Bringing light to the poor, one liter at a time

A bottled liter of water with a few teaspoons of bleach is proving to be a successful recipe for dwellers in the light-deprived slums of the Philippines. The simple technology is spreading sunlight in places where it has never been, and saving residents money at the same time.

A good place to get medical supplies is Chinook Medical: http://www.chinookmed.com/cgi-bin/category/s-bandages_dressings

Their Tactical Operator Kit is a good start. I added a Decompression Needle, 14 ga x 3.25", a pair of EMT Shears, a pair of latex gloves, and package of quick clot to it.

If you don't want their pouch, which is a little spendy, all that will fit in a 100 round SAW pouch, or MOLLE general purpose pouch like this: http://www.unclesamsretailoutlet.com/Safariland-Large-General-Purpose-Pouch.html

Remember, if you have a health savings account you can use that to buy medical supplies, so at the end of our fiscal year I spend whatever I have left in that (since it goes away) at Chinook.

Race riot & beatings at the Wisconsin State Fair last night. Wilding feral thugs rush through crowds, and stopped traffic and pull white people from cars, off motorcycles and beat them.

Would one man - just one man - armed with confidence and a carbine been able to stop the whole damnable riot?

"Would one man - just one man - armed with confidence and a carbine been able to stop the whole damnable riot?" I presume that you are talking about a fair attendee with a carbine, not a police officer, who may have a high capacity semiautomatic pistol with several spare magazines.

Think about it. If you give the police the choice of handling a mob of "wilding feral thugs" or a single man with a gun in his hand at the Wisconsin State Fair, what choice do you think they will make? Make that gun a carbine and it is escalate to "patrol rifle" response. The cops face real possibility of injury dealing with a mob that greatly outnumbers them and they have difficulty justifying shooting any of them unless they use a weapon in their beatings. I can visualize the headlines screaming "Racist Police Brutality". The police would prefer to see "Police Shoot Man with Gun at State Fair".

Besides, if the police officer had a long arm when confronted with a rioting mob, he may prefer a 12 gauge shotgun loaded with buckshot over a carbine. You do not need to aim at individuals so much as point at groups.

THANK YOU for that idea. I will probably have quite a bit left over this year due to undue pessimism and I would love to utilize it that way rather than letting it disappear into somebody else's pocket.
