Does anyone have the guts to describe the racial/ethnic make-up of these assailants? I saw this happen years ago when I was a LEO in SoCal. There was an incident during the RODNEY KING free-for-all where a Fire Captain took a round in the jaw from an AK(outlawed in Kalifornia!). Rahm and his toadies will always be protected from the predations of the fuzzy-wuzzies. The at-risk employees will eventually vote with their feet.
At one of my high school reunions (I graduated in 1967) one of my classmates (a Metro Dade County Deputy Sheriff) described how the residents of the Scott housing project would take potshots at ambulances. He said it escalated to the point where paramedics would not respond to calls in that (and similar) neighborhoods without police escort. Then they began to notice that bogus 911 calls were being made for the sole purpose of bringing police into the projects. On one escort run he found himself in an "L - Ambush" and came to realize what he was seeing was veterans in the projects using what they had learned in Vietnam to attack veterans in the police force.

Note for those Chicago paramedics: Move SOUTH. The climate is a lot nicer than those nasty Chicago winters and the people are a lot more friendly.
