Looters Plague Tornado-Torn South

"It happened at 8:45 at night, and by 10 there were looters."

Got militia?

It seems that going armed is the way to go, but, will "they" confiscate personal weapons like after Katrina? I say shoot first, then ask questions when ya got the time after securing your home...

Nothin' a few .223 cocktails won't take care of.

The SSS could apply here.

Got militia, my ass! Got guns and ammo? First thing on MY property would have been a big spray-painted sign saying, "Looters will be shot!" I don't care about Louisiana - in Florida, I can use deadly force to protect my home and property.

Wasn't mush more than 6 years ago when 3 hurricanes came through this area, only a few weeks apart. The area is still recovering, but no one messed much with personal property...there were too many armed citizens around.

TPaine: Agreed, the only thing I remember hearing about was during Charlie when a couple of lowlifes were arrested looting the sacristy at a church on US1, down the road from my folks' place where we holed up. My favorite sign was on a boarded up window at a house down by the river: "2 armed veterans, 3 dogs....your call".

Shoot one & leave "it" in the front yard as an example to others. No sign needed, the body sez it all.

After Andrew did a number on Homestead, FL, the 82nd Airborne was deployed there to try and settle things down a bit. One of my co-workers asked a 'trooper what the neighborhood should do about looters. The reply was "Do whatever you gotta do, Ma'am. We brought plenty of body bags."

I live somewhat north of there, not really in what came to be called "the dead zone", but for six weeks after the storm hit we never saw a cop. They were all down south trying to hold the lid on. South Florida became a magnet for some pretty rough looking folks that came "to help with the cleanup". I did my yard cleanup work with a slung M1A in plain view. Many of the people cruising the neighborhood "offering to help" took one look at me and kept on cruising.

On a side note, it isn't price gouging when the supply fell through the floor and demand skyrocketed. It's the free market.
