Naked force is all that a lot of cops have going for them. Playing well with armed non-aggressive equals is obviously not something taught at the Academy.
The police are not making friends with people who could save them from the really-bad-guys, and that's stupid policy.
Hooray for small recorders. Juries need to hear this stuff unedited. Crazed cop in the wrong tossing f-bombs vs. rational honorable citizen just trying to go about his business. How about that job and pension?
What if the citizen was deaf? Would the cop have shot him in the back or tackled him? A lotta baby boomers are at least a little deaf from Who concerts/Walkman/iPod/industrial noise, or are wearing -30dB earplugs when near traffic to save what hearing they have left.
Ok, you have some chap walking down the street, with a holstered weapon IN PLAIN SIGHT. Why is the first reaction of the LEO that said person is in the wrong?? I would bet that most, if not all criminals are carrying "concealed".Only someone sure of their position would openly carry, especially in Philly, now run by the ex DC Chief, who was sent packing over the millions he cost DC due to his un-Constitutional interpretation of the law.
The title of the piece is a misnomer, Mike. Those were not the actions of cops. Cops enforce the law. No, those were the actions of PIGS. Pigs consider themselves TO BE the law.
I do not believe that all law enforcement officers are "merely another gang operating under color of law". Many, doubtless. Most, perhaps. But not all. I know a few LEOs who are cops and not pigs. Damned few but a few.
Not too long ago a uniformed NYPD officer, responding to an undercover officer's request for backup, arrived at the scene, saw an African-American male running down the street with a drawn handgun, and promptly shot him dead.
Well..... It turned out that the man he shot was the undercover officer he was there to assist.
NYPD responded by requiring all their folks to undergo "sensitivity training".
I'm thinking the guy in the Philly story should be happy that Philly cops are more sensitive than the NYPD.
Many cops have a mindset that breaks society down into three classes: cops, perps and victims. This shapes their behavior in a way that causes more and more of us to see only two classes: perps and us. When that happens, the cops lose.
Disciple of Night, they've already pushed further, harder and more often than King George III. If the courage of our founders had survived, we would have already done something.
If you follow this topic over at thefiringline.com, a site full of badge lickers, you will see that an awful lot of folks there think the guy should have just obeyed his master....er the cop, even though the cop was wrong and did not know the law.
Make their boss very unhappy that they did this and I guarantee you it will never happen again. Next, everybody who can carry should go to that same location and walk it day and night while openly carrying their weapon. Do it for weeks. They'll get the message.
Has this type of crap been as commonplace all along and I'm just paying attention lately or is it getting worse? This "stuff" is really pissing me off. These arrogant jerks think they are the masters and we are the sheep don't they? Well, the abuses heaped upon our forefathers went on for decades before they finally said "enough". I wonder how far along that process we have come.....
We have more to fear from the police then from everyday criminals. All day, every day all police trample the Constitution & Bill of Rights. Be they local, state or federal they are all gestapo thug pigs.

The recording will be ruled 'inadmissable' at trial.
He's toast.

For John in MI:
Some of us are further along than others...
