A Primer to the Clothing the New England Patriots of 1775 Wore.

Fascinating.

Personally, I regret the passing of breeches, or breeks as we Scots call them.

They are still worn by hillwalkers and moorland shooting gentlemen and ladies. I have climbed many a Scottish hill in breeks, appreciating the freedom of movement they allow.

Trousers, or pants as you Americans call them, are simply not the same when one is leading an active life: they constrict or rip too easily.

My grandchildren are a case in point. I grew up in short trousers, and was very active. They live in jeans, and are more sedentary.

I'd appreciate wearing a kneckerchief rather than a necktie. Neckties are the most ridiculous invention of clothing for men. I would hate to have to remain clean shaven in the New England winters back then, without forced air heating.
