More trouble for B. Toad Jones

ATF revitalization plans face opposition

Praxis: Reloading and Packaging

Meet the mule I went to see.
Some years ago I bought half-interest in a Dillon RL1050. Recently we moved it to a new location where we could get some more use out of it. We have been gathering components for some months to run .45 ACPs. With the help of a few readers who contributed some of those components that they had extra, we have made two runs now in the past couple of weeks. Today we ran 500 Hornady 200 grain XTPs, 500 230 grain lead round nose and 500 225 grain lead truncated cones. We could have run more, but we ran out of projectiles. The next run will happen after we cast more. We began a little after ten in the morning and were finished shortly after two in the afternoon. Here's what they looked like and how I packaged mine.
First we ran the 200 Grain Hornady XTPs. We used a 5.7 grain charge of HP-38. You will note that they are packed in used boxes scrounged from range trash cans. Acquistion cost: zero.
We ran labels to remark them. Each indicates the caliber, bullet type, powder type and powder charge with the date of packaging. They are also marked "Coosa Mountain Ordnance" and "III". The labels are placed on both ends of the boxes so there can be no mistake about the caliber or provenance. It is convenient that most ammo manufacturers use the same size boxes for .45, 10mm and .40 (there are even some who use the same for 9mm), so there is no shortage of packaging available.
Above are some of the 230 grain lead round nose reloads.
Here are the 225 grain truncated cone bevel base reloads.
Now, once they are in the can, we mark each M19A1 "thirty cal." can plainly with the contents. Here is the front of the can with the XTPs:
Here is the top of the can with the XTPs:
"CMO" of course stands for Coosa Mountain Ordnance, a shorthand way of reminding us that they are reloads. Here is the front of the can of 230 grain LRNs:
And here is the can of 225 rain LTCs:
Normally, I like to put the cans up in ComBloc pattern wooden crates for ease of moving, storing and stacking. Also, I don't really like to mix and match two types of ammo in the same crate, but since both of these were lead reloads, I made one crate out of them.
Note the cans nestle nicely in the crate. In this case it is a crate that formerly held 8mm Mauser (probably Yugoslavian).
The crate must be boldly remarked so that no one can mistake what the contents are in a hurry, at night, by the light of a flashlight. This is the crate top cover:
"CMO" again is Coosa mountain Ordnance" and BXD" indicates "boxed." Ammunition that is packed in bandoleers and stripper clips is abbreviated "B/SC." Here is a close-up of the front of the crate (it is marked identically on the back):
And, because these crates are most often stacked side view out, we mark the handles on each end:
"LD" of course is abbreviation for "Lead."
So, that is how I took my mule for a ride. Any questions?

To Kevin C.

No, sorry, I sold my .45.

Going back to test drive that mule.

Will be out of pocket until late afternoon. More later.

Too bad the Davidians aren't around to provide a counter-narrative. But I guess that was the whole point of 19 April 1993, wasn't it?

Well, now, I can put the lie to that one. As one of the chief "violent insurrectionists" in CSGV's world-view, I would like to declare before the world that I prefer the M-14 platform to any Mouse Gun.

Why Is the Navy Building a Shiny Drone Base in Sunny Malibu?

"At Naval Base Ventura County [which houses Point Mugu], there is a wealth of fitness and recreation options. Choose from aerobic classes, state-of-the-art fitness centers, or league and intramural play. Swimming lessons, aquatic activities, bowling, athletic fields and courts, youth activities or golf at the 18-hole Seabee Golf Course, are also available. Duke's Place and The Point will tempt your palate for lunch and dinner and you will enjoy pay per view events and tournaments at the Sports Bar. For an outdoor approach spend a day or two on the beach at the Point Mugu Beach Motel. If going to the city is more your idea of a great destination, visit the local discount ticket offices for money saving ideas."
From Gizmodo:
With bases like Drone Zone Malibu, the Navy will be able to remotely "fly out over the open ocean, find and track ships, targets of interest. That could be potential adversaries, terrorists, whatever the [Navy] needs [to find]." So: an omnipresent maritime eye could spot potential threats—or anything, really—over the waters, and then beam back electronic signatures and video streams to the mainland, where the next step will be made. The Triton isn't an armed drone, but if it spotted something spooky, it could call in some death from above—whether that be a warplane or just another drone.
The Navy was a little vague on what exactly these bad guys could be, since "adversaries" and "terrorists" covers about anything imaginable on a boat. Indeed, we were told that "There are times when [the Navy will] pay attention to commercial shipping" off the Californian coast, boats that don't bear any indication of belligerence at all.
The Triton has a completely panoramic view of the ocean below it from nearly 60,000 feet in the air, which means any of the jetskiing, sailing, doggy-paddling Californians below are within its range. Maybe that will be you! Maybe it will be a friend of yours, floating on her back, eyes half-closed in a greasy fog of sun lotion and melatonin, thinking of her beer and tenuous friendships on the sand. Maybe it'll just be strangers. But they'll all be under the Triton eye, ostensibly up there to Track The Enemy (China?) and Provide Intelligence (pictures of boats?) in the name of national security. Maybe it'll work. It's certainly cheaper than putting out our own boats and airplanes with people in them. When I asked where this data will end up, both Navy reps paused and said they "weren't sure" if it'd be stored permanently.

Turkish M1911A1 Clone for FOUR BILLS.

