"But the numbers of background checks have since tapered off in Alabama, and across most of the South, as many buyers report difficulty in finding certain items on store shelves."
Certain items. Heh! Like guns, ammunition, magazines, bullets, primers, powder, reloading tools.....
$35.00 RCBS 9mm die sets are now backordered everywhere and going for $110+ on ebay.
Damn but Obama, Feinstein, Schumer and Bloomberg can sell stuff!
My feeling is that they're all in the wrong line of work.
Same thing at the Gun show at Cahaba in Huntsville this weekend. Line to get in half way across the parking lot. Lots of high end guns, some ammo, but all at premium prices. One vendor had several 8# jugs of powder. I asked the price for one of W844 and was told $250. That's pulled military powder that when they have it I can buy for $80 from my favorite internet vendor. A buddy scored two boxes of .357 Maximum at $40 per box of twenty. Odd cartridge, same as 38/357 only much longer, and difficult to come by. Still winced at $2 each, but a gun without ammo is only a passable paperweight.

Lots more brass pickers at the range today and they were much more adamant about picking up ONLY the caliber and amount you shot.
I was able to recover every round of .45 Auto I fired today. Well, an equal number anyway. Not all of them were originally mine.
