Intended Consequences.

Whaddaya know? Pass a law and make noises like you're going to enforce it and lawbreakers get out of the way. There is little in the Arizona law that isn't already on the federal books, but the feddies, as have we have all known for several administrations of both parties, never intended to enforce it. Arizona now does, and folks are opting to go home to where they came from, or to someplace else where the law isn't being enforced (New Mexico is popular, with its Dem governor).

You know, if we put big-time employers of illegals in federal prison with hefty sentences and well-publicized perp-walks (a tactic which I prefer), there would be no possibility of using amnesty to steal elections. The illegals, finding no jobs from the white-bread exploiters, would self-deport. Then we might be able to come up with a guest worker program that doesn't involve growing collectivist political power and enhancing the welfare state.

Do we trust Roto-Reuters? Is this a poor-criminals story about a very few soft-core violators bugging out, published to garner sympathy for the "oppressed" illegals and call for a "humanitarian" outcry to stop the outmigration, if any?
*I* have to affirm that I can legally work in the U.S. when I apply for a job. Sometimes I even have to submit to a credit check. How is it that illegals get hired at all? Oh, once you've broken one federal law, fake ID is no-stress.

I guess the rule of law only applies when the government finds it convenient. Rather than enforce the law obama attacks those who would enforce it on their terms, i.e., Arizona.

obama (and Bush I & II and Clinton) has refused to secure our sovereign border, enforce our laws. So much for obama taking the oath to support and defend the Constitution. Then again, he doesn't meet Constitutional requirements to be POTUS.

Sounds good to me....

I was angry the first time I heard a liberal vote fisher say that self-deportation was impossible. Then I laughed. Then I laughed again when I read the fist new report of it actually happening.

Clear a path and give them supplies as they march south.

I think they got Themselves Cornered and nobody else did it to them.

Should be interesting to see how New Mexico handles the influx of tens of thousands of new residents taking their jobs, filling up their classrooms, lining up outside their emergency rooms, etc.

Will the jobs left behind be filled by citizens thus causing AZ's unemployment rate to drop? Will their $1 billion deficit drop now that fewer illegals are suckling at the government teat? Yes, the news reports coming out of AZ should be pretty interesting over the next few months.

I've said this all along - the illegals wouldn't be coming here in huge numbers unless Americans were hiring them!

Strike at the root, not at the leaves of the problem - arrest and jail the employers that hire illegals for cheap.

These employers hire illegals that then get poor wages, no benefits, and take away jobs from Americans.

Worse, these companies are out-competing other companies that hire Americans because they get workers so cheap.

Imagine the USA splits in half. One half has tight controls on what employers can do, just as you want. In the other half, employers do anything they can get workers to agree to. Which half would you rather live in? This experiment has already been done with East/West Germany and North/South Korea, and the results in the centrally planned workers' paradises were so awful the dictators put fences on the border to keep the victims in.

Bullshit. No one is keeping anyone IN, and abiding by immigration laws is not an attack on capitalism or an invitation to state planning. What is a threat to both liberty and property is the importation of registered voters to extend and make permanent the tyrannical socialist welfare state. If attempting to "export democracy" is a failure, do you think you get a different result by importing the population of the failed world within our borders?

My beef is not with immigrants, but rather with naked attempts to impose tyranny by importing the pawns to do so.

I don't doubt that they now see it as importing future voters/slaves but our government has looked the other way for several years all the while we were being invaded. Yes, American companies took advantage of cheap labor. Since our government allowed the invasion, I can't fault the companies. Companies are amoral; their objective is to make money. The less they pay out in labor, the more they make. Do any of you who still have a job think that if your company could pay you less, it wouldn't? Blaming employers for using cheap labor is like blaming a wooden house for burning so readily.

Now that this issue is at the forefront, more Americans are watching and taking notes. If this invasion isn't stopped, the blame and retribution will be placed squarely where it belongs.

I like the idea of training and arming a division or two of them and sending back to Mexico to clean that country up and make it a decent place to live. Yeah, I know that's not practical, and the problems are so complex and so pervasive that it's impossible, but still.. The ONLY reason we have this problem in the first place is because Mexico is such a hellhole. And there is no reason it should be other than corrupt and incompetant leadership.... Of course the same could be said for most of the world I suppose.

They will not 'go home'. They will simply relocate to 'sanctuary' states or cities. My home state of MD hands out licenses like they're free and refuses to enforce the law. I imagine we'll get our fair share of Arizona's expats.
