How odd. And it seems to confirm to me that I can connect dots sometimes. I linked a couple Youtube videos of these machines in the last month, andthis one this morning before Mike even posted the link. However, in regards to the site that is linked to, whoever wrote.."Presented without comment."..well that's because they haven't got a clue to the absurdity of this video. My comment at Youtube, (at least as a 40 year musician).. and regardless of the technical accomplishment of this effort..WHY in the fuck would anybody spend the time programing robots to play instruments in this way, when MIDI/computers have been used by pro musicians for over 30 years to do the same damn thing, only with precision and musical language to create something HUMAN BEINGS interpret as "art". What this video does illustrates though...whoever is programming these machines is totally clueless to contemporary technology used to create music, but like the Federal gov, highly adept at spending money and time on things that are spectacularly stupid, in as much as it relates to the task these drones are performing, and have something in common with Fast and Furious. They both share the bond of absurdity on one hand, and a hidden agenda on the other. As the comment section on Youtube illustrates, most viewers are content that the purpose of the petty exercise was innocuous, and while the end result was less than perfect, non confrontational in design. I see it another way. Taken in context with the other drone videos, this particular exercise illustrates an advanced capability whereby each drone performs a small task in sequence, in real time, in another point in space, within the context of a much larger plan. Much like Fast and Furious. Each participating member, need not know the other members tasks, or overall plan in order for the cumulative effect to occur. Now imagine this on a much larger scale. Pretty scary, and again, much like F&F. Who needs the ATF now to arm the Cartels..just send low flying drones loaded with weapon parts etc, right over the border, from different points, time etc. Amongst other things. Who would know?

Anon doesn't get it. The point here isn't the music, it's the ability to program the drones. Or maybe he does get it, since he talks about the time and skill needed to do that programming, and how it's so much more than programming a MIDI device.

John Robb has been posting about drones for a while, so there wasn't much point in him saying much about the video. It didn't really add much to what he's been saying, but he thought it interesting enough to post.

Mr Anonymous #1 misses the point. I am both a musician and a robotics engineer. Yes, the musical achievement is feeble. But this video demonstrates mastery of some very significant control system challenges. The point here is to control a coordinated swarm of flying holonomic robots to accomplish a cooperative task. That is significant and important. Any militia that is ignoring the implications and the potential is living in the past. How will your militia deploy drones? How will you counteract drones? No plans to with respect to drones, you say? Then you need to turn on your brain. Drones are as significant as the first canon.
