I can foresee all kinds of badness resulting from this PC crap.

"Obama Orders Pentagon to Test Smart-Gun Tech." Not that soldier safety is a big concern of the malevolent narcissist.

The Tech Crowd are just another bunch of cultist's.

If a Smart Gun is as Smart as my "Smart Phone", yeah
NO THANKS, it'll fail when most needed.

How is it a inanimate object can be smart?
It can't.

Interesting how silicon, germanium, IC Cultists want this crap to be flesh and blood.

It is not like any soldier ever has to be able to pick up his buddies rifle and use it in dire circumstances ...

Oh! Yeah!

Drat! Doesn't work ...

This is the second coming of the great scare scam. The first was climate change which is a veil for Democrat donations from 'climate friendly' capitalists. Smart Gun companies already know the drill. Donate to Democrats and receive millions of dollars from 0bama. Meanwhile we have the histrionics to disguise the real money transfer.

The good news is the bad news. Even the 5 sided rat cage on the Potomac won't be able to make this effective. This lesson will cost the lives of some of our fellow citizens.

OTOH, if the ATF was required to test it .....

Generally speaking, negligent discharges overwhelmingly occur with issued weapons, not weapons the individual involved wasn't authorized to use. This is for two reasons, one being that the vast majority of the time soldiers are handling weapons they are authorized to use those weapons. The other being that soldiers are never more likely to treat a weapon negligently than when they are overconfident. Novices can act overconfident with any weapon, more experienced shooters only tend to be overconfident with weapons which are actually familiar to them (reinforcing the former point, novices are rarely allowed anywhere near weapons they are not authorized to use for just this reason).

Smart guns might make sense in, say, a prison, where a lot of unauthorized users are about and are deprived of any ready means of hacking a 'smart gun', and the primary use of guns would be as deterrents. For military purposes, weapons failing to fire is a bigger problem than unauthorized use, and always will be.

A system that inhibited negligent discharge (like these new "smart scopes" with ballistic computers in them) by improving the ability to put rounds on target is of interest to the military. A system that inhibits unauthorized use beyond kicking out morons isn't.

Guess they'd be terrified to find out I rely on 105 yo technology, but as long as my 1911 goes bang everytime I pull the trigger I'll just have to live with it!

Just more madness in the ongoing campaign to drive responsible, effective troops out of the service, making way for more of Dear Leader's misguided LGBT factions and others who join the military not to defend the nation, but to assist inengineering the military's Utopian transformation.

The perfumed princes ensconced in the pentagon are not concerned with this.
Sure, they'll get some working committee looking at PowerPoint projections, have Natick Laboratory begin experiments, and on and on, just like any other "new idea".

The 'tests' will continue for years and multibux will be spent, but none of this will even get off the ground before Obummer is no longer the pResident.

And just like so many other things the 'good idea fairy' (who probably happens to look just like Obummer's caricatures) comes up with, will be swept aside when something new comes along.