Got an email from a buddy a few minutes ago:
I got this alert from Bud's earlier today. Turkish made 1911 for $399 cash. From the Bud's website:
Tisas 1911-A1 adds a stunning value to this famous reproduction 1911 classic pistol with such high quality materials, workmanship, fit and finish is just what you want. Made in Turkey by Tisas accordingly to international standards such as ISO 9001 and NATO AQAP, also tested in every stage of production for many challenging situations this gun may face. This is the reason Tisas products are very popular worldwide by delivering reliability.
By using cold hammer forged stainless steel barrel, Military Specification black finish (parkerized), with beautiful Turkish walnut grips, hard plastic case, this makes Tisas 1911 .45 ACP a stunning deal all around . America’s new 1911 is here ….
Comes with an 8 round magazine. Looks like a great deal.

Praxis: Another idea for keeping up marksmanship skills in an ammo-short world.

Greetings Mike,
Your link to the One Box Workout was good, but there is a better way to practice in these times of ammo shortages.
Last year I purchased the handgun (in the attached pic) from Airgun Depot. It is a Winchester Model M11 1911A1 in .177 cal BB.
It has all the same controls as my Colt 1911A1 Series 70 Gold Cup, in exactly the same places. It has a reciprocating slide, the magazine release works the same, so I can practice all my drills with a fully functioning CO2 powered pistol, except for FTF/FTE and recoil control. Recoil control can be managed with just 1 or 2 full magazines. FTF/FTE drills can be practiced with snap caps.
This handgun shoots a .177cal BB at 410FPS, and 1 CO2 powerlet will shoot approximately 150 times without serious degradation of performance. The maximum shooting range is 209 yards (191 meters). It is exactly the same size as my Colt 1911A1 and weighs in just a few ozs. more than my Colt empty. The magazine holds 16 BBs, and you can get extra magazines relatively cheaply from the same source as the airgun. It is branded Winchester and made by Daisy.
And the cost?
At Winchester Model M11 1911A1 in .177cal I paid $89.99 for the Winchester 1911 (code 991011-403)
The 4000 count package of BBs cost $7.69
The Crosman CO2 25 pack powerlets cost $14.95
And I got a tube of Crosman Pellgun Oil for CO2 and Pneumatic airguns for $2.99.
Subtotal: $115.62 Plus $13.44 shipping.
Total cost: $129.06.
Really cheap for hours and hours of shooting.
It is something others might want to consider. You get range time without doing damage to your stock of ammo (or your wallet).

Obama donor in process of buying up and ‘destroying’ America’s top pro-gun media outlets.
Meet Leo Hindery, Jr.
In 2004, his name was floated as a possible successor to Terry McAuliffe as head of the Democratic National Committee.
Hindery served as Senior Economic Policy Advisor for presidential candidate John Edwards from December 2006 until February 2008. He is currently acting as an economic advisor to Barack Obama. On the withdrawal of Bill Richardson as nominee for Secretary of Commerce on January 4, 2009 it was suggested that he might be a suitable replacement.
On January 30, 2009, it was reported that Hindery's friendship and business partnership with former senator Tom Daschle might cause problems for the latter's Senate confirmation for the position of Secretary of Health and Human Services in the Obama administration. Daschle has been a consultant and advisor to Hindery's InterMedia Partners since 2005, during which time he received from Hindery access to a car and chauffeur. Daschle did not declare this service on his annual tax forms as required by law. (He reportedly paid the three years of owed taxes and interest in January 2009.) According to a Daschle spokeswoman, the former Senator "simply and probably naively considered its use a generous offer" from Hindery, "a longtime friend. On February 3, 2009 Daschle withdrew his nomination."

Missouri House Democrat implies desire to sell citizens' gun rights to feds

In other words, Colona wants to know if protecting Missourians' Constitutional rights is "worth" losing federal money--if perhaps Missouri should let the federal government buy the state's complicity in, or at least non-interference with, the violation of citizens' fundamental human rights. On top of that, take note of what he chooses for his example of what that federal bribe money could buy: efforts to "keep guns off the street," which sounds a whole lot like disarming Missourians.

Good.

Gotta go see a man about a mule.

Sorry folks but I got up late and am still working on several projects. I'll have more this afternoon when I return.

Yeah, sure, just like Fast and Furious, right?

Upstate NY Dem: 2A Advocates Are “Gun-Toting Tea Party Psychotards”

Idaho federal gun enforcement protection bill goes to committee today.

“This legislation is to protect Idaho law enforcement officers from being directed, through federal orders, laws, rules, or regulations enacted or promulgated on or after January 1, 2013, to violate their oath of office and Idaho citizens' rights under the Idaho Constitution, Article 1, Section 11,” the bill’s Statement of Purpose explains. “This Constitutional provision disallows confiscation of firearms except those actually used in commission of a felony, and disallows other restrictions on a lawful citizen's right to own firearms and ammunition.
My comment? While admirable as a token of state resistance to Federal tyranny, NO law will protect anybody from the lawless. Only the muzzles of an undetermined number of rifles can do that, wielded by good folks who know how -- and have the will -- to use them.

Holder answer on contempt charge shows disrespect for more than Congress

Since this is essentially the same position taken by Chairman Issa and the members of Congress, including 17 Democrats, who voted to hold the Attorney General in contempt, it would appear Holder’s disrespect must, as a simple matter of logical consistency, extend to the murdered agent’s parents as well, and to every American seeking the truth about Fast and Furious.
