Kurt Hofmann: Feinstein's 'assault weapon' ban probably not gun grabbers' main effort

Feinstein's attempt to ban so-called "assault weapons" seems highly unlikely to pass, but that does not mean that the bill will fail to advance the forcible citizen disarmament lobby's agenda. If we the people allow our public servants to hide behind any ambiguity over our demand that shall not be infringed be treated as meaning what it says, we have no one to blame but ourselves.

While Kurt's assessment may be dead on; there is another possible scenario. The Democrats have been frustrated since 1994 on gun ban issues. Now, using the school shooting as a catalyst, they feel unleashed and want to go whole hog on the issue. They want to finish the issue, once and for all. I have to believe, given the lefties twisted way of thinking, that they are tired of incrementalism. Given the fact that there were early Republican defectors, it fueled the flames of the madness. Anyway, that's how I see them confronting the issue.

When are we going to learn that compromise never works with progressives. Unless we draw that proverbial "line in the sand" and do not back off, they win the day with their incrementalist approach. The Republican "leadership" is still figuring this out in spite of repeatedly getting their butts kicked by the progressives. No Compromise! MOLON LABE!

These "opening salvos" in this looming fight are merely ranging shots intended to gauge the depth/commitment of the opposition and the Congressional pulse. IMO, at this juncture, its in our (pro-gun) favor to "chase salvos" and bombard our elected representatives at the local, state and federal levels with letters POLITELY reminding them of the constitutional laws they swore to uphold.

We also need to bombard our local print media with, (again POLITE) factually accurate data on mass shootings and misuse of firearms BY CRIMINALS. The public, et al, isn't getting anything but hoplophobic propaganda from the MSM and the print media, (as witness how Mr. Zimmerman was treated in the popular press). We need to change the tenor of the confrontation by offering facts and documentation.

IOW, pro-gun adherents need to "Alinsky" the hoplophobes. That is to fix them, target their statements, and destroy their arguments with facts, logic and emotional appeal to fairness and honesty. >Jeff

I like the politician from Vermont who recently proposed legislation making gun ownership mandatory. You can 'Opt Out' but would have to register with the state and pay a yearly tax due to the burden you present to society by refusing to bear the burden of defending yourself and requiring police to do it for you.
Make it a class in school, shooting 101. Bring back the rifle team. Varsity Skeet Team. Even using airsoft during PE. The kids would love it, except the pussies and liberals. Just give them a big fat F for being frigging pussies.

I'm perfectly willing to compromise. I want the repeal of the Lautenberg amendment, the Gun Control Act of 1968 and the National Firearms Act of 1934 and the dismantling of all mechanisms that were used to enforce them. They want, well we all know what they want. So I will, for the time being, accept the compromise of the status quo. Grudgingly, and not forever.
