that repeals every single word of I-594. While Adina Hicks is on record as being anti-background checks, we all know that Alan Gottlieb loves them; even going so far as to support the Manchin-Toomey Agreement—which, by the way, was a lot like I-594 in that it forced universal background checks. And what about the rest of the gun rights groups jumping on the WAFLAG/SAF bandwagon for the so-called “Rally for Your Rights”, where you’re asked to leave your long guns at home so you don’t scare anyone? Will they be standing for liberty and supporting Rep. Shea’s bill? Or will they feed us yet another round of mealy-mouthed excuses why they don’t have the stones to stand up?

And for those of you who take exception to our characterization of Gottlieb as fundamentally dishonest, try this trip down memory lane:

Gun control pulls everyone's trigger, and Gottlieb is usually happy to be the media bull's-eye. But he wasn't so fond of that role in the 1980s, when some of his own employees turned on him. In a lawsuit, they claimed he was wrongly using SAF funds for his personal benefit, and tried to wrest control of the nonprofit. (The disagreement even came to blows in 1984, when police were called to break up a scuffle between Gottlieb family members—his wife is also an SAF employee—and the rebelling workers.)In a drawn-out court fight, Gottlieb countersued and ultimately prevailed: A judge dismissed the employees' suit and stuck them with $30,000 in damages. A contented Gottlieb said he used the money to buy himself a black Corvette. Adding to the spectacle, Gottlieb at the time had just finished serving a year-and-a-day prison term related to a tax-evasion investigation. He pled guilty to a federal charge of failing to pay a $29,396 tax debt (with penalties and interest) on his personal income five years earlier. As a convicted felon, the man who advocated unrestricted gun ownership couldn't own a gun. But as an ex-con (he did his time in a Spokane work-release facility), Gottlieb discovered a little-known program administered by the bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. It allowed him to regain his gun rights in 1985, after an ATF review concluded he was a worthy nonviolent offender.

• End all open carry laws and outlaw all automatic weapons.

• After a universal background check, allow adults over 21 to own 1 "manual" gun that is kept in their home.

• Have a hefty bullet tax. Surely those owning guns for self-defense don't need cases of ammo for the rare intruder. Use bullet tax revenues to treat victims of gun violence and educate the public about gun safety.

You know, for an otherwise apparently bright boy, Nick Desai has got to be the dumbest collectivist sonofabitch around as well as totally ignorant of the Law of Unintended Consequences.

Dear Mr. Desai,

I have read your demand for citizen disarmament at the Huffington Post and I must conclude that you should stick to electrical engineering, for we'll all live longer. You are a bit hazy on just how you hope to accomplish this unconstitutional theft of your fellow citizens' liberty and property. Presumably you believe that issuing a diktat will make it so. Had you been paying attention to the armed civil disobedience of recent state laws in places like Connecticut, Colorado, New York and Washington state, you might want to rethink that. It is obvious in any case that you believe that your brave new utopia is worth the deaths of all of us -- and our families -- who would resist it by force of arms in legitimate self-defense of our God-given and inalienable rights. No matter.

This is to inform you that your proposal for bloody civil war is regrettable, but acceptable. Just be sure to have the courage of your convictions and come yourself along with the first raid party.

Or, and this is infinitely preferable to the rest of us who just wish to be left alone by tyrannical government -- and that naked force which would be necessary to enforce your "benevolent" proposal is nothing less than tyrannical -- you might want to reconsider it and stick to what you know. As the Chinese caution, be careful what you wish for YOU may get it.

Chaffetz renews Holder ‘Fast and Furious’ subpoena

The renewal shows the committee is resolved to continue to pursue all legal avenues to compel production of documents. Of equal certainty is that Holder and the Department of Justice will continue to resist further releases beyond a December “document dump,” relying on claims of executive privilege and the slowness of court processes. Unknown at this time is whether potential Holder replacement Loretta Lynch will continue with that resistance if her nomination is confirmed. Also unknown is how much of a focus the Senate Judiciary Committee will place on that in her hearings, particularly now that the Republican membership advantage has been increased, and Chuck Grassley, who made Fast and Furious a priority as Ranking Member, is the new Chairman.

Gunmen Kill At Least 12 In ‘Terrorist Attack’ At French Satirical Newspaper

Some quick observations based on initial reports (a dangerous thing but . . .) --

No "lone wolf attack," this represents a sleeper cell of some organization, likely Islamic State, but who knows? The torching of a thousand cars by "disaffected Muslim youth" in the Casbah quarters of Paris last week demonstrate that they have a large pond for such little guerrilla fish to hide in. The clean sweep of the intended target -- an editorial meeting of a satiric magazine -- hit from the outside through large plate-glass windows along with the two cops (the editor was given a security detail based on past threats) indicates excellent intelligence (a Muslim cleaning woman?) and careful planning. Also, the fact that they got away in the CCTV capitol of Europe says a lot about their planning or a huge slice of dumb luck, perhaps both. The shot groups as evidenced on cars and buildings are tight, and the sound of the shots on the one bit of video that has been released indicate aimed, semi-automatic fire. These guys spent more than a little time training somewhere. The target was no accident, these religious collectivists understand the value of suppressing by example a free press.

It will be interesting to see in coming days what other lessons are learned, but you can bet that one day, American sleeper cells will be doing the same thing here. And the administration won't be able to say it's all just "workplace violence."

Oh, yeah, and that Paris "gun free zone" sure is working out well, wouldn't you say?

With the press of other business, I tried to ignore this Daily Mail headline the other day: "'Black Brunch' demonstrators storm New York and California restaurants as part of plan to 'target white spaces' in protest over 'police violence.'"

Now we have from the same folks: "The Importance of Black Spaces for Black People." Okay, so let me see if I've got this right. White folks are supposed to give up their "spaces" for black folks and black folks are entitled to their own "spaces" free from white folks?

Jason Chaffetz reissues Holder subpoenas on Fast and Furious.

Today, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz renewed a subpoena to compel U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to produce documents related to Operation Fast and Furious. The subpoena is identical to the Committee’s October 12, 2011, and January 3, 2013 subpoenas and is currently the subject of litigation between the Committee and the Justice Department.

Committee subpoenas expire at the end of every Congress. Subpoenas that have not been resolved or are otherwise outstanding—including subpoenas that are the subject of ongoing litigation—must be re-issued by the Chairman at the beginning of a new Congress.

With the FBI-blackmailed (according to my sources) Boehner still in control of the House, I am deeply skeptical that this will go where it needs to go -- to the Fibbies and their use of the Miramontes brothers as the tax-paid middlemen who got the weapons across the border in facilitation of the federal conspiracy originally hatched in the White House and run by Kevin O'Reilly out of the National Security Council.
