It is with great personal sadness that I must report that Kathryn Tucker Windham passed away Sunday at the age of 93. She was a great Southern lady and an Alabama treasure. My son Matthew will no doubt recall vividly our visit to Kathryn's home in Selma back in the 90s and his own encounter with the ghost Jeffrey. No one could tell a ghost story like Kathryn.

What a grand lady. I could listen to her for hours. My condolences Mike.

What an adorable lady. I could listen to her talk all day.
The first time I ever drove to Florida from here in West Kentucky, we spent a few nights in Birmingham visiting the EWTN studios. Other than that we stopped for fuel a few times on our way south.
I was so struck at the southern drawl and how different it was than the "twang" we have here in Kentucky. Of course, I had heard it in places, Shelby Foote's civil war narratives come to mind, but never so up-close and personal as during that trip (and subsequent ones). That dialect is a treasure of the English language.
Times like this I miss Alabama and her people greatly. Such is life.
This was a Grand lady, my wife had her speak at the Enterprise Library when she was the director there and we heard her speak at the Alabama Book Fair in Montgomery. She could tell a yarn, she will be missed and spoke of in high regard. I have her books and will always treasure those.

What a warm, wonderful lady she was. She was an alumna of my alma mater (Huntingdon College in Montgomery) and I was blessed to have heard her speak and meet her a couple of times. I count myself blessed to have encountered such a great storyteller. BTW, she was a journalist too....back when they actually reported.
Thank you and God bless, Miss Kathryn!

One thing is for sure Mike, she now knows what is on the other side. Yes she will be missed I am sure by all of us who do not know.
