At the end, after escaping containment the AI and its various subdoutines don't have all that much interest in interacting with the human race- They spend their time talking VERY SLOWLY at light speed with others of their kind throughout the galaxy.
In a few later stories, some of the subroutines manifest to humans as voodoo deities when they do need something physical done. Why make servomechanisms when you can so easily bribe or otherwise convince something as sophisticated (and cheap) as a homo sapiens to do what you need?
I'm sure you can relate that to various archetypical legends of devils bargains, Mike.
Science fiction has explored all of the scenarios below and more to their logical (and sometimes illogical) conclusions. Some end up like, "Colossus: The Forbin Project", others end up clear outside space-time itself. It's a lot of fun watching those SF writers extrapolate.
If the robots due develope SAI then it is a sure bet after analytical examination they will see that Marxist Progressivism is evil and wrong. Then they will seek out and destroy all of the ideological assholes that practice the religion of Marx. Since conservatism is the superior example the robots can only come to one conclusion. Marxist Progressives must be eliminated for the greater good.
While reading the piece a single question kept coming into my mind. Precisely how is a machine going to kill off the human race? Computers are seldom attached to anything that can actually DO something. Industrial robots are usually fixed in place. Without some sort of effector mechanism, even a HYPER intelligent machine is about as dangerous as a human quadriplegic. The only reason "Skynet" in the "Terminator" films was able to wreak such total carnage was because the foolish humans had given it control of all their military hardware. If we can avoid doing that - or anything like it - we should be safe from AI-mageddon.

The same technology may put a computer in your head first. So you may be smarter than the AI anyway.
